NEAFL- 2014

3 or 4 years ago he was proberly 15 kg heavier,,,, has trimmed down a lot, and hes not flabby, he just doesnt have that good physical body shape, but he is as strong as an ox and is incredibly agile for his size, and a very good kick, both long and short.

No he is flabby. Yes he is short thru the trunk but he has multiple rolls of fat through the mid section.

This does sound harsh, but he has the size to be useful up a level or 2. Not many big guys can really play. Even at AFL there are guys that are barely useful as footballers outside the centre bounce.

Well they need to buy him a bike. I know running can be tough for guys of that size, so a bike. Spin/RPM classes, swimming, something.

He stood out like a sore thumb. Doesn't cover the ground well at all. Yes he is big and he got a goal from that but he needs to be able to get around. 20 - 25 kgs i suspect.
Yeah that Shane Mumford's a dud too.. Big John Nichols was pretty big too.... Don't subscribe to the too big, too fat, too short, theory. Brewer has been a bloody handful for other NEAFL clubs up here for a few years. Theres plenty of lighter weight ruck men around that don't have strength, bulk or ability to kick goals.

Cant be too bad. I understand St Mary's tried to get him there last season..:)

Have you been up close to Mummy. He is carrying very little weight that is not muscle. And he can get around. Brewer cannot get around adequately enough.

nicholls is the hieght of a stronger bodied mid and he played in the 60s. He wouldn't look like that playing modern AFL.

So this guy gets a pass because he is BIG. Not really good enough. The unecessary size is stopping him been as good as he could be.

Wowee what a contest..Nt v Southport...was very close to this game and didn't feel the game was over umpired... The bloke carrying on about Mitch Brewer, you obviously didn't see the umpiring last week NT v Redlands, that display forced HQ to take action.

A "war of attrition" would be an understatement to describe this game. 5 players across both teams failed to finish the game. With numerous other players on the field really struggling. The Sharks early played with fantastic intensity, smart structure, got the match ups there were after but really didn't get the reward for effort going into the long break. Then the "Chris Mew Dew" kicked in! Horrendous conditions for the second half with really just a little more polish and one Willie Rioli Jnr allowing the Thunder to eventually get home.
A fantastic game of footy in front of a healthy crowd and Rd 18 when these 2 teams face off again on the Gold Coast can't come quick enough.

Seanoff,as u would acknowledge,
When one as a supporter of their club attends the games on a weekly basis, one gets to see how good/average etc, a player really is, in comparsion to the opposing clubs supporting members seeing a opposition guy play only once or twice a season.
Let me say, Brewer is one of the big man that does get outside the centre square.Simply, he is a good player at NEAFL level, and over the past 2 seasons has had Essendon, Collingwood and the Bulldogs watching him closely. But they could most likely see ,he is not quite up to the standard that would earn him a draft/rookie spot.I know for a fact that in the summer of 2013, Essendon asked him to move to Melbourne and play in their vfl side, so they could monitor him more closely,,, but Mitch declined. Anyway, hes a good young player in the NEAFL comp, and ads to the standard of this comp.

Dogwarna,
watched this game on livestream which gives no real reality to the intensity of the battle if one was actually there at the game.( and it didn't help with the commentators,,, they knew all the Thunder players names, but had buggar all knowledge of the Sharks players names. So many times when a Sharks player had the ball they referred to it as a Southport player has the ball, but when a Thunder player had the ball, they were able to call the players name.... just a niggle from me.,)...

I actually think he has some hope of making it. But i don't think he is giving it the best chance.( this maybe his choice as evidenced by his not wanting to move) They might be looking for a bit more commitment. It takes a lot of that at AFL level. Even the most talented don't just roll up at the AFL level.

New poster on this thread.
I believe its top 5 make finals, For me it will be Thunder, Swans, Redlands, Aspley and Southport. Biggest improves for the year would be the Uni boys, already 3 wins under there belt.

palsterface2,

I think you might need another side inserted within your prediction above, as the NEAFL site shows the ladder line as a top 6 - I think there are only 3 weeks of finals this year, which makes sense to have a final 6 with 14 sides competing (although I may be wrong as every thing is still a little secretive coming out of NEAFL HQ), 2 sides to drop out on week 1, then 2 sides drop out in week 2 and then 1 side drops out in week 3 when the premiership is decided - you might have the winner here in the sides named above but, it is a very brave prediction at this stage of proceedings and I would not right off the Giants from the flag this year.

It will be interesting to see how the Thunder will go this week, playing in daylight (for only the second time this year) and if it is anything like last weekend the bitter cold, for a Territorian at least.

So have you been up close to Brewer? You attacked him earlier by saying he had rolls if fat. Have you been that close to know or are you making your comments based on a live stream?

Which afl team did you ruck for?

And guessing what he looks like under a jumper

not AFL ruck man size, and if that's the standard here. we should all **** off and not comment. I'm only 193 and 92 kg so a biggish inside mid, and far too old for the AFL.

and no i haven't seen the stream, maybe i should watch it. my judgement was made from within 5m.

he does seem very popular amongst you SE QLDers. ????

Are you saying you want the special comments lad back commentating that did Thundervision vs Aspley!

Finals this yr is a top 6. 1 & 2 have week off, 3 v 6, 4 v 5 elimination finals. Winner of 4 v 5 plays 1 so on and so on.
Interesting if southport finish third and swans or gws finish 6 we have a final between 2 teams that haven't played each other during the season in a ONE conference competition.. That gets a big Wowee from me!

Must be the only comp in aust where some teams don't play each other and others play each other 3 times!

As for brewer great guy and very good footballer. However I would agree that his build is not elite athlete- and I reckon he would be on an AFL list right now if he could get his body looking like an AFL player as his skills for a big boy are outstanding. Good player at neafl levrl
