Hope Travis Johnstone is making a good coach at Aspley.Dropped again? Not named on the internet for todays game. Why put inj beside the players name.

All the Hornets contingent must have their heads in the ground. No response from the faithful.Rumour has it Payne not the only recruit that was promised high paying money for work that did not eventuate.

Staminade,

I dont think there are too many unemployed players at the Hornets at the moment, as they tend to look after ther own when it comes to the player welfare Department.
The only thing that is unemployed up there currently at the moment IMO and they are getting smaller by the week are a few inflated ego's.

What is high paying money? $1,000,000.00 or $1.00 it is all about selling yourself at the time the pen goes to paper, when your ego gets in front of your ability then everyone is in trouble.

I am sure that all associated with the club would love to be able to pay Matty Payne and others at the club very well to be part of their workforce as IMO, he and they as a footballers are worth every cent and as a tradesman or a stock broker etc I am sure they are worth as much if not more.

My point is - just to have a job at the moment is worth a lot more than most realise.

So stop stirring S--T and keep shaking the tins and selling the raffle tickets for you club, so you can achieve the network of having a great player support base that most would kill for.
Gee didn't Aspley get smacked, must be time for a new coach. Eagle just returned to form kicking 11.

Wonder what excuse Aspley will come up with now.Eagle in form before today with over 20 goals last 3 games.Him in the goal square with Ewing will form a potent attack next week for the state team.Coach is not worry.Get rid of Perkins and Tucker and the club will go fwd.Be nice to see what the Aspley faithful on here( at start of year anyway when they signed all these allegedly gun players)have to say about this performance. Can't imagine they play finals now and with Copeland on his last legs won't play finals for many years to come. Can't buy players and young talent are ignored who go to other clubs and perform as they are given a chance.Players from the club are on this forum so please explain.Pretty sure Damo C will want a explanation of these poor performances.

smy,

No disresect to your family but, good blokes work at the car wash - good footballers work on their weaknesses, there are a lot of dirty cars out there, maybe its time for a change of occupation for the good of the Lions!!!!!

You're not wrong BB - just wanted to try and even the ledgeer somehow for the bloke - IMO has been deadset terrible for a few years now. At least he is a good bloke.:)

Broady were good today.Just got to put 4 qtrs together and who knows.Long season awaits

Yeah, Broadbeach were very good today.as we know, in the off season they lost a few players and gained a lot of recruits.... are getting to know each other now and improving every week.... also, remember, they didnt have 3 of their top liners ( Poylas,Everingham and Shreeve) today....Eagles game today was exceptional, just a classic dominating forward display.was good to watch and appreciate the talent this guy has.He should be in the state side with Eweing.

Its a reasonably simple formula IMO when you have the talent base of young players that Aspley do have (at their own club mind you, not by trying to recruit every young fella from neighbouring clubs). Have faith in your own, top up with a few high end recruits but choose these guys carefully and not on past AFL experience nor reputation. Get a really good local coach who has good networking skills and people skills and is a teacher, not a coach necessarily.
IMO Aspley have taken a while to develop a football club that blokes want to play at without receiving big bucks - thats a shame bc they have great facilities and a great location.

Staminade,

Are you for real or are you a gee up?

Yes broadbeach played very well today but Eagle had a day out - take his eleven goals out of the game and it was fairly even - I might add that the lad who played on him was around 30kilo's lighter and he never gave up or spat the dummy for the whole day and he will learn by that game that sometimes players have a day out and Eagle had his today.

You speak of young talent being ignored WTF the average age of the Aspley team today was 22yoa and all but 3 of the players under 22 are former juniors from Aspley or the surrounding area.

Who are these players you speak of that are not getting a go at Aspley and are moving to other clubs? They certainly are not NEAFL clubs that they are going to.

Speaking of high price recruits, your club has their fare share like Eagale, Neagle, Poyas, Stockdale, The Pantics - shall I continue? there are not too many home grown juniors playing at Broadbeach, I think there are more running around at the Surfers footy club, so dont fall off your soap box Mr Two Face.

