Roadkill,

Love your passion on your club and its good to see you posting again - but my posts are my opinions, you don't have to read them and here are some more to get your blood boiling, from my limited knowlege of horticulutre, extended periods of frost is a grass killer - when in Brisbane have we had any extended days of frost???? and further to this re sowing grass is usually carried out in spring or late summer not in the middle of winter - the grass dying problem would not have anything to do with the traffic occuring on the this ground when you have 20 junior teams each week training on it would it? if so then this comes down to management.

In regard to switching grounds why did they not pospone this game until the Sunday instead of gifting an opponent 4 premiership points????if there was an impass and no possible way of playing at the fixtured venue would not two points be better than none - games have been moved to an alternitive day before this occasion and I am sure it will be done again in the future.

My knowledge of the expectations of the power brokers and others at the club who were touting at the start of the season was one more if not 4 more notches up the ladder would only be an acceptable outcome, sounds like the big time to me?

As for players being drafted - no player to my knowledge who has played directley for Aspley has to date been drafted, they might have been juniors at Aspley but then moved on to other State League clubs to go on their way to the AFL.

As far as recruting goes the same excuse comes up each year - is it poor judgement or wrong cattle? if its not working then fix it dont keep using the - all clubs have the same problem excuse as most don't.

In regard to Football Club Football Managers - you can't install brains in monuments - enough said.

As for my posts I call them opinions you call them pot shots, we will agree to disagree on this point.[/quote]

Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but some abuse the privilege. You have delighted us long enough Billy

I take it Billy, your beef is with Aspley maybe you have a reason to be disgruntled with the club?
But I think you are wide of the mark on Broadbeach - more research required.

I like it when you prefice your opinions with "from my limited knowledge".

well if they didn't do the re sodding of the ground. the players could have taken their pale and bucket out onto the ground and made sand castles. because by this time of the year the ground is usually a dust bowl

and

before someone comes a long and says give noosa the licence on the grounds not being up to scratch for wet weather. whenever it pours rain up there. it's like trying swim across the english channel

I have no objection to $5 entry fee at Broadbeach as long as they keep serving their Gold Medal steamed dim sims. They certainly set the benchmark in the NEAFL

kitty,

I have no beefs or gripes with any club, that is very far from the mark - traffic yes, taxes yes, boss yes, wife ????, Footy is just a game at the end of the day but which for some it is more than that - my whole point of my posts is - here is two clubs as rumour has it on this forum that are looking elsewhere to play - if we believe that then we should all be down at the bottom of our gardens looking for fairies.

It was an opportunity to give my views on these two clubs who have not been very succsessful ON FIELD for many years - one in their time short time and one with a longer time in the AFLQ and NEAFL system compaired to the other clubs competing. For some reason it has pricked a few of you to instantly get on your high horse's and condem the comments made. My limited knowledge comments are not far from reality for both clubs - it is time they grew up and stood up without making excuses for their current failures. Flags and finals appearances for that matter are very few and far between in both camps.

Not sure anyone will offer Noosa a licence Damo - and they wouldn't accept it either if they did IMO - and you are right about their ground! Saying this, not sure what grounds would hold up under 100mm of rain!

I think the main issue with Aspley that surprises people is that they tick all the boxes for success but seem to continually shoot themselves in the foot somehow.. It is an easy cop out IMNO to say "we have only been going 3 years in this comp"... - its not rocket science and I could give examples of clubs in similar sort of strength comps that have been successful from near the first year they were in it.

BTW - name the players who have been drafted from Aspley? I can't think of too many that even went to play at a higher level and were drafted from there?

As for Broadbeach - a city the size of the Gold Coast should have 3 NEAFL teams IMO. Gee I bet they are dining out on Zorko too - he is braining them. Creates that big precedent too now for other mature age recruits from this comp.

Thunderdoc, good point,
yeah the steamed dim sims are good.
Just to entirely get away from the footy posts in the last 2 days, can I entertain(just for fun) some comments on the food available at the clubs on game day. For example, yes the steamed dim sims are tops at Broadbeach, I found the steak sandwichs (real steak, not steakmince ) at redlands are unreal , and the hotdog with shreeded cheese at Labrador is good.Anyone for comments on this...eg whos got the best pies, hamburgers, sausages or the best chips, coffees or icy cold beers etc etc.Just a bit of fun, but if feedback is supplied, well we will all know what to buy at any ground we are at.... at the same time contributing a few bucks to the home club on game day.

SMY105,
not disagreeing with you, but look at the Neafl competing clubs. Yes 3 on the gold coast plus the Suns, yet a city in Brisbane, 4 times larger in population, has only 4 clubs plus the Lions. Not a bad effort from the gold coast clubs especially taking into consideration the battle to find employment for recruits on the gold coast.

SMY1305,
agree, Zorkos performing well above expectations. Shows the difference when a mature aged recruit that is 22 or 23 years of age and has played 2 ,3,or 4 seasons of senior football against hardened bodies etc etc, has this particular player adjusting to the elite level much quicker then the young 18 year old coming out of schoolboy footy. Still its a must to have the young guys to develop, but some of these so called mature aged recruits will be getting drafted more regularly in the future,

Yeah not sure if quite 4x but anyway we are talking a city of 600,000. GC not unlike the sunny coast in some respects - its not so much about the money that clubs can offer 9although it helps!) but the job opportunities. At least you have more than 1 uni! This has certainly helped keep young fellas on the sunny coast in recent years. Tough one - imagine Broady pull every player south to Coolangatta as well that want to play NEAFL?

