Re: Brady has second knee surgery

"Dr. Nicholas DiNubile, a knee specialist and spokesman for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, has not examined Brady's knee injury, but said that generally, an infection must be aggressively treated and monitored, according to the report.
"This can happen to anyone having a surgery, but it's a relatively rare occurrence after knee procedures," DiNubile said, according to the Globe. "The earlier you recognize and treat it -- that's surgery and antibiotics -- the less likely you're going to have problems down the line. The best-case scenario is that they got it early, and if everything goes right, he would be back at the same time as was expected."

Did A'l organize dirty scalpals gg?:p

No Belichick did... This is just a ploy to chuck the scent off the trail, ala Brady wearing the leg brace the weekend before the Super Bowl ;)

He was banged up in the SB, he was hurting during that game, you could see it on those hits.Funny, it was the first time he was off the injury report for... you know how long, in the first game.Maybe now BB will list him as
Questionable- Knee:thumbsu:

Re: Brady has second knee surgery

Ah well the season is a write off now anyway ..
Just have to look to next year, and hopefully the great man can have a great and succesful recovery ..
The league is much poorer without having Brady in it IMHO (despite the constant and bitter Pats hate from neutral fans)

I agree wholeheartedly to that comment but I don't buy the notion that the Pats were ever going to have another 'fabulous season' ...be more competitive is what everyone likes and people that think not having Brady can only even up the league is talking thru their arse. 12-4 season beckoned for the Pats but now it's shaping up as a 9-7 /8-8 season at best or thereabouts. I'm not bitter, just disappointed the Steelers
won't have a chance to beat Brady in his own house in Week 13. :(

Beating the Bungles without Carson Palmer is the same... even without Willie Parker. :p

Re: Brady has second knee surgery

One Boston paper is reporting it as not so big an issue (globe) and the other is saying its a big deal (herald) The press didn't even ask BB about it today, because it has gotten to the point where they have waived the white flag with him on injuries and don't bother.I'll bet its somewhere in the middle. The good thing is he has a whole year if this was a week 10 injury then I would be more concerned. I still expect him to be ready for camp. Either way he isn't there now.

Tom Brady Could Miss 2009 Season as Well

The problem began with the infection that set in soon after the Oct. 6 surgery performed by Los Angeles-based doctor Neil ElAttrache.

After the infection was detected, Brady went through six weeks of antibiotics and surgical irrigation of the infected area. The infection finally cleared but as it currently stands, both the ACL and MCL remain “loose,” the league source said. Meanwhile, scar tissue that built up in the knee as Brady’s body battled the infection is still present and might need to be surgically removed.

Even if Brady gets the scar tissue removed, regains greater mobility in the knee and is able to get the strength back in his quad, the looseness in the ligaments won’t go away without a second surgery, the source said. At this point, deciding to have that second surgery would cost him the 2009 season because a second surgery wouldn’t be recommended this soon after the first, especially with the current condition of the area.

Could also mean Cassel might return to the Pats next year.

Re: Tom Brady Could Miss 2009 Season As Well.

Brady back on track. Can I get a collective booooo.... :)

TAMPA -- Tom Brady is progressing on pace in his rehabilitation from reconstructive left knee surgery and is now dropping back and throwing passes, according to a medical source familiar with the Patriots quarterback's case. No additional surgical procedures are planned, according to NFL and medical sources.

Since Brady suffered a postoperative infection, there was concern that the damaged knee would require more surgery to deal with the buildup of scar tissue and other possible complications that could prevent him from being ready for the 2009 season.

The medical source who has been consulted about Brady's injury said Brady is "on track to be fine for the opening game of the season.

"Based on anybody else doing an ACL rehab, he's going right along. He had a shaky start, but he's caught up," said the source.

Re: Tom Brady Could Miss 2009 Season As Well.

It was a mutha ****ing fumble though.......

I'm with you there, it was a fumble. Officials called the tuck rule launching the Patriots run as we know it today. Without that play, history would have been different. That is what you're talking about right? However, the Raiders went to the SB the year after and well from that point on Al Davis made decisions to the detriment of the team.

On Brady, Curran's report to me is still true, there's a problem with the "looseness" in the knee. Is there a risk if he gets back on the field, starting to play? My impression is that Brady's knee is not perfect, and that he would have a second operation to make it as close to that as possible but that would mean he'd miss the 2009 season. However, Brady would be asking the doctors if he could play on the knee this season, and what risk that would involve. This is interesting to watch it play out, though we cannot predict exactly what is going to happen and the Patriots play smoke and mirrors that I cannot tell.

Re: Tom Brady Could Miss 2009 Season As Well.

I have no real issue with Brady and hope he gets back to playing near enough to his best. It was a mutha ****ing fumble though.......

i think issues or not, any fan who wishes his abilities be drastically inferior to what it once was, or worse....his career over, is a pathetic excuse for a human being. the league and its fans is much richer for the presence of a player of his calibre.

and i thought the officials made those sorts of decisions.........

I agree, hate to see anyone's career derailed or ended by injury. I actually don't mind Brady, never had any issues with him. The Pats as a whole, maybe, but not Brady. I like watching the man play tbh.

And yes ladanian, that was the play I was talking about. The launching of the Pats dynasty. Enough has been said about it though i reckon.

Re: Tom Brady Could Miss 2009 Season As Well.

Great to see Brady is healthy and will be back asap.
Still, Tom Brady is yesterday's news. We've got Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco and Jafatso Bling to watch rise to great heights now, and Tony Romo to watch further crash and burn both on and off field.

Re: Tom Brady Could Miss 2009 Season As Well.

Not sure if your aware, but they franchise Cassel a couple weeks back

they couldnt have........not until feb 5 anyway. but 'at the moment', they have all intentions to slap the tag on him.

gonna be a quite an outlay just on the QB position alone, even though Cassel's number wont contribute to the cap. still, based on this, Cassel might end up receiving a bigger annual salary next season than Brady.......and from his current salary of just over half a mill, he'll be getting quite a pay rise! Someone can confirm this, but i think the franchise tag salary is based on the top 5 'base salaries' (so excluding the sign-on) as of April of the current or prior year of the tag (depending on whether the tag is exclusive or non-exclusive)......so hypothetically, if a non-exclusive tag is slapped on Cassel, his salary will be the 2008 average of Favre, the Mannings, Palmer and Bulger. Even though Roethlisberger was the highest paid player at the position, and in the league for the past season, almost his entire wage was a sign-on, so i dont think this will included in the calcs......but once again, someone who knows can confirm.

Re: Tom Brady Could Miss 2009 Season As Well.

Well I heard in a radio interview with Tom Brady that he said he will be starting week 1 next season. I know who's word I'm going to take and it's not some schmuck report from NBC Sports.

Re: Tom Brady Could Miss 2009 Season As Well.

I think Tom Brady must frequent this board. Not long after I posted what I did....

Tom Brady says one of his goals is to play football until he's 40-years-old.
We don't often pull material from Entertainment Tonight, but we get desperate for non-Super Bowl news in late January. Brady's desire to play for seven or eight more years is music to Dynasty league owners' ears.