As far as playing finals is concerned, how was your August/September over the last few years?

Aspley might not make the finals this year I have to agree with that, but it wont be long before their current crop of young players grow up, bulk up and smarten up and then start inflicting some home grown pain to all clubs in the NEAFL - enjoy your success while you can afford it, as for your club to keep winning in the future, you may not be able to meet the ever increasing market price.

BB - would it be fair to say that the main issue Aspley has had in recent years is their selection of not young players, but the older more highly paid recruits? The recruiting of Payne seemed smart, the recruiting of TJ seemed dumb and that was before he had kicked a ball for you..

BB, appreciate what your saying about your club.. no worries about that. But may I say, you are wrong about home grown juniors at Broadbeach, as the club puts huge emphasis on their junior comps. Broadbeach have a large number of home grown juniors that are playing at senior level regularly and at reserve grade level occasionally gaining a senior spot .As proof i provide some of names of these home grown products.... Shreeve,Cooke,.Stewart,Mckenzie,Searl,Davidson.Quick,Killey,Brennan,Boston,Kolka,Sklennar,Freeman,Frawley,and a coulpe of others.
not being a smart arse, just quoting the facts about home grown juniors being at Broadbeach.

WTF!!! GWS beat uns last week. Did they bring the same team or did they get a local mob to wear their jumpers

Gws were always going to get a touch up with the players Sheedy rested from the week before.Lions did have 22 listed players. Those people who think Brisbane will tank this year better wake up.For once they are out to win the flag. With no injurys atm with Vossys men they will go very very close.

Notice in todays paper the state squad had no Eagle,Ewing and Hughes.Neagle drafted into the squad.Good luck to the team who should win fairly comfortably.

Did the State Doctor rule Hughes out?Have it on good authority Southport wanted for him to have a rest for the following weeks game against Labrador.
Rumour has it Bonney overseas holidaying. Why say he is injured?

2 big games after the break.Sharks and Tigers and Cats vs Lions.Cats have to make a statement against a top team.

A lot of the current state 18s refused to go to Aspley due to the reputation they have had in refusing to play local talent.May have changed as I was impressed with young Conway on Sat.Kids like Overington,Daye for example have gone to other clubs.Pantics on big $,you are kidding yourself.Your club could end up with the wooden spoon.Be the most expensive spoon earnt in a long time apart from Lions last year.

Noticed my tips didnt go through here late last week for whatever reason. Up to you but if you want to take my word for it i tipped 4/5:

Labrador
Southport
Broadbeach
Redland
Brisbane

Appreciate though if you dont accept, im easy either way.

Anyone know why this weekends state games werent played as the curtain raiser to Suns/Port Adelaide match at Metricon rather than early at Southport (home of the state team)?

Heres an idea:

Under 21's Curtain Raiser 10.30am
Suns - Port Adelaide match at 2.10pm
State Match at 5.00pm

Crowd stay for whole day - plenty of entertainment..Queensland football gets showcased
Sund get bumper crowd....opportunity missed

Might be more of a crowd at Southport as GC only play Port.
You will find Canberra teams will fly back strait after the game.

Pretty sure there is a rule saying that NEAFL games on the GC aren't allowed to clash with Suns so it doesnt impact crowd at Metricon. Personally the state game holds more interest, because watching Port just isn't very exciting. The early start for the under 21's is inconvenient.

LAB- should give the tipper that forgot the away teams as per other tipping comps.

I wonder how its going to go at Aspley next week- according to match report tha axe will be wielded. They have a better list than what they showed on Saturday. Cats were good but the Hornets lacked a genuine hunger for the contest IMO.

I expect the state game to be pretty one sided-looks a strong team for mine.

Good idea but reality is most people follow AFL and would not even know the state game is on. If your proposal went ahad, majority would leave after Port/GC unfortunetly.

Should be a fair few AFL recruiters at Southport on weekend for both games.