I did not see any windows on the bus that you could donate your enterance fee out of when visiting Broadbeach in your visiting role Doc"" But I am sure the hearty feed of the gold medal dim sims would make up for this.

Lions to continue on their roll against Labrador.
Aspley to upset Suns.May change this tip if game is transferred to Gold Coast.
Morningside.Are due.
Redlands at home in Tasmania always hard to beat over Broadbeach.

Lions
Aspley
Southport
Broadbeach

Intend to give a detailed rundown on the Dim Sim situation and food at venues next week, I have been sampling for some time.
Stay posted.

Lions by 200.No Notting and Davey.
Southport by same against fat and slow Panthers.Bonney needs to go to Jenny Craig.
Suns.Who knows if they show up.
Broadbeach.Must win game.8 point game as they say

Lions.......Best Team in Comp by plenty
Aspley....Pride? Suns with plenty of top ups? Not sure how they can get quality young NEAFL players from other Clubs though...reckon that is crap and shouldnt happen. Top ups should not have played at NEAFL level with a competing Club
Southport..2nd best team in the comp
Broadbeach ..in a wrestle in the mud

Lions comfortably- Labrador are vulnerable to dropping out of the top 5. Lions just too strong
Aspley- due for a win
Southport- Morningside are too young but are developing some good young ones that will see them through in the next few years. Their waistlines seem ok to me Staminade. Sharks are a good side this year.
Cats- No Poyas or Eagle last time when the sides met and tied. These 2 to tip the scales in Broadbeach favour

absoulutley agree should play northern NSW or Country kids, PHC kids the list is endless. same with starcivich plays morningside one week lions the next, i hope he gets on a list somewhere but the integrity of the comp takes a dive when these things occur.

stuyd 1,
In answer to your question - this has all come from the post from the rumour mill that the Cats and the Hornets are looking to get out of the NEAFL - yeh sure - my post reflects the work that both of these clubs need to do to lift their standing within the NEAFL competition. Both Broadbeach and Aspley have had limited succsess todate within the competition compared to the the other power houses that I have mentioned earlier and both in my opinion they both have a lot of growing up to do to get near the respect that the more traditional clubs have in the AFLQ world.

Broadbeach supporters for example speak of there comitment to their juniors - they had probably had the better juniors playing in the GC-17 in the TAC Cup year than most other clubs in Queensland - I can only count 1 at present in Luke Shreeve still at the club (I may be wrong on this) with a lot of the those others kids scattered on the coast playing in the PHC comp or not playing at all, players like Rolfe, Green, Hutchinson etc, the question is why?. The shinning light for the club is Tinka, while we all watched in amazment at his skills each year and shook our heads at each years draft when his name was not mentioned again the question was always why? He has now proved that he was always good enough but the question of why still has not been answered, and with young Bostto also looking the goods it may be a good year for the Cats finals or no finals or will he too suffer the same torment that Tinka endured. While I admit that they along with the Tigers are the poor cousins to Southport on the Coast, their committee have made a lot of changes over the last 12 months for the future benifit of the club and that is with a lot of their supporters time and money as well - but this does not make them all of a sudden succsessful, they may make the finals this year and I hope for all of their supporters hard work they do (they may also thank Aspley for their poor management skills if they do) - but the arrogence of charging punters and supporters a levy to watch their team/s play when visiting their ground is a disgrace and lacks the respect to the game and the supporters of it. (its not the money here it is the principal).

Aspley too have a lot of growing up to do as well IMO and this rumour of them also wanting out is a timley pin prick that they too need, abuntant with finances and a club house to rival most clubs around Australia along with the pick of all the Northside junior players for their future, they are still making the same dumb mistakes each year after year, their ground was always a doubtful AFL ground and the condition of it has always been second rate at best, so fix it - this might mean a year playing at O'Callagan Park for this to happen but to give a virtual 4 premiership points gift to an opposition club due to the ground not being fit to play on is a joke, this along with the ongoing poor recruiting picks and the elusion of one year making finals out of 3 years in the comp has also put them in a we have made it in the big time attitude - no players drafted and a huge player turn over each year will IMO hamstring them from being a succsessful club for years to come - but on the up side they along with most other NEAFL side dont charge their supporters to watch their games.
illy

Billybunter,
It is not just Broadbeach that charges a $5 entry fee ..... Labrador and Southport do also....supporters havent got a problem with this ,as they feel they are contributing to the clubs.it is additional revenue to the clubs as you would well know, and vital to especially Broadbeach and Labrador, that need to raise revenue in all possible facets to be at a competitive level ( I bet Morningside and Mount Gravatt would enjoy this gate entry fee as well, but they dont have the set up to apply this, as anyone can walk in to the arena from any direction) The last thing we need is for the financially strong clubs such as Southport , Aspley,Thunder, and the 2 afl ressie sides dominating the comp year after year.( Aspley havent got it right yet but will acheive success when they do get it right ) .In victoria and the southern riverina, all clubs in every league charge gate entry fees and have done so for years. For example in the Ovens and Murray league it a $10 entry fee, so 5 bucks up here is not over the top.
Billy, as I said, its all Gold coast clubs charging a gate entry fee, not just Broadbeach, so please refrain from continually bagging Broadbeach about this.I say this to you with good intention, just leave it alone please. We need to raise revenue where we can.!!

Agree with both of you - dumb practise and the AFLQ should not allow it. Exceptions would be if a kid is playing 2's of course but reckon this would be unlikely. Although the integrity of the NEAFL comp is already compromised in a variety of ways, there is no reason to make it more so IMO.
