The logo is fine. Pretty versatile.

I am not fully against a red on red guernsey, my longterm Port concept is a black on black (or charcoal on black) prison bar design. But if it's totally invisible, why bother?

I need to see it on field before I can make a decision. I feel like the combo of yellow and red was the best part of their brand and it's weird to move away from it. It's not like Freo where green and red were superfluous.

The green and red on Freo's jumper were a nod to the Italian community in Freo and surrounds

Nice, I just assumed it was just port and starboard but little nods are always nice. Still, superfluous for the brand ultimately it was the right decision to drop them.

I'd argue yellow is far more integral to the Suns brand.

Just.. the more I look at it the more issues I find with it.
I think it's trying to be too clever and versatile for its own good.
Like, usually if you're looking at a logo that represents multiple design elements, when you focus on its different parts you can get it to appear as any one of those elements, but here if you stare at it just kind of becomes this jumbled mess vaguely resembling the sum of its parts.
None of the letters that the logo creates is a good stylisation of that letter. It is mostly an S, vaguely a G and a C but none of them are particularly good shapes on their own.
As a football it has a giant hole in it. As a sun it is in front of the water
But the biggest issue of all is when it's scaled down your eye immediately goes to the negative space. It is not a creative use of negative space, rather an overpowering one. You basically just see a giant blank circle.

I actually hate this logo. I genuinely cannot remember ever disliking a logo as much as this. Maybe the 2012 - 2018 Miami Marlins logo.
It is a rare mix of offensive and banal.

The bar was at their feet and they still managed to smack their chin on it.

The logo just feels so uninspired. I don't think, if I were a GC fan, I'd be proud to wear that logo on merch. It feels lazy I guess. I can't think of the words I want for how I feel but I'm super disappointed in what they put out.

The jumper is um, just a red jumper. That's not so bad. The logo isn't needed.

Just so under whelming.

Edit: I do like the Suns text though. That is good.

The "S" Suns? Where is this football team from? They're emphasising the "Suns" part of the brand by using "S" - that they're already emphasising with the wordmark "SUNS". This is insanity and just incredibly dumb.

Anyway, here's what I could mock up in a 5 mins with what they pooped out, a logo for the GOLD COAST Suns.

Not to mention - in all the branding they seem to be emphasising the wordmark now with the logo being tucked away to the side, except for the fact the wordmark isn't unique or interesting enough on its own to be worth emphasising. It's literally just Eurostile Bold Extended to promote a vague nostalgic/vintage feeling. Anybody can use this font today, they didn't even bother they just bought the license to use the font commercially and revolved the whole brand around that.

I was in the briefing session last night. the reason why there's no gold coast in the logo is because people already associate our club with being from the gold coast, so they wanted to build a strong brand around the suns. they mentioned GWS, and how they pivoted their brand away from greater western sydney, since no-one associates themselves from being from greater western sydney, they say they're from Parramatta or Blacktown, etc. GWS only has the G and Giants in their logo as that's the brand they want to push and be known as, so similarly for the suns there wasn't a strong need to keep the gold coast in the primary logo. they did show some other variants of the logo that do include gold coast in it that they can use from time to time.

Cool, do you care to explain why you think the logo is bad? It's so easy for one to say "this logo is good" and "this logo is bad" because anyone can just say their opinion aloud. I am not arguing in opinion, beauty is subjective but design is not. Design is creating something with a stated goal our purpose, and if that is not achieved then that design is by nature is bad. The Suns (now former) logo is objectively good. Sure there is much room for improvement, but it communicates the location of which it represents; vibrant colours and overall 'surfy' aesthetic undeniably captures the essence of the idealised Gold Coast/Surfers Paradise area.

This rebranded logo in my opinion looks good, but as we see it is already failing in its application and so objectively it is a bad logo and by proxy a bad brand.

Gold Coast was always going to br a tough sell, but I thought the approach with the lifeguard colours was a strong one.

The logo completely missed by looking nothing like a football logo, which I felt was imperative in a non-footy market.
They also made a stupid decision by going with 'Suns' as the mascot. It doesn't lend itself to a strong image, again from a sporting perspective in Australia. To make it even worse, rather than include something that actually looks like a Sun, they created what looked like a Sports Tonight logo with zero personality or memorable qualities.

In saying all of this, I actually like the new logo because I can see exactly what they were going for.
Still to this day I scratch my head about what they were trying to achieve with the original design.
