Alex Pearce with Serong and Brayshaw as Vice-Captains.

Absolute no brainer.

But this is the point, there likely was no actual tap. Greats in any field get the option of walking without any acknowledgement that there was pressure. In any case, they usually have the ability to read any tea leaves themselves. One famous exception was one of our great PMs, Bob Hawke, whose ego wouldn't allow him to accept that Keating had the numbers, and so had to be voted out of the job rather than stepping down at a time of his choosing.

Luke Ryan seems pretty sure it's between Brayshaw and Pearce, judging from his comments in The West article.
He also makes the interesting point that although Brayshaw is four years younger, he has played more AFL games than Pearce

Wondering if we’ll get an announcement this week.
I think we might but I'd be betting early next week after the Friday game.

On a related note. Pearce showed why the "fullback is too far from the action" stuff isn't an issue multiple times on the Friday. It's not just Freo but now all teams push up from the last line a lot when the ball is in their hands deep forward. He was regularly on HF and almost the wing when his team had the ball deep forward such as when a shot on goal was happening. During those times he was regularly talking with mids, forwards etc and organising stuff.

One interaction with Liam was on the outer wing in front of us ant wranglers when Tabs was shooting at goal and it was after Liam had run from the back pocket and ended up in the forward pocket but didn't touch the ball despite presenting multiple times. He told Liam "loved what you did there, you gave options and it kept the zone wide which meant we had the middle". Liam was not frustrated by not getting the ball and agreed his running had helped with the ball movement even though he didn't get it. Great pick up by Pearce and nice to hear Liam know well that running to present won't always be rewarded with the ball but is still important.

That's an advantage of being last man back there, you see the field and with the modern game you spend a lot of time high anyway so can definitely interact regularly with the team.

I also think the injury thing is a silly furphy. He's had a strong recent period, looks good now and him going out won't hurt us with the great options we'd have backing him up.

Well main reason I could think is that while he's amazingly good, he's got scope to go extremely far... having to captain at the same time might slow down that upwards trajectory. A Serong that is given every opportunity to become the most powerful version of himself is a must for Freo, and him being captain has the potential to hobble that while he works out the role.

Plus, leading isn't all about revving people up, and putting everyone on your back - it's about how to make the weakest link still strong, experience and age factor into that and well.. Pearce has done an apprenticeship already as a captain, and clearly is a leader (he was in the leadership group even when he never got on the park, so shows you that the players value him).

I see what you did there, nice Jack G ref.

Goss from the boy.

Had a few players at the school yesterday (including JOM and Clark), vote expected to take place today/tomorrow (Wed/Thurs).

So expect an announcement prior to the Adelaide scratchy.

While I think it should be Pearce for a couple of years...

To those who would chose Serong over Brayshaw, why?

To me Brawshaw is the obvious one to lead us into the future either now or after a couple of years of Pearce.

And I love Caleb, don't get me Serong

Lol sounds like Donald Trump is in control of the ballot - the players submitted their votes, now we'll tally them and get some input from others so we get the result we wanted all along

Scuttlebutt from that launch is that it’s Pearce
I like it, give the 2x bulls a few more years to focus on development.

Serong and Brayshaw as joint vice would be good.
