Watching Minne vs ATL. One thing I hate about the challenge rule, a guy is clearly fouled by his opponent trying to strip him of the ball, but the call still gets over turned to OOB from the player who had the ball

And of *en course atlanta are gonna blow it

get ****ed

Not even trying to win it. 5 scrubs I’ve never even heard of playing the last Q lol 😂 3rd seed is better for us anyway. The only matchups I don’t like are Minnesota and Phoenix but wouldn’t want vs LeBron/AD & Warriors either

Why Denver, why?

Have said all along the one matchup I don't want in the first round is the Nuggets, and right now we've both contrived to make it happen. Ugh.

On the other hand, we play so much better on the road than at home it's not even funny, so viva la altitude.

Some big games in WC on Monday.

Minny (56-25) vs PHX (48-33)

OKC (56-25) vs Dallas

Denver (56-25) @ Memphis

NO (49-32) vs LAL (46-35)

GSW (45-36) vs Utah

Sac (45-36) vs PDX

As far as I can see, both the Dubs and Kings have tie breakers over the Lakers, but they went 2-2 vs each other, so dunno who has the tie-breaker there. And the Suns have the tie-breaker over us.

In amongst all the other permutations, we have to beat the Lakers to guarantee avoiding the play-ins, but the Lakers have to beat us or else they're almost guaranteed to fall into the bottom half of the play-ins. Terrific! I'm looking forward to a competitive and above all EVENLY OFFICIATED game... maybe.

Kings have tie breaker over Warriors with better division record

Cheers. In which case, we could do them a solid.

Given they swept the Lakers this year, maybe they should tank their cupcake game.

And on that topic, the Mavs did that today, only for the Clips to lose at home to the Jazz. Whoops.

The tie breakers are a mess for the top 3 seeds in West
In East if Cavs, Knicks and Bucks all finish on 49 wins, the cavs get 2nd seed as division winner even though Knicks beat them 3 times
if Miami, Orlando, Philly and Pacers all end on 46 wins the Heat get 5th seed as division winner

Yeah it's incredibly convoluted.

I can't remember if IST results have any bearing either. I can foresee a potential problem down the road though, because the draws for the pools for the IST are random. It results in some teams having far easier pools than others, eg the Lakers had a pretty easy pool this season. In this year's case, the Lakers technically play 42 home games this season, even though the 42nd was in Vegas. Their 41st home game was the IST semi-final, due to seeding from the IST, which is impacted by the random pool draws.

On the other hand, technically we played 42 away games, with that 42nd being in Vegas, and the 41st being the IST semi final in Sacramento, again due to seeding. It's not really a problem, since we suck at home anyway. But our pool for the IST was Rockets, Mavs, Nugs & Clips. The Lakers had to play the Suns, Griz, Blazers and Jazz. Much easier to 'earn' a 41st home game - the IST semi final - with a draw like that, never mind the prestige or lack thereof of the IST itself.

As it is, us travelling to Vegas for the final probably isn't that taxing. But next year, if say Phoenix reach the IST final against Orlando or New York, even though Vegas is a 'neutral' venue, it's still a hell of a trip if you're the Knicks or Magic, while for the Suns, or LA, or the Jazz, it's right next door. And that presupposes too that both finalists played a home semi final. If Phoenix had a home semi, that's 41 home games, 40 away and one 'neutral' one next door. Orlando could conceivably play 40 home games, 41 away including an IST semi on the road, and then a 'neutral' 82nd game in Vegas, which is on the other side of the country.

TL;DR - if you're a Western Conference team located near Nevada, there is a big incentive to do well in the IST, because if you do it right, you potentially drop a lengthy travel away game from your schedule, even if you lose the IST final. But if you reach the final as an East Coast team, and play an away semi-final, you legitimately play 42 road games and 40 home games for the season.

I was thinking about the IST potential impact today actually. The IST almost would have cost the bucks a seeding spot as they played and lost to the pacers. If they hadn't dropped a game to chicago in December, the IST would have potentially cost them division winner by playing and losing extra division game in the tournament. Their division record would have been 11-6 vs cavs 11-5 and they would have finished above cavs on conference record if division record was tied. Though its a made up scenario that almost happened, It shows the potential impact and whether the NBA thought through it properly. It is a decent chance to cost a team in future

Yeah i think they're playing with fire a bit. I cannot think of another knockout tournament in sport that isn't a stand alone event, but rather actually contributes as a subsidiary to the main event, or main league. It's only the IST final itself that doesn't count.

Maybe they should just make the pools the six divisions or something, so everyone knows where they stand before it starts. Does leave the problem of squeezing 6 into 4 for the semi-finals, but meh. I'd rather the whole thing just died a quick death personally. It's never going to become the equivalent of the FA Cup, no matter how much they hype it up.

Lakers have copped a rough whistle all season. They deserve a fair/favourable run for onfe.

Managed to squeak past the Griz today. 14-6 free throw count in the last quarter, multiple Griz offensive fouls, a successful Lakers challenge, an unsuccessful Memphis challenge, and a tech called on Taylor Jenkins.

Probably wouldn't crack their top 20 controversial wins of the season.

Actually, scratch all that. I completely forgot the IST final was LAL vs Indy.

So that's the trade off, an 83rd game that doesn't count towards the record. Damn that stupid tournament.

I still think the winner of the IST should get a bunch of random stuff. e.g. win every tie-break, move up two spots in the lottery, one night with a Kardashian of their choice etc
