It says Federal money, but who committed it, the outgoing LNP government or the incoming ALP government? ie is it a LNP promise contingent on election success?

I ask because just this week Morrison promised a similar amount of money for a similar purpose to the North Queensland Cowboys

That is the obvious question. But it’ll work either way. If the city council have come to terms, there’s no way that the funding won’t be available from a Labor Govt as well.

Sort of.

The ACC don't want this bit of land and haven't for years.

Good move by the club, we worked all our debt down for this very reason.

I’m assuming we’re going to be given a lease on the land not be purchasing it.
Generally that means we need to be creating a money generating asset on it, as we won’t get anything from the land value appreciation.

I wish they'd used the term "Grand Plan" rather than "masterplan" just because we play in Grand Finals not Master Finals. It just works better with word play

I would hope it is committed expenditure by the Feds for us to announce it.

It is not an upgrade but a complete move. Therefore should be more concrete than a mere promise.

The problem is by the sounds it isn't concrete plans yet. Long way to go with the ACC.

I also recall reading somewhere that the oval itself is already under the control of the council.

It is. Woodville-West Torrens have been using the ground over the summer after letting their agreement with Therbarton lapse (Charles Sturt offered a better deal for Footy Park).

I'd say itll be done soon enough. The ACC will of course want something out of it but they don't want the facility currently there.

It'll be more dependant on how we source the rest of our funding.

Yeah I hope we havent announced it too early and it falls over.

Which would go against a lot of the messaging we have done in recent times. The Optus deal. No one even knew we were in the market for an Joint Major and bang we announce it.

We wouldn’t have gone public had the council already not be on board.

No way we’ve gone too early, it’s a done deal.

I'd really hope so. The aquatic centre although old is heavily used by so many different communities and would be a huge loss for that side of the city.
Most of the new training facilities for AFL clubs are partnerships that benefit the community. So cant see the Aquatic Centre.being closed down for the public.

Apparently the feds were going to announce it in the budget coming up so the club Wouldn't have been able to control the announcement on it's terms

This is from the Adelaide parklands preservation society's website regarding the Crows relocation.

www.adelaide-parklands.asn.au/crows

There is no detail about how such a centre would operate, who would be admitted, for what prices, and how much of the site, if any, would be available for non-members i.e. the public.
There are also questions about the extent to which the Crows might be wanting to take over one or more of the four adjacent sporting fields in Denise Norton Park / Pardipardinyilla (Park 2). The Ovals are licenced to Blackfriars Priory College.
We may be cynical but we fear the worst. Money talks, and the Adelaide Crows have the financial resources to make the Council an offer that it might not be able to resist.

Can this group stymie the development or are they inconsequential?

If the State Government get behind it, should be ok.

But they will make noise. They did help block the Adelaide 500 grandstand and made a mess of the obahn extension (ironically making it worse for the parkland). So not inconsequential but not full blown powerful.

They have no idea lol. Any use of the ovals would be in partnership with the school!!
