Nice that they got the Fitzroy long sleeve wrong.
Their jumpers never had Blue arms, only Maroon (Red) with Blue cuffs.

They can't get the Brisbane Bears long sleeve jumper right as well. The gold and white lines extended from the front of the jumper around the sleeves of the jumper. This picture is from the Lions own website.

Why do some players have collars and others don't?

The acrylic (looked like wool) had collars, and the polyester printed versions did not.
So blokes like Merrett and Gowers have the old style jumpers, McLean & Leppitsch the new ones.

I would say it is personal preference. Two of the older players in this photo, Andrew Gowers and Roger Merrett both have the collar on their jumpers where most of the others do not. This was just before jumpers were made by different companies.

The AFL has become stricter on the way uniforms are worn these days. The loss of the collar on the jumpers was probably the last thing to change before that. It would be hard to remove them today as it would be seen as destroying the jumper. Today a big thing is made of a player wearing a long sleeved jumper with the sleeves removed as a Geelong player did during the season. Players will get into trouble today for cutting their socks and reattaching the tops so the create shorter socks.

The collars on the jumpers were always there on jumpers. A Hawthorn jumper I got in 1991 had a collar on it. But as more players got annoyed by the collars on their jumpers they removed them until soon after this picture that jumpers were produced without collars. However, today the players would be forced to keep the collars on their jumpers because it would be seen as destroying the jumper.

Jumpers were starting to be made of the new Sportswool by the time of this photo. If you take note of the Gold V on the Bears jumpers they are a solid V, except for the one worn by Andrew Gowers which you can see is created by to strips of gold to form the one gold V. This is probably due to it being a long sleeved jumper.

Why do we have to bastardise these things?

The best footy beanies are the traditional and current ones: pom-pom, strip of colour with the team name, and logo (or if you've got some cred, a VFL logo) stitched on.

They look nice. They aren't 'bastardised', they're just a different take on the usual dog**** the AFL puts out

I agree with SA. I prefer the traditional beanies. New Era will take a 20$ beanie, make it look like crap, and double the price.

yeah, nah

The New Era beanies don't even look that different to the traditional ones we're all used to; and they're certainly not "crap" or "bastardised".

Why is white in those beanies for teams that don't even have white as a colour? I may be exaggerating, but it is the textbook definition of bastardisation IMO.

It's a matter of taste. Those regular beanies are pretty unique to Aussie Rules – they're uniform and almost everyone at the game has them, if they're sporting a beanie. Why have a slight variation on a theme if it doesn't have that traditional, 'footy' vibe?

It's not some jingoism. It's not anti-Americanism. It's just that New Era is total turd.

You'd never wear it, the material is terrible. Whereas the actual media polos are some of the most comfortable things around

Found these on goodscore. They're most probably not ISC but can anyone make out what it has on the left?
