Problem with Ziebell is he is a man without a position in my eyes. If we had genuine midfielders (such as the 2015 draft crop), I think he would be a 2nd string midfielder and while we play 3 talls, he is in the same boat as Wood and Black in that we have so many small/mid options across HF that we won't waste that position on players not capable of providing defensive pressure.

I still think he is in the 18, but like a few players (Dal Santo, Gibson, Spud) I think if we have a fair dinkum think about pure structure of the team, there are reasons that they might not fit it.

Please. He is the heart and soul.

Good footballers will always fit into any team.
Not sure how Dal Santo may not fit in, given our lack of run and good delivery?

I'm a bit torn. I think Jack would make a great captain but he went missing a fair few times in crucial games last year. Ditto swallow (albeit coming back from his injury). But Jack's had his injuries too.

Not sure there are any other candidates.

JMac.

Not that I think we need a new one, but Cunnington would make a fantastic skipper.

He stands up and goes from good to great whenever he has had the pressure thrust on his shoulders.

Swallow goes down, Ben becomes the man...when the big games are on, he leads from the front.

I might be on my own here, but to me he screams leadership.

He actually needs to scream it out loud.

Cunners is the strong silent type.

Jmac needs to stay on the park, at the moment he hasn't proven is body is capable.

I back Ziebs in, they swapped skippers at the Hawks and won 3 flags and the disposed skipper went on to be their 3rd greatest player ever probably.

If Jmac can put together a few more games like the GWS game against decent opposition then his game will be at a level commensurate with that of an AFL skipper.

If he was more seasoned I think Ben Brown could be a great club captain.

Plays with passion. Humble, dedicated and really appreciates the opportunity. An intelligent and confident communicator who has isn't scared to express an opinion.

And already speaks like a coach with a 'broader' perspective than a lot of players. Even from his early games he was doing things like praising Drew Petrie's efforts in the forward structure with terms like "we really like the role he plays for us".

It'd be interesting how hawks supporters considered the possibility of replacing Mitchell before it happened.

While I respect people wanting to retain Swallow with "it ain't broke" (not sure consecutive top 6 H&A finishes doesn't at least warrant some analysis of the leadership roles), hawks were dicing with team disunity standing down a friggin premiership captain.

Stability = Swallow stays.
Energising = Ziebell gets a crack.
Calm head = JMac ready now

Don't mind any option as long as it is done really respectfully.

My Leadership group in 2016:

Jack Ziebell - Captain
Drew Petrie - Vice Captain
Jamie MacMillan - Vice Captain
Andrew Swallow
Nick Dal Santo
Scott Thompson
Shaun Higgins

Ziebell has to focus on being a consistently good footballer before he's given the captaincy. We all know how influential his good games are, but he has far too many poor ones for someone of his footballing ability and leadership credentials.

I don't understand why some think Spitta should be replaced?
He leads by example each week. He isn't a superstar but heck he's a tough mofo who bleeds blue & white. Jack is obviously the next can off the rank, but id like to see more consistent performances first..
I reckon Ben 10 should be the next skipper. Unassuming like Stevo.

Not really a front runner. Loved them since the Russian 5 was causing havoc. Fedorov, Kozlov, Konstantinov, Fetisov and Larionov.
All right then. You get a pass. But literally in my lifetime (the Leafs last won in '67) the Wings have been roughly the equivalent of Hawthorn, the Leafs the GoDees. Though I've only been following properly since I first lived in T.O., and the Sundin/Cujo/Corson/Tucker/Domi/Roberts Leafs were pretty fun. Just went and looked them up and there were some names I'd already forgotten - Berezin, Perrault, Kaberle, Hoglund, Korolev. Good hockey club that era.

I really love hockey. Grew up on it as a main winter sport as a kid.

Goldy would be a poor choice, would be a sitting duck for criticism should he have any dip in form after his AA season. Just let the big fella do what he does.

What happens of Zeibell has a duck in form? Strange argument
