NEAFL - Eastern Conference 2013

Another win to Eastern over Northern with Belco defeating Broadbeach by 6 goals.

Lokan was the standout with 12 goals. Very impressed with Belconnen's spread of contributors and ability to get numbers at the fall of the ball. Their work rate was very good and they controlled the game from the first bounce.

Hey ABH,
Any truth to the rumour that you are jumping on the Belco Bandwagon ? Can we say that it just won't be happening ? Or that maybe it might..............

Just a joke, just a joke ;):D

Yes indeed - another win for the Eastern over the Northern. I haven't gone into this in any depth but it seems that we are getting more inter-conference wins than we did last year.....seems that the gap between the two comps is narrowing.

And it seems that our Eastern Conference is evening up too - Apart from the Swans the top teams are more bunched. And the lower teams are stringing together some wins too. There is a good chance of an upset in every match to be played next weekend. As a Sydneysider, I'll be especially interested to see how the Eagles go against the Giants, and Sydney Uni can beat Labrador; Syd Uni is building up some steam as they get better teams onto the paddock and I'm thinking that they will be 'up there' pretty soon.

I'd be interested in some comments from one of the Queanbeyan people...ABH maybe - how does the club and players feel about playing in Melbourne tonight ?

- it's against Werribee and I imagine it will be a slaughter, especially with no Cav. It seems that Qbn is out of form at the moment.
- it's in Melbourne on a cold night at 8.30pm, and I bet it will be WAGs plus mums and dads in the stands.
- it means nothing
- it's on a Tuesday late, so presumably the guys and girls have to take Tuesday off work, and Wednesday as well. I guess most are caught up with work or studies, and the workers will need to call in favours from a kind-hearted boss.
- a reasonable chance of injuries for nothing
- the feeling from the website reporter, again and again, is that the Qbn players are weary already, without this.

If I were a Qbn player or key staff then I probably say it was a bugger and I'd rather not bother.

Convince me that Qbn is keen to be involved with this.

Ainslie apparently signed up this great player... Luke Jajoura... lots of clubs in the past, not sure if Ainslie made a good call there.

http://www.ntnews.com.au/article/2013/01/24/316936_ntsport.html

Im sure many other reports on this players past

In the past, he's played Sydney footy for UNSW Bulldogs and Baulkham Hills (which became Sydney Hills Eagles). Quite a presence as I recall !!
Best to do a Google Search to get the flavour of what might be in store for Ainslie.;)o_O

A landmark game in Queanbeyan's history. Never before have they been LIVE on TV. The eyes of football followers will be upon them so you can't tell me it means nothing.

Tell me it means nothing to some of the young players who have ambition to play at the highest level? This is a golden opportunity to perform on a stage where recruiters will be watching.

Take a guy like Kaine Stevens, not considered good enough to make GWS squad. Since then a BOG in the GF a 1st Grade B&F and a quality performance against SA U/20's.

Ask him if the game is important!

This is an opportunity that most of the players will never get again. Etihad, under lights on TV.

Maybe the result is not important in the context of the 2013 season but the players will be keen as mustard to perform.

This is just how I would view it if I was still playing.

speaking to some of the players leading up to the game this week and they are jumping out of their skin. lets be honest there is a decent gap between neafl and vfl but they definitely don't see this as a hassle. I didn't hear anyone complaining about taking work off. think most of them havnt played at etihad before and it's always good to get away with their teammates. plus I don't think players go into games worrying about injuries. they'd be privileged to represent the club- regardless of result. I think they are just glad majak didn't get dropped from the roos!

When the Rep match comes around, it always seems to be a drama to get guys to commit and take an interest - the excuses seem to be the ones that I pointed out in the last email on the topic.
So it's to Queanbeyan's credit that they took on the Etihad game with the enthusiasm and positivity that you guys have told us about.

Maybe the NEAFL should just dump the Rep team and let Qbn take on Tasmania !

Uni
Swans
Ainslie
Giants
Tigers

Eastlake should start hot favourites but if Tigers tackle like they did in that 2nd and 3rd term agaibst Werribee it could be enough to get them over the line.

Thought long and hard about tipping Belco, they are in top form and it would not surprise if they got up but just couldn't pick them.
Don't let me down Hills, I think the Giants are ripe for the picking.
