NewOrleans.Football's Nick Underhill reports Saints WR Jalen McCleskey has "stood out" at practice.
McCleskey pasted room temperature production as a five-year starter in college, totaling 167/1,865/17 across 42 games opposite Big 12 competition and 37/581/4 in his final year with Tulane in the American conference. Although he has yet to play a snap during the regular season since going undrafted last year, there's clearly room on New Orleans' roster for McCleskey to emerge in place of Michael Thomas (ankle, PUP) or Deonte Harris (pending DUI fallout) in the short-term. Tre'Quan Smith and Marquez Callaway are also viable picks to keep in mind in the later rounds of drafts given the team's lack of available bodies at the position.

Saints signed RG J.R. Sweezy.
The team waived DT Lorenzo Neal and CB Lawrence Woods in corresponding moves. Seattle's former seventh-round draft choice out of North Carolina State in 2012, Sweezy played four seasons with the Seahawks before leaving for Tampa Bay and, most recently, spending the last two years churning on Arizona's roster off the bench. He provides much needed depth among New Orleans' trenches.

Saints signed LB Kwon Alexander to a one-year, $3 million contract.
Alexander logged seven games with the Saints last season after being traded from San Francisco. He tore his Achilles' in Week 16 but should be ready for the start of the 2021 campaign. New Orleans released him after the season but his $13 million cap hit forced their hand. The Saints worked out Alexander in July so the signing likely indicates that they're comfortable with where he's at in his recovery. In his short stint with the Saints, Alexander defended four passes, forced a fumble, and recovered two others. He was listed as a starter in all seven contests and only just turned 27 years old. He'll be a solid contributor to the New Orleans defense again once fully healthy.

IF it's completely genuine and the issues he's apparently worked passed (attitude, goals, his eye sight etc) then he could really become that star QB he looked like he'd be.

The question shouldn't be is it Taysom OR Winston, but instead how can the off work with BOTH.
You can put Winston in for chunk plays or deep threats and Taysom in for QB runs and play options.
I dunno if that'll work or not but they do compliment each other really well.

That could also work against both QBs and receivers that play better with different QBs. Often heard former players in the booth talk about how its too distracting on the field, they want one leader etc. Still, it could work where Hill takes all redzone plays. But that idea could also work against the offense where Ds know whats coming with each different QB. Reckon instead Payton will choose a starter wholl get 90% of action and if he sucks then the other takes over as starter. As in Winston with Hill backup surely

NOLA.com's Jeff Duncan reports Michael Thomas "failed to return multiple calls" from coaches and training staff over the course of three months during the offseason.
Coach Sean Payton, the Saints WRs coach, and the team's former trainer all attempted to contact Thomas over the spring, only for their calls to fall on deaf ears. Per Duncan, the team advised Thomas to have his ankle surgery to correct ligament damage after last season, but the player opted for a more conservative route that focused on rehab and therapy after a second opinion. Thomas then went dark, working on his own out of his California home. Thomas then reported to the team in June when it was discovered he now required the surgery because the ankle wasn't any better. This was Thomas' second run-in with Saints higher-ups after he got in a fight with teammate S C.J. Gardner-Johnson last season, earning Thomas a one-game suspension from the team. Payton called Thomas' decision to delay surgery "disappointing" and said it should have happened sooner. Thomas is now going to miss the start of the season. He also seems to be wearing out his welcome with the team. "Slant Boy" has no guaranteed money left on his deal after the 2021 season.

NOLA.com's Jeff Duncan reports WR Marquez Callaway has been the "breakout star" of Saints camp.
"There’s a belief inside the building that the offense will be just fine without [Mchael] Thomas," writes Duncan, citing Callaway's position in the offense. Callaway has been the subject of plenty of hype in the wake of Thomas' ankle surgery and Tre'Quan Smith's latest leg injury. The second-year UDFA out of Tennessee, Callaway has spent time as an understudy in New Orleans who received extended looks on offense last season when Thomas was initially hurt, catching 21 passes for 213 scoreless yards as a rookie. Callaway's fantasy ADP is on the rise and looks like the Saints wideout to roster early in the year.

Saints signed K Brett Maher.
Maher, 31, will fill in for Wil Lutz while he misses the next couple months recovering from core-muscle surgery. Maher is the lone kicker on the roster now. He kicked for Dallas from 2018-2019, but this will be his fifth team since then.

Not a chance you get that much I wouldn't think given his contract and the injury. Reckon youre probably looking at a mid to late second if you dont trade for a player.

Fit, he's the best WR in the game and the surest hands in the NFL.
But who knows, might go all diva (which isn't a stretch for him) this season and be poor, giving the saints and him terrible options moving forward.

Im not doubting the talent, just all this issues that go along with him. Raiders paid a 3rd and 5th for AB who had no injury issues whilst being diva also (albeit even Thomas isn't as big of one as AB was in his prime) .
