When do we back down and instead give West Lakes a spruce up?

Send Phil Harper to steam clean the carpets with those machines you hire from Bunnings. A few new pot plants and we're good as new.

Were we too hasty in giving up on the Aquatic Centre?

By memory that was the time around Covid and finances were an issue and we thought it all too hard? Under Chapman and Fagans watch?
I think if Malinauskas was the premier at that time, it would have happened. He would have called out the ACC and made it happen.

From memory we announced the full plans for the Aquatic Centre in December 2019, but put it on hold due to Covid in early 2020.

I'm not sure when we withdrew, but it was still a potential option in October 2020 because Olsen discussed how it was a still a possibility when Thebarton Oval was first being touted.

I suspect we pivoted away from the Aquatic Centre when we moved our focus towards Thebarton Oval.

I think COVID killed off that plan as the clubs focus was surviving with what they had.

I reckon we would've persisted with the Aquatic Centre had it not been for COVID

Sadly the Aquatic Centre was the perfect location, but I think the club got spooked by the opposition to the plan and went looking for easier options.

The best location was the Gas Works site where we would have owned the land and essentially been able to do whatever we wanted on the site, it's a shame that it didn't pan out for us.

I'm still convinced Olsen thought he could look after the SANFL and that they would play nice because of his connection.

Bottom line is that it's been a joke and yet another example of how utterly pathetically this club is run.

A good organisation would have been able to do all the negotiations behind closed doors, and announced everything once it was completed. As soon as you open everything up like this, you open yourself to delays and stupid people protesting.
It's yet another embarrassment in a very long line of them.

Have the Victorian developers who won that Tender started on the project yet?

Brompton was first

Which negotiation could be done behind closed doors? Obtaining council approval? That’s not possible.

What negotiations with the SANFL have caused the issue besides SANFL having to find a new home before they can move?

Brompton was first

No one actually knows

We knew of Thebarton being an option almost immediately after Olsen's appointment in 2020 and we didn't know about the Gasworks bid until May 2021 (no one knows when that was first flagged as an option).

The old regime was sold on the AAC in 2020 so I don't think Brompton was on the radar until later.

Are we currently at the lowest point in our history?

In 2020-21 we stank on field but there was the promise of a rebuild, hope that the new coach was restoring a strong culture, and off-field a new HQ loomed to coincide with when the on-field would start bearing fruit.

Now in 2024 we are wedded to a long-term unsuccessful coach, the playing list has holes everywhere due to poor drafting and development, can't win a game and require at least another phase of a rebuild before any sustainable competitiveness as the promise of 2023 has been sabotaged from within. Off field, as the biggest sporting club in the state, we bend over to whoever asks and get absolutely nowhere on a new HQ...amateur and embarrassing. Meanwhile, our rivals threaten an era of dominance.

How did it get to this?
