Thought I better make a new thread, rather than continuing in the off-season thread.

Round 1 Results

New Zealand 95 - 75 Cairns

Gold Coast 79 - 82 Townsville

Wollongong 94 - 92 Perth

Cairns 86 - 75 Adelaide

Ladder after R1

2. Townsville Crocodiles 1-0
3. Wollongong Hawks 1-0

6. Gold Coast Blaze 0-1
7. Adelaide 36ers 0-1
8. Melbourne Tigers 0-0

2 games on Foxtel this week.

Title favourites New Zealand take on the Melbourne Tigers on Wednesday night, while on Friday Night - Perth kick off their 'sunshine swing' when they travel to Townsville to take on my mighty Crocodiles.

This weeks games

30/09 Melbourne vs. New Zealand - FS

02/10 Gold Coast vs. Wollongong

02/10 Townsville vs. Perth - FS

03/10 Cairns vs. Perth

03/10 Adelaide vs. New Zealand

It is beyond me why they would open the season with New Zealand and Cairns in New Zealand. Yeah, that’s really going to get the basketball juices flowing.

They should have held off until this weekend and started with Melbourne Vs Perth or Adelaide in Melbourne and really pumped the season up.

Yeah, bloody bizarre.

The two televised games this week would've been the perfect television start.

Perth looking for redemption after we stole the elimination final from their grasp last year (and Townsville home games are always great viewing in terms of high scoring) - and Melbourne and NZ - probably the two best teams (fully fit that is) in the league.

They never opened a season with a blockbuster, all the Dragons v Tigers games they had at their disposal, no Sydney v Melbourne/Dragons, nuh uh. Its like they don't see it as a big event to open a season, like its just another game

*end rant*

Dim wit Dimitrou may be a lot of things but he does have the AFL in a strong position right now. IMO the NBL should basically copy there system down to a team in regards to block buster games.

When the NBL first moved to summer they tried to do the open air game (Sixers vs. Magic), if they found a way of utilising this idea with the teams at their disposal, it would be a killer idea now.

SA vs. Victoria (Sixers vs. Tigers) on Boxing Day or NYE either at the Dome or the State Netball centre or even as a one off at the Vodafone arena would get people in.

The NBL need to promote these blockbuster games, same as the AFL does with ANZAC Day or holiday games. Boxing Days or New Years Eve, head to the game before hitting the turps.

So what are people's predictions for tonight?

As much as I'd like to see Melbourne open with a win, I can't see us beating the Breakers. I admit I haven't followed the domestic sport too closely throughout the off-season so got the shock of my life when I recently looked at our roster and saw how much it had been decimated.

Breakers by double digits.

My prediction is me punching Lemanis in the face, for dragging Rickert off when he was dominating the scoring, and ****ing up my multi the stupid ****.

think the wildcats can do the deal against townsville. Didnt realise Townsville sacked John Rillie end of last season. Had a great game in the playoffs last season sinking 10 3 pointer bombs.

Corey 'Homicide' Williams the danger man for the crocs.

I think perth should win here odds of $3.20 will be on that :thumbsu:

What did you think about Brian Taylor. He was really, really got I thought, yet still am not a fan of Andrew Gaze. IMO, he just isnt a commentator, rather a fan. Will be Interesting to see how Dwayne Russell goes, that will be very interesting. Great to see the league up and running, and we should be on here promoting the league as much as possible. Thought nearly 3,000 at the cage was a great crowd, considering the time of the year. and Im sure we will get another big crowd @ Townsville.

Rillie was rubbish for most of last year - and was rightfully given the arse.

Don't waste your money on Perth to win in the 'Ville. They're no chance.

Brian didn't really do it for me, his lack of knowledge of the game really stood out and he didn't seem to have much confidence in his own analysis by constantly seeking Gaze' approval after comments.

Yeah, hopefully he grows in confidence, but asking the silly questions, might make certain aspects easy for the new comers that we are trying to attract to the sport. They can be educated as we go along. At least I hope, atleast we are getting a more professional product, with names that the wider public understand.

Can you give me a few reasons why you think Perth cant win tonight?

Im just looking through the teams and I think perth squad has improved a heap from last year, signing on Luke Schenser (however you spell that), was Adelaide's best player last season and signing of Cattalini from Cairns.

Heard a bit of BT during the game. Did anyone hear how he said something like 'Goes upstairs with the left foot oh i mean hand'. What happened to Carfino, i miss him already and John Casey.

Well that sucked.

Not really that concerning, but it's very unlike us to drop games to what was inferior opposition like that.

Should've won it by 15+ really. Took the foot off the gas and paid the price. Disappointing, but we've got a super-talentented roster - and when that clicks we'll be around the mark.

Oh, and Cedar should dominate this season with a little help. Get him open and he's money.

How he didn't make that intial huge Boomers squad was a disgrace.

What a great game tonight. Awesome finish. Thought DR, was better than I expected me just seemed to commmentate a little bit too much, like it was footy, sort of play by play but not bad for a debut.

Saw the Blaze won tonight, but they said that there was less than 2,000 people there which is a worry.

FANTASTIC NEWS!

Adelaide vs New Zealand: Maher Jersey Retired!

Something fans have been asking for for ages has finally been delivered. For just $5 per game you can watch the 36ers home games online on the 36ers website. Absolutely fantastic work by the club and should also generate some extra money for the club.

That's a great idea. Bit of a shame it's taken so long to come up with it.

I'd love the Crocs to do something similar, given I only get to see them twice a year.
