Not a fan of the logo in isolation.. though it is growing on me on some of the merch range

For me it's an issue of both concept and execution. They were clearly trying to capture the same vibe as the OG Crows logo and while it's a great logo in itself, rebranding should always look to innovate. As for the execution, well it's absolutely horrible. Nothing besides maybe the head and 'claw feet' (no idea why they decided to keep the only bad part of the OG logo) makes any sense anatomically or geometrically. I understand people disliked the current logo, myself included, but at least it looked like it belonged that of a professional sporting club and not some Halo 2 MLG team.

I'll come out and say the same thing I said about the Tasmania logo, it's AI-generated slop. I just cannot accept that a human being had oversight and was proud/able to present that as a finished product.

I don't know, maybe this is just the future of professional sport branding and I need to embrace it or become Amish.

Honestly I don't think it's nearly as bad as people are making it out to be. It works well in the real world applications I've seen so far.

That isn't to say it's perfect. My biggest bugbear with it at the moment is the Lego hand talons.

I would say people are complaining because this new design is a mediocre version of a better, existing, successful logo (90s crow).

The fact that it's an upgrade on the previous raven is getting lost in the wash.

I actually think this logo will be a grower for a lot of folks. That said, the font is already dated.
So you're saying it's a grower not a shower?

Hawthorn did it better imo

I don’t really get this comparison. It’s a completely different graphic style and the pose isn’t exactly unique. I mean there’s only so many ways you can draw a flying bird and Hawthorn didn’t invent the wheel here anyway. West Torrens for example were using swooping eagle graphics in the 1950s.

No idea what I think about this thing.

I see it on the navy background and get into how good the yellow and red bounce off one another and the aggression of it. the angularity and how sharp and square it is makes every other AFL crest look rounded and soft.

Then I see that logo at their headquarters and it looks like a 'wot if' photoshop for a newspaper. so empty and half-done looking.

I think this consideration for applications – digital, professional notices from the CEO, scoreboards, the textiles used in a jumper versus a polo against a hat – can actually hinder the purity of the logo and those individual types themselves.

Maybe it's familiarity but you chuck the 90s Docker as an instagram profile image or in the tiny bar on afl.com.au or on a broadcast or woven into a shithouse 50% plastic polo or onto a billboard and it all looks recognisable and distinct. I'd probably even say the same for box-Hawk, the Power-hand. might even sound a bit nuts but I think the wreath and leaf Carlton logo stands out in every use far more than the monogram.

Even when I think of the obvious exceptions, they're just modern grabbings of an existing element or former core logo: the Gunners cannon, the Liverpool liver bird.

That isn't to say it's perfect. My biggest bugbear with it at the moment is the Lego hand talons.
And why can I see two talons but only one wing? It's like a 2-and-a-bit-D view.

Unless the smaller talon is a third mutant middle talon???

The application is fine in my opinion, the problem is it's just a slight downgrade on an already average logo.

Just look at the logos on the AFL website. Despite differing styles you could say most if not all logos 'fit' well together. The only one that sticks out like a sore thumb is Adelaide and soon to be Tasmania as well once they join the league.

It has grown on me a lot and I think that while it does stick out a bit, it's more so due to many club logos being built around a shape that calls back to the old school VFL shield logos rather than there being anything fundamentally off about the Crows logo. I actually feel like it's one of the best logos in the league now, especially since the 2010-coded mascot logos are not ageing gracefully at all.
I also dislike how hesitant clubs are to allow their logos to be displayed without the wordmark. The team bar on the AFL website would look much cleaner without the tiny mostly illegible text around the logos.

I wonder if they’ll be using the new logo in the SANFL as well. At the very least they’ve changed the club colours so they might need to make that minor change to the shield logo. I figure changing the senior logo is the good opportunity to unify the branding like what we did in 2020.
