Prediction New player jumper numbers for 2019

I might be on my own here however i am sick of seeing the number 1 in mothballs - as the "people's number" it has run it's course and would like to see it back in action.

With that being said, I would ask Harry Morrison to wear it as a respectful tribute to his god father and Hawthorn premiership player and former coach - the late Ken Judge.

I’m with you. Bring back the 1.

I was hoping to see a long sleeve 1 running around again. Give it to Wingard.

That said I like the sentiment of Morry getting it.

Most fans want this. But the club’s being stubborn on this one.

I've said it a few times before, the club has really painted themselves into a corner with the whole #1 is for the fans thing. Eventually they'll have to hand it out and then when they do it looks like "oh, guess the fans aren't number 1 to the club any more..." A bit of a zero-sum PR stunt.

There hasn't been much said about the whole #1 is for the fans piece from the club for years now. Surely it's long forgotten by the majority of Hawks fans (not really anyone in here though. We're all a bit more obsessed with the club lol) and they can hand it out again and we can all just move along without incident.

On that note...

1 - Scully
5 - Morrison
8 - Wingard
13 - Scrimshaw
20 - Moore
Worpel to keep 38.
Rest of the numbers handed out sequentially based on drafting order - maybe even 33.

Does anyone think that Mitchell Lewis might get the number 2 jumper number at the end of next season when Roughead retires?

Assuming there are no more delistings and that those nine out of contract players are all still going to be at the club next year. What I’d like to see:

5 Harry Morrison
8 Tom Scully
13 Jack Scrimshaw
20 Chad Wingard
21 James Worpel
33 Irving Mosquito*
34 Conor Glass

Worpel will keep 38. As a traditionalist, I like it when a player keeps his original number

Available jumper numbers as of 29th October

5
8
11
13
20
21
33
34

Will be some kids getting upgrades off the back of this, which is always fun. Nash, Morrison, Worpel (if he wants it - 38 was his junior number) and Moore might get new ones. Just get Moore out of the bloody 36.

Worpel and Morrison the clear standouts. There will be a lot more higher numbers freed up over the next two seasons with plenty of retirements coming up. I have a feeling that Mitchell Lewis will be given the number 2 jumper when Roughead retires.

Couldn't agree more and perfect player to wear it.

You're not on your own, not issuing #1 serves no purpose other than annoying people. Former players love to see their old numbers being displayed on the field match day, and I feel sorry for the old players who wore the number.

My personal interest is I used to wear #1 (not at Hawthorn) and my favourite Hawks player of all time, Peter Hudson, wore #1 when he returned to the Hawks for one season in 1977. Also, from the point of view of someone who keeps player records, it's annoying to see that blank space next to #1.

Your suggestion for Harry Morrison wearing the jumper as a tribute to Ken Judge is a good one. You'd hope the "family club" may agree on this one.

The absence of #5 from 1976 to 1992 is understandable in terms of what Peter Crimmins meant to the club, but to not issue #1 since 2010 really makes no sense whatsoever.

I remember people getting hysterical like this about #15.

As much as I also love the bloke, #33 isn't Cyril's number mate, he was just the custodian for a few years.

This is it. The club could honour 33 by making it available to the most promising indigenous player maybe, but there's no reason not to issue it.
