New captain?

I'm a bit torn. I think Jack would make a great captain but he went missing a fair few times in crucial games last year. Ditto swallow (albeit coming back from his injury). But Jack's had his injuries too.

Not sure there are any other candidates.
I actually wouldn't be miffed if they gave the captaincy to Macmillan. A lot of people might scoff at that but as you said, the others spend extended periods out of the game and when we had a lot of players out of the side v Richmond and he was one of the leaders, he stood up. I think that's what you're looking for in a captain. Ziebell would be great, but is he going to get injured, hurt, suspended? And I would never want him to change the way he plays, but a captain needs to be out there 90% of the time, so for me it would either be leave it as it is with Swallow or Macmillan.

Because it worked so well for Melbourne.

We already have the opinion that the leadership group in general is too large.
I'm not a fan of co-captains myself but although it didn't work for Melbourne, it did work for Sydney, who won a premiership with co-captains. Although I don't think the captaincy situation was a major contributor in either result.

Credence Clearwater Revival like this.

Credence Bongwater Revival more like it.

I once saw a prominent News Ltd identity - I shall spare their blushes and refrain from naming them here - drink bongwater at a party for a beer after he had run out.

What about sydney? Top 4 for the past 4 years with 2 captains...... kinda cuts through your melbourne example.... i also agree the leadership group is too big but has nothing to do with what im talking about.... captains and leadership group are seperate

I don't have to call. I think this started on Nine news. I hadn't heard it before then.

I like Macmillan, but he is not captaincy material.

A handy role player and good on field communicator from all reports, but that ain't a Captain.

Ziebell is the right choice. He just needs to play better more often.

I see him as a forward who can go through the midfield rather than the other way. He would have a Stringer like season if played in that role.

JACK Ziebell has downplayed speculation he will replace Andrew Swallow as North Melbourne captain next season, saying he sees no reason for a leadership change.

Swallow has led North for the past four seasons, taking the club into the finals in three of those years, including the past two.

But with the West Australian set to turn 29 next June, some commentators feel the time is right for him to hand over the reins to vice-captain Ziebell, a natural leader on and off the field.

Like most clubs, North has yet to confirm its skipper for next season, and won't do so until it finalises its 2016 leadership group shortly before the start of the NAB Challenge in February.

Ziebell told Radio Sport National on Wednesday he didn't anticipate North would make a leadership change then.

"I haven't spoken to the coach (Brad Scott) or anyone about that. There are a few rumours but I think our skipper at the minute, Andrew Swallow, is doing an outstanding job and I don't think there's any reason why that will change," Ziebell said.

The inside midfielder, who will turn 25 in February, said it would be "an outstanding honour" to captain North one day, but reiterated his belief that Swallow would continue as skipper in 2016.

Asked whether he was ready to assume the captaincy next season if called upon, Ziebell, who has shared North's vice-captaincy with Drew Petrie for the past four seasons, said he hadn't "really thought about it a whole lot".

"I've just been concentrating the last few years on my performance and developing as a leader and we've got some great leaders at our footy club that have been helping me develop," he said.

"If it did come my way it would be an outstanding honour, but at the same time I'm not seeking it out or anything like that.

"So what will be will be."

Standup of you to share your bongwater.

So Swallow turns 29 next yr and Zeibell 25 Hmmmm.

I think a change could be just what the team need. New voice and all that, might be just what Zeibs needs to go up a level.
I'll back Swallow if things don't change though. In saying that maybe Mcmillan might be a small chance who knows.

I think Goldy is best left to concentrate on his game and keep growing all them dicks. He rucks most of the game and i think Captaincy might be to much for him imo.

Choosing the right captain is paramount. One of my 28 mates was on Family Ties this year and they chose the wrong family member as captain - lasted one night.

...could never get over how Mallory went out with that loser.
