Situational pass rusher only according to GG :moustache:
Look, I scouted him pre-draft, and drafted him and/or waivered him in most my leagues, but he never held down a three down role at the Bengals, despite him being a beast off the edge in pass rush situations. Eventually I had to focus on having DEs who saw tons of action. Thruout his Bengals career he occupied a situational pass rush role. Hence. Maybe Saleh can coach him up better, but he was what he was at the Bengals.

Bengals never gave him the opportunity, hell become a Justin Houston type undersized 3 down DE under Saleh imo.

They gave him plenty, coaches see it in training every week. He wasnt stout against the run. In the NFCN it is always a black and blue division, need to be hard nosed against the run. I guess they just focused on using him for his strengths...situational pass rush downs and to relieve gassed starters. I hope he has a beastly season at the Jets.

The Bengals' coaches suck. Saleh turned nobodies into good players with the 9ers.

Hard to unseat Carlos Dunlap all those years. Lewis wasnt a scrub coach. Jets needed a lot of work improving their edge rushers in the off season. Lawson is a great get, they still need more or coach one of the unknowns on the depth chart up to a surprise star. Lawson helps alot tho.

Franklin-Myers will be the surprise that Saleh takes to another level imo.

Jets coach Robert Saleh said second-round rookie WR Elijah Moore (quad) will receive an MRI following Thursday's practice.
He fortunately walked back to the locker room (with a trainer) under his own power following a hard landing in practice Thursday. Moore has destroyed Jets camp as the universal standout to this point of the summer. Fantasy managers and the organization are collectively holding their breaths awaiting the results of his MRI.

Joe Walton, Head Coach Who Took Jets To Playoffs Twice In 1980s, Dies At Age 85

Former New York Jets head coach Joe Walton has died. He was 85.

His passing was announced Sunday by Robert Morris University, where Walton was head football coach from 1994-2013.
Walton went 53-57-1 over seven seasons as Jets head coach, guiding them to the playoffs in 1985 and 1986. His regular season win total is second only to Pro Football Hall of Famer Weeb Ewbank in Jets history.

Walton was fired following a 4-12 season in 1989.

“Joe Walton poured his heart into this franchise for nine seasons,” the Jets said in a statement. “Joining us as an offensive coordinator before taking over as the head coach, Joe fielded some of the franchise’s most productive offenses and helped the teams to four playoff appearances during his tenure.

“He was a good man who cared for his players and loved the game of football.”

Prior to getting the top job with the Jets, Walton was the team’s offensive coordinator under Walt Michaels from 1981-82. He also served as an offensive assistant with the New York Giants (1969-73), Washington Redskins (1974-80) and Pittsburgh Steelers (1991-92).

As a player, Walton was a star tight end at the University of Pittsburgh. He was drafted in the second round in 1957 and played the next four seasons with the Redskins before moving on to the Giants from 1961-64. He finished his NFL career with 178 receptions, 2,628 yards and 28 touchdowns.

Jets DE Carl Lawson was carted off the field Thursday.
It was reportedly a grizzly scene, causing players and coaches alike to drop to a knee and begin praying as the cart came out for him. Signed to a three-year, $45 million contract in free agency, Lawson, 26, was inarguably penciled in as New York's most dynamic pass rusher, finishing with the fourth-most pressures at the EDGE position last year. NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported that Lawson felt a pop, with concern that he may have suffered a season ending Achilles tear. He'll receive an MRI on his lower leg immediately.
