I would like to know why all these so called soccer fans constantly bag the APL. We are all soccer fans who are craving for a succesful national league and does not help when people who ARE soccer fans are always putting down the league before it hasn't even started. Soccer has a hard enough time in this country as it is already, so PLEASE lets not turn on ourselves. Do these fans put down soccer in Aus because of the cultural cringe u think?Lets all be loud and proud aussie socer fans!!!!

How can i support it when my club, Hellas has been kicked out of national league and not been offered a spot in the new one?

Untill such time South Melbourne get asked to play in the APL;

VPL > APL.

i was also a a sth melb fan aand attended regualarly and loved it. But you must realise the league isnt strong enough yet to have sth melb in it. I really hope the second team from mlb will be souths. But to this to happen we must have a strong melb team first. a strong APL= room for souths. A weak APL means they will have to have another new franchise because they will be too scared to go with a former ethically based club. And if souths arent in it..then u can have two teams...one in APL and one in VPL

Of course, and i wish the Melbourne team to have Gooner like success. I agree the APL will be most successful if Hellas are present and include their histroy etc.

Perfect situation for me would be dominate the VPL, (which wont happen :() and get asked to play in the APL.

If South dont get offered a spot im really not sure about supporting the new Melbourne club :(

So you're going to sell out your own team and then come crawling back when we are asked into the league?

Im just not into this state rivalry crap, it just dont interest me, my club is south melbourne playing in the vpl, i will stick with my club, the whole idea of the apl is to get your bogan afl fans through the gates or aussies who have never supported a soccer team. Lets face it the apl is a concept created to bring anglo aussies through the gates, if they all attend i wont mind it will be good for the sport, but like i said all you have to do is look at the way the majority of afl/nrl fans who call the sport wogball and hate it, do you think they will turn up to this new league? i certainly think not.

Didnt they muck up the launch date for the apl? i dont like where this league is heading.

Maybe he is just going to support Australian soccer.

I will be going to Qld Lions games, although I have no attachment to the club. Hopefully 10000 fellow Qlders will do the same thing.

Look at the bigger picture.

The idea pf the APL is to get ALL AUSTRALIAN'S to embarce and love the greta game of soccer....Can we please forget all this wog Vs Anglo crap!!!! Footy is so succesful because they have managed to embrace large sections of the australian community. If soccer is to be succesful thenit must have braod based appeal. As mentioned before i love souths, but when the they chant Hellas...what am i suppossed to feel? At souths i always felt like a welcomed guest...its hard to feel part of it when the chant of Hellas goes up....but saying that i loved sths and the atmos...but heres hoping ALL AUSTRALIANS can love soccer. NOt just the traditional soccer sections of the community. And boro is right.im not selling out...i am just soccer fan who wants to see a strong national competition and a strong national team aswell!!!!!!!!!!!! GO SOCCEROOS!!!!!!!!1

I was a first-year convert last season. When I got to Hindmarsh Stadium for Adelaide United's debut match... I left wondering what the hell I was missing.

I was missing a damn good time with other mad South Australians, something I don't find in the AFL which is devoid of real atmosphere. Port and Crows cheer groups pale in comparison with United's following.

When you go to an AFL match, cheering is reserved for when goals are kicked. At the soccer... singing and chanting every step of the way. Rarely ever see that at football matches. However I find it in the SANFL, because Centrals supporters are the loudest in SA footy. But that is the only other place I find real loud and proud supporters who just don't stay quiet.

I understand what you are saying Igor, I would never have set foot in Hindmarsh before United came in to watch either Westies or City. For the supporters who want to belong to a group, its hard to feel that you belong when their interests are mainly for one ethnic group and not for the state itself.

Although, I would like to think that South Melbourne would and could represent the rest of Victoria's soccer lovers because I sure as hell wouldn't feel the same way at Somers Street... not after what I saw there.

ive supported south for all my 20 years.
i went to my first game at aged 3 and have been coming ever since.
its my team and thousands upon thousands of others team as well.
why would we support a team (melbourne victory) when our club should be there instead?
and for those who say well hellas is dead and the national league must move on without you greasy wogs must have never been to a south match either and the fact that not everyone is greek.
you look at leagues right around the world, monaco play in the french league, the ********ing kings play in our league, our fricken league, cardiff is a part of the english set up and absolute ********loads of teams have ethnic ties and backgrounds which they associate with.
Every country in the world does not have a problem, except mr lonely and his bum chum o'neill who knows ******** all about the game in this country.

ive had enough of all this ******** and igor you claim your a south supporter but seriously you don't understand nothing of what a being a true south melbourne supporter really is.

NO SOUTH NO APL

Like thrylos and supermercado said, we have plenty of non greek fans at south and too me they are better then the average greek who goes to south matches, its the morons that called us greasy little wogs that i hate, and now its the same people that want us to go and support the apl, uhm no thankyou.

Why should the kingz be in it and not south? igor your not a south fan, you say you feel uncomfortable with the hellas chant, at least we had a mix of all people at our games chanting hellas. What makes you think that i will be comfortable in an atmosphere with 20 p1ssed bogans in front of me chanting "victory victory".

Im sorry but i am a south melbourne supporter, if this league is to work its all the anglos that need to make it work, and no not the aussies that come and support hellas who are terrific fans, but the ones that call the sport wog ball and hate it to death and made fun of clubs like south who for a long time carried the code in this country.

This league will fail because people snubbed the likes of south at every opportunity and now expect us hellas fans to come and support them, no way, my team is in the vpl, the vpl is what i will attend. I will watch the apl on foxtel but thats about it. I might go to 1 game only but to be a week in week out supporter not a hope.

Yeah right, like emphasising ethnic differences is going to do the game and our society a whole lot of good

Since when was emphasising division in society a good thing? NO WAY IN HELL. That's the LAST thing this country needs right now.

You shouldn't be expected to jump teams. The option is there IF you want to use it, but I doubt many South fans will do so because they want to support THEIR team and the team they have supported for years.

and for those who say well hellas is dead and the national league must move on without you greasy wogs must have never been to a south match either and the fact that not everyone is greek.

The Hellas aren't dead, the national league they played in is.

As for the fact not everyone at South is Greek, well that is true and South certainly do have a larger non Greek support than the Knights non Croat support. South at least tried to open themselves up to non-Greeks and because of this when a second licence for Melbourne becomes available in the NNC, South should get it. Thus making their stay in the VPL important. Show that you can get the crowds, show that you can make money and show you can play at a standard that will make you successful in the NNC.

Just wondernig why Rocco had to post this under his Stepanovs alias?

Oh and so for the South sooks, enjoy the VPL, and your derby matches with Heidelberg viewed by 10 men and the Ken's Kebabs van. Assuming the club doesn't go under first.

I'm with the Hellas lads on this one. I'm not supporting a league that will kick South out for being ethnic (who had strong attendances of roughly 6000 on average) yet retain the Auckland Kingz who were absolutely pathetic in the NSL and by the end were attracting enormous crowds of 900 to their games.

I just hope we can go into the VPL and dominate and get strong crowds to our games. I will laugh so hard if we get bigger crowds than some of the APL teams. Just remember, initially the APL may get good crowds, but there HAS to be a team that finishes last each season. I wonder what their crowds will be like once the initial honeymoon period is over?
