The NRL have done a great job with those jerseys - getting the necks, sleeves and logos right. The AFL's effort has been much more disappointing, they don't even give us proper VFL/AFL logos on the woollen retro ones, let alone sponsors etc.I still don't get why the AFL don't produce retro guernsesys from a particular year with sponsors (if on the guernsey that year) like the NRL do here https://www.nrlshop.com/jerseys/retro/

A real nightmare to get sponsor approval though, I recently tried getting approval from Cash Converters for old Western Reds retros but they denied it unless we used their current logo which really defies the purpose...

I'm not too sure on the process regarding that, sorry. How do you go with defunct or businesses that no longer exist? Still need approval from anyone?
Trade dress is always owned by somebody. If there's no commercial value ascribed to it the receiver will usually co-operate. Brands wanting to use modern logos/branding are missing the point with this sort of exercise. How do you go with defunct or businesses that no longer exist? Still need approval from anyone?
What about a cartoon clash jumper?there is nothing that will make people feel like parting with their money more than feeling nostalgic about their footy club.

The AFL would see 5 times as many retro guernseys if they'd get this right. The sort of people who want them are the sort of people who remember the old logos. The VFL one they use is crazy - too few stitches on the footy and the wrong shade of blue. Nobody old enough to remember the era would get that wrong. It's very short-sighted.
How could you not want your business name out there!!An excellent business makes those

Exactly. They try and claim that they want to remain consistent and avoid brand confusion. How could you not want your business name out there!!
It’s free advertising.
I heard the same, but it always sounded a bit bogus to me. The AFL has no interest in the value of 40+ year-old privately held guernseys, few as there are around. Sure, they made the decision on some basis or other, but it's had a big impact on the heritage market. I'd never consider buying such an obvious fake, even if it's AFL-approved...I remember someone saying that the reason for the inaccurate VFL logo on these new retros - as well as the pointy AFL shield logo on the Crows one - was to differentiate from an original
Is this going to be our new 'Return the Wings'?No way Exxon would say no to a bunch of feelgood Esso-branded Tiges guernseys this year. Similarly Spicers for the Woods. Get on it AFL.

I don't mind the idea behind these woollen guernseys, but as you said if we're supposed to pay $200 for these they should fully commit to getting the details correct. I would love a Hard Yakka or a Spicers Paper Collingwood guernsey.
