excellent win with such a young list, inspirational performance by Kent Abey returning from a serious facial injury. Wonderful weather and Broadbeach continue to provide outstanding steamed dim sims.
Surprised by Broadbeach's level of effort at home with their season on the line, bit tough some of the comments towards their coach - I would point the finger at their playing list

Well done to the Tigers on the weekend got back to playing the type of footy that won them games at the start of the season. Although they have not been able to get the results against the top sides this year they have pushed them all the way & in most cases well into the last qtr. As for those scibes that earlier in the year questioned the development of youngsters at Tigerland have a look at the reserves that with an average age under 20 & will now play off in finals. The senior side has blooded many of them throughout the year & is not much older in average age.

With the fantastic support over the past couple of years fom senior players such as Notting, Noble & Shattock these Tiger cubs may become a dangerous group in the coming years. As they say Rome wasn't built in a day!

Didn't get to see the sharks v NT game but obviously the Thunder are a very good side up there.
No need to panic for the sharks though and agree with Norm's comments about travel arrangements come finals.
For the sake of the professionalism, AFLQ must send sides up the day before during finals. I know it is not good to change rules during the season but obviously it is ridiculous even during the season to be travelling that far on the same day.

Certainly from the panthers perspective a great win and their young young talent on display give,s them some hope for the future. On the other side the Broady playing group looked devoid of any leadership or passion. It is pretty obvious to most observers that the Coach has lost the playing group. After 2 years at the helm he has has not really delivered the sorts of results and rise ladder position that would warrant him being considered to continue his time at H & A Oval. I have heard comments from High Profile football experts like "There is no game plan or formal strategy or structure.
This despite a significant recruitment drive over the off season and the resultant additional expenditure as a consequence really means nothing has really changed in terms of the clubs relative position in the competition. The quality of the playing list has improved but obviously not enough to make any significant difference.
Clearly there are some hard decisions to be made over the off season.

I expected Broady to be in the 5 this year. Based on last years results - I thought they were very unlucky not to be in finals and would continue to improve.
Coach was rated very highly in most circles last year for all the things you mention above. So whats changed?
Have watched them 4 times this year and reckon they have just been unable to replace the midfielders such as Zorko and Walton. The other bloke I think was Curtis?? He was a class player as well.
Also what happened to Eastwell? He impressed me early in the season and Poyas has not played alot of games.
This club was second last to Magpies in 2010 ( so effectively last and I think there reserves were too?)
If they recruited to win a premiership this year then the coach and whoever else deserve to go because that is one sure way to fail!!
Have heard rumblings even last year that the coach was not popular amongst a few parents who might weild some power. Is this true Staminade?
To be honest I don't think any club would be looking to sack their coach this year (that includes Aspley as well).
I think all clubs outside of the top 3 are in a development mode or should be.

Only need to look as far as Palmy/Surfers Riodj! The sole reason we picked up Derek, Emblem, Curtis was due to the coach. And could only speculate that Fulton, Rolfe x2 going to Surfers, are for the same reasons! I still speak to a number of players and supporters of Broady and the general feeling is not one of confidence. Having said that, rarely at a football club do you have 100% support for a coach that at times will need to push ego's and sentiment aside for the "better" of the football side.

I personaly would doubt you will see Angus at the helm next year. But again, I am making the comment on what I have heard from a select group of players and supporters. Certainly not willing to put money on it!

And whilst on the topic Riodj, Will Normy be continuing on next year?

At this stage yes Kwhit he will continue. Have not heard anything further than since mid year. Why wouldn't he?
Good coach, stable club.
Of the players above - only the Palmy boys worthy of state league imo. Fulton was a great fwd.
Only hear second hand myself - obviously more to it. Club has had a bit of a "culture problem" in the past but I thought they had moved on from that last year. Obviously hungry for quick results. If they get a new coach then they need a long term plan- which I thought they did in regards to young talent etc.
They have a good president from what I have heard so I am sure he will have a handle on it.
The perils of coaching a cellar dweller !! Another Matty Primus!!

i dont think there would be to many candidates out there to fill these roles anyway would there?

The vultures are certainly circling down at Broady. Not sure a coach change is the answer. Well intentioned supporters are desperate for finals no doubt. Would think there would be a pretty thorough review of players and coaches at season end!!
Can't blame recruits solely but I am struggling to see the value in a few of them. Couple played twos on weekend which was overdue by a few weeks in my opinion. Young kids that played on weekend were terrific.
The team is craving a bit of on field leadership and composure. Just let Morningside back into the game twice far too easily.
It was only two games ago against Redland that there was a decent effort. Need to bounce back against the real Vultures.

Very sad way for Josh Vearing and Chris Smith to finish up at the Vultures on the weekend. Whist their individual performances were as solid and reliable as ever, the rest of the crew need to take a hard look at themselves. It was an embarrasing effort. The fact that the Vultures scored some goals in the final quarter when the match was dead, flattered their performance...Big effort to regroup ahead of Cats this weekend.

If it makes you feel better Maurie the mighty Cats aren't travelling that well either. Hopefully should be an entertaining game this weekend with the pressure off both teams for finals etc. After a pretty decent showing against Redland albeit a loss, the last 2 weeks have been poor by the Cats- a few senior players have let us down a bit. On a positive note, some good signs from some of the young guys that have been blooded in the last couple of weeks and digging has started on new changerooms....

The news could be good for Redland- their likely elimination finals opponent Suns are battling for numbers.

Tweet from Morningside last night

"@MorningsideFC The great man Shaun Mugavin announced his retirement tonight at training. Get to Jack Esplen Oval Sat"

Great of the club - ideally would get to play a final game in front of home crowd but not sure injury will allow it? Otherwise sendoff might have to be the club ball Sat night!

final game for adam devine on saturday as well. he has been a pretty good player over the last 11 years. 1 club player as well and i think that's pretty special

also someone should tell peter blucher to look up bali bombing on google before refferencing it. they happened on the 12 of october 2002. that's not more than 10 years ago

Going away for work tomorrow with no internet, so my tips for this weeks round are:

Bombers. Finals fever at Bomber Land to get them home, Labrador will challenge them though.
Suns. Great win last week now to repeat the dose.
Sharks. Will bounce back hard for Adam's last game (Great Clubman).
Hornets. Four quarters of new found footy - playing for pride.
Thunder. Cake walk for the Northerner,s even with Muggsies annoncement on his retirement (Champion Bloke).
Cats. In a flip of a coin, may just have a better list to combat the Vultures in this game.
