Jesus most of the team has had covid. We're getting flogged every week regardless. If I was Simmo I'd encourage the whole team to go out and get on the piss for a bit of team bonding. So many new and young players.

If that was to happen, it probably needs to be a bit more organized and inclusive than 7 random members of the playing squad flaunting rules/guidelines/protocols and hitting up a nightclub.

Typical ‘Gen Me’ behaviour.

Everyone else has no problem ‘reading the room’...but these 7 mental geldings put their own needs above the ‘many’ - confusing their own ‘rights’ with what is sensible, morally (Ethically, Provably) correct and ADULT behaviour.

Not the first time a footy club wishes it could put a man’s brain in a man’s body.

Steady on Boomer. It may not have been sensible or in line with some guidelines that may or may not have been clear. However, nothing immoral has happened and going to a night club is actually ADULT behaviour.

And ideally we won't do it at a place, or on the same night,as the opposition team that has just smashed us (narrows the options I know as plenty of teams will smash us this year)

Morality can include having the honesty to stick to club rules -
Going to a nightclub is an ADULT activity - their behaviour is defined by their club rule-breaking, lack of concern for their club’s reputation, their careers and disregard for the health of their team mates and team propects.

By questioning my reference to ‘Gen-Me’ - you show a willingness to accept responsibility - so I won’t question your opinion - but re-inventing the clear intent of my words...is a bit shallow.

this is so embarrassing. why can't the club put up a unified front publicly and dealing with whatever nonsense behind closed doors if need be? i still don't even see what these kids have done wrong. we're on the bottom of the ladder with a big injury/covid list and they went for a few ciders at the hip-e? who fn cares? should they check the ladder and outs before deciding to do perfectly legal activities we're all allowed to do?
at some point this overly onerous bullshit is going to creep into mental health territory. it is literally just a game of football let the lads live their lives already ffs.

Read my last post..it might help spell out the issues.

Correct MS.

If you want a bonding social event have it as a mass event, hire a venue, close off a function room, book out an entire restaurant for the evening, have a BBQ at someone's house, whatever.

But don't do it as a breakaway few, going to a nightclub full of coughing, sneezing, farting Covid diseasees.

I refuse to believe you can't see the teams angst at not being able to properly field a team as it is and then players ignoring team rules and putting themselves, the few actual available players we have left at risk, which also knocked the coach out however long as well with Covid. If you can't see that then I dunno what to tell you

Naish, Dixon, Chesser and Bazzo are all on roughly $100k base salary (or less) so a $2,500 fine is pretty substantial. Especially when you consider that whilst they broke team rules they didn’t do anything illegal

The other 3 can probably count themselves lucky they weren’t fined more given that they’re more senior players and would be on more money

They can live their lives at anytime. No one is holding a gun to their head saying you have to be a professional afl footballer… its their choice, some of them are on more then most people not only of their age but in general so if you want that money it comes at some kind of sacrifice.

You would think being delisted once would have straightened naish and dixon out so to put their career back in jeopardy doesn’t say much for their mindset.

Except it’s not. It’s their job, for which they are paid exceptionally well and as a job requirement are expected to abide by certain rules and expectations that most others aren’t. Hence one reason for the money. If they don’t want to abide by that level of professionalism, walk away like Cameron did.

It’s also an industry worth many hundred’s of millions a year. There is more to it than just letting lads live their life.

I don’t see it as a hanging offence mind you. It’s now been dealt with (albeit somewhat messily) so time to move on. But I see it as another sign of issues at the club.

Well said. I fear Jupes response is very much about why these players behaved the way they did....’It’s his gun, he can bring it if he wants’......

Certainly NO team ethos ...Simpson has his work cut out.

Yep - as someone said a few posts back it's not a hanging offence but given the clubs predicament with covid and injuries you'd think common sense would tell them at the moment it's best just to keep a low profile. Players obviously drink far less than previous generations of footballers, especially in-season, but they are still entitled to let off some steam from time to time even when results are dire. That being said, they've really got to pick their moments better.

I see the club said they aren't in a position to be suspending players so that means it may have been on the cards if we had more availability. If they thought it an appropriate response they could stagger them a one weeker for each over the next couple of months.

Nah, you're just a flog

so you all want young men banned from perfectly legal activities, that we are all entitled to indulge in mind you, because of stupid rules that might inconvenience what is ultimately your weekend entertainment? talk about 'gen-me'.

It has been well documented that play groups, kindergartens and primary schools are where Covid19 is being transferred and are the real hot spots in Perth.

Surely the club has "guidelines" in as to ensuring senior players who are parents stay in separate rooms (if not separate houses) and do not partake in any physical touching of affection of the children. It appears that there have been a large number of senior players who have ignored this guideline and I hope to read about the financial sanctions imposed on these senior players.

The issue is these 7 young guys (4 of whom have been on our list 6 months or less) see the 'standards' set by the older players and club leadership.

Coming back to preseason unfit
Putting their hand up to play when clearly not ready
Choosing when to go and when not to in games
Playing in ways that seem to be the old game plan, not the new one

Not to mention the drink driving, drug tampering, oversized jumpers, not having a set of 45 jumpers full stop, on-again-off-again WAFL side

But thankfully the club has now put their foot down, good to know where the line in the sand is

Oh dear. You do realise we’re not enacting legislation here?

We’re asking players to stick to a TEAM ethos...so the teams we support, and often pay money to support, have a chance at success,,,no matter how remote.

This is not about ‘personal liberties’....its about being a ‘team player’.....and not jeopardising your team and your employers prospects.
