But black's actually one of our colours. To me the grey just makes it look stretched out, or made by BLK.
Would it somehow reduce heat by not being truly black?

Definitely the lighting. In the pic of Dusty you can clearly see the Two Face Tiger is black instead of brown, as it appears in the other shots.
