But why? This is what I don't get. I've been hearing it's locked in for 3 years and we'll be getting industry standard (whatever that is). Surely that's all that matters, amirite?

"Big name" doesn't necessarily mean "good". As kaysee pointed out, we were previously sponsored by a Mt Gambier trucking company and a dodgy mobile phone company. I used to be with that mobile phone company and I can testify that they were utter shite!

Ive heard everything that has been here on Bigfooty, so 3 years sounds good
but on face value it doesn't seem like a good sponsor and thats all i have right now

Scotts were great for us, Vodofoone yer you're right there

I'm only speculating but perhaps the major supporters of Food Bank get a spot on the jumper next to the Food Bank logo to 'highlight' there generosity towards Food Bank. Those companies pay the sponsorship money and we in turn promote Food Bank and the company.
The benefit being we get sponsorship money, the company gets extra exposure as both a donator to this charity and a company in it's own right and Food Bank gets more exposure leading to more potential sponsorship and awareness of their function. Just a theory.

And FoodBank could be great for us too. Who outside of Port Adelaide and the trucking industry would have known who Scott's were before we took the name and company logo onto the AFL stage? They were hardly a household name, were they.

i wouldn't know, i was like 4 no wait 3

They might be, lets just wait for the press release now

well, thats worse than what i was hoping for

So we will have gardeners and a charity on our jumper for 2012

awesome.

I'm not enthusiastic about having a charity, but tell me what's wrong with having VIP as a sponsor? I think they are a great fit.

I just signed them up last week to clean my house every fortnight. The bloke came in today, and did a pretty decent job.

Who cares who's on the jumper. As long as they're not paying us in Monopoly bills I fail to understand what the problem is.

That's the concern. Duncanson said recently that the deal is unlike no other, revolutionary, that sort of thing.

Like most, will reserve judgement.

Was recently involved in some focus groups for the company I work for and when we asked as a local business what were people looking for in the top three were value, price and demonstrated support of the community.

Whilst not a direct comparison, people (and entities) like the notion of community/charitable involvement. Whatever the actual outcome may be it should no doubt be a positive one.

Thats depressing. What about product knowledge, availability/accessability and customer service.

I think we all have assumed customer service is dead in most businesses, eg Telcos

Yeah, but its the whole point of local business.

If I want value & price I will buy off internet. If I want something that works that I don't have to think about, preferably sold with a smile in a good location, local every time.

Pretty much what I said early today in post #717

When I went to a club info night - think it was the August 2010 as I sat with Toots Hibbert who passed away last year and I can't remember going to any with him last year, Haysman talked about the short, medium and long term plans.

I still have my notes from that night and one of the long term things was the Power Community LTD. My notes say

- do what some Euro soccer clubs do

- set up a separate community entity that generates as much through them as core football club

- community programs with SANTOS/BHP and others will be run through this entity.

So this may have been worked on for a couple of years as it seems to tie in with the Power Community LTD concept.

I go away for one day, and see people go ape shit over something that I'm lead to believe isn't the joint major sponsor.

Who cares who we get? some people have short memories that we finished 10th, 10th, 16th, the last 3 years. You can't get the "Big Name" companies to support you if you're not successful, we are currently not successful.

Ah tomorrow is the first footy show for the year. Now it makes sense why this has been a bit longer and will be announced tomorrow.

Hopefully they get a decent spot on TFS and either Keith or Brett give a coherent straight forward explanation to what is going to be a complex deal.

So by the looks of the news article posted in the other thread by TSW, Foodbank is indeed going to be on our guernsey.

Looks like everyone's fears are pretty much unfounded. As long as we can find the 10 mini-sponsors/tax write-offs, we get a guaranteed quarter mill and Charity gets the same, plus another level of recognition ( I had never heard of them before today).

Better than a no-name company looking for an upstart, but then failing and not being to actually pay us.

We have invested heavily in an indeterminate number of unhatched chickens.

IIRC KT mentioned 2 more major sponsors to be released before round one after the release of VIP

Foodbank is one then, no news on the second

Now we need to get another one. Was watching the 7-30 report last night and saw Clive Palmer on there and with today's Foodbank partnership, I think there might be a chance to bring the two together.

If Clive came in with a No Mining Tax logo ie set up a company with that name or set up another one with No Carbon Tax, he then can get his logo on our jumper and as a well known philanthropist he can make a big donation to Foodbank as well. He is pro free speech as we saw with his logo on the GC United jersey. We could work our way around the AFL rules.

I reckon he needs a bit of positive PR after Swanny has tried to get stuck into him and his recent fight with FFA.

This bit got my attention last night on his 7-30 interview with Chris Uhlmann. He was talking about taking the Carbon Tax to the high court as he has legal advice its unconstitutional.

CHRIS UHLMANN: Sure, but as you say it's the companies that you own, your the ones who are directing them to go to the High Court and that's the way you choose to spend their money.

CLIVE PALMER: Look, I've never paid one dollar. I can say I've given away this year more 100 times the Treasurer's salary to Australians who are needy. I wonder if the Treasurer, how much of his salary has he given away to Australians that need that work? I've certainly done that. I've set up a $100 million trust in Western Australia for Aboriginal people in medical research. I've donated $6 million to the Duke of Edinburgh Awards so young Australians who can't afford it can go and do their programs. So, you know, really, this is a little bit of a joke, really. And for my personal ...

CHRIS UHLMANN: Why then do you think the Treasurer sees you as a, "... poison that infects our politics and is now seeping into our economy"? They're strong words, aren't they?

CLIVE PALMER: Well if I've done anything wrong, he should prosecute me or something like that. Of course he says that because he's desperate. You know, one day a rooster, next day a feather duster and he doesn't wanna become a feather duster. So, he'll distort anything. The Labor Party'll distort anything. And in a spirit of love and reconciliation, we can forgive the Treasurer. But the Australian people will never forgive the Labor Party for destroying the opportunities of our children and future generations. My family's got a strong commitment to this country. We fought in the First World War and people have died. I had four of my family members fight in the Second World War. Three of them now are still injured from Vietnam. My nephew served with INTERFET up in East Timor. We believe in Australia and the things it stands for. And we believe in our right of free speech in this country to say what we think. Even if you're a billionaire, you're still Australian and still a citizen. We don't want to categorise people by who they are, where they come from or where they are in society. All of us as Australians have a right to have a point of view and to say something. It's you, the media that should highlight more diversity in our country rather than clagging on to me or the Treasurer.

only for himself

clive is a delusional egomaniac. he's just destroyed one football (soccer) club and you want to bring him here to destroy ours as well?

I wish I was a delusional as him if it came with his wealth. He's just been voted a national living treasure ;)

Speak to those who work for his companies the overwhelming feeling is that he is a lot better than average boss. He rewards his workers very generously, especially come end of the year to blue collar workers. He's never stopped anyone speaking out, just he likes to speak the loudest.

He wont own the club, he wont run it but he could use it to push his barrow. The GCUFC is too small a barrow in too small a market. For the right premium I'd have him on board.
