Mark Browning,,,, Blackdog, ur joking. Its got to be named in honor of a player that has achieved many accolades in his career in QLD footy, firstly as a player in QLD comps and any involvement after retirement, Imo.
For example, the Micheal Voss medal.or the Jason Dunstall medal, or even the John Blair medal.( how much has Blairy done over the past 20 years as a player, coach etc.)

Wouldn't it have to be someone who has contributed significantly in both QLD and NSW/Canberra - not just QLD? Hasn't Cam Illet won a league medal in both state leagues over the journey?

With the changing of league awards and the Grogan going down to third tier football, does it lose significance as it is no longer awarded to the best player in QLD for the year?

And herein lies the problem. I don't know Blair but from reading this forum he sounds like a great coach, and Dunstall and Voss are legends of the game but none of them have had anything to do with footy in Sydney or Canberra so aren't suitable for a NEAFL award to be named after them. I don't know anyone who has crossed over QAFL, Sydney and Canberra leagues (and not to forget NT), hence why I think we'll either end up with a bland Americanism of an MVP Award or something non-footy that recognises courage, dedication, fair play etc. IMO the defence force equates well. If not the 'Aussie Diggers Award' then maybe the 'Soldier On Award' (recognising the charity that currently supports returned serviceman and women going through tough times).

Going in another direction maybe the 'Beyond Blue Award' for the great work they do with some or our nation's vulnerable and struggling men facing their own battles.

Good conversation so far. Keep the suggestions coming (not that I think we can influence the outcome!)

Warrick Capper medal!

More realistically, Craig Bolton played for Brisbane and Sydney and is from Canberra. Might be about the only guy who connects all three places at once.

And he is a good bloke, not likely to tarnish the medal with poor behavior (unlike Warwick....haha).

You could also do a dual name (similar to the Merrett-Murray at the lions).

I think the Mulrooney-Grogan or Grogan-Mulrooney would be the way to go. Don't name it after someone who doesn't necessarily deserve it just because we can't find someone better.

It was a good hit out between Belconnen and Hills Eagles on Saturday. Very even first half. Second half the bigger more mature bodies of the Hills Eagles players handled the heavy, wet conditions better, running away with it. I'm not sure how strong the Eagles side was on the day. Belco have about 14 to come back in to the starting line up with 6 players in the rep game vs GWS and another 6-8 to come back from injury/rest. It was a good opportunity for a few of the younger blokes in the club to have a run against what appears to be a fit and strong Hills unit.

I didn't get to the game Norwest but I believe Hills had approx. 10-12 not playing also. A few pulled out due to the late change to the game venue.

Does anyone know what the result was with GWS & ACT U23?

Impressive players for both teams nor west?

Good to see Redlands have updated there website with there squad of 35. Aspley and Sharks haven't updated yet.

Suns fielded up to 9 Labrador youngsters in the game v Aspley.

Interesting to note is Lions v Aspley is a curtainraiser to a women's match on the weekend up at Burpengary. And on the number 2 Oval!

Who would be surprised? Women and umpires are the only ones who receive regular stories on AFLQ site. For some reason they seem to think women's footy is going to break open new markets or something. I'm all for them playing, but surely there comes a time where the absolute minority that they are in must be recognised when decisions like this are made.

Prelim final day in Sydney local footy a couple of years ago.....women's GF was the curtainraiser and the crowd was monstrous, noisy, scarey even for us blokes.
Women finished, men came out to play and the crowd dispersed so men's game was played with bugger all atmosphere.

Bloody Sydney...:rainbow:

Surprising to an Easterner that the NEAFL is charging $15 admission for a NEAFL practice match...in Sydney, we don't even charge admission for a home-and-away match in the proper season.
Even with the gates thrown open, we only get 150 or so.
