Hawks-Cats has kind of existed for a long time but it simmered for a fair while before 2008. Got to boiling point for a while during the Kennett Curse and the 2013 prelim but only simmering again now.

Cats-Pies if we are talking regular finals meetings, thrillers, grand finals and some side stories - Pies inexplicably belting us by 15 goals on 2008 when we went 21-1, Cats beating them 3 times in a season where no one else managed it at all etc - it’s gotta be up there

Brisbane and Melbourne. Rivalry brewing.
Disagree as a Lions supporter. If not us I'd much, much rather they win it than Collingwood or Port Adelaide.

When we beat them last year in week 2 of the finals there were no sore loser dees fans, their fans just approached me and congratulated us on being the better team, and I haven't had a dees fan rub it in after Friday's debacle. Collingwood on the other hand kept sooking non-stop about 02 and 03 for about 15 years, and I know as a fact that if we ever lose to them in a grand final I'll never ever hear the end of it.

To be fair our season was cooked and we all knew it. I personally was just happy i didin't have to watch us get smashed by the cats in the prelim.

Has been a rivalry for a long time. Kochie and Eddie, 1870 vs 1997, 37 vs 15 and the prison bars plus the Magpies. We all know this

It hasn’t been very good in terms of games was my point. A few GFs in a row or something would make it not boring. It’s getting stale.

It's more a players rivalry as there's a lot of dislike between the current Lions and Demons playing groups.
We saw a similar thing a decade ago with the Cats and Dockers. There was an interview with Harry Taylor back then where he said the Dockers are the side the Cats players hate the most, and the rivalry died out once most of the players from that era had retired.

Obviously the rivalry already exists but I think we’re in for a few years of some cracking showdowns.

Adelaide are on the way up and have a very strong forward line and are building nicely.

Port have a very exciting midfield and decent forward line which has proven it can score. Admittedly we will need to address our defence.

Although showdowns are generally close, it seems usually we are on opposing sides of the 8.

Going forward, could see both SA clubs pushing the 4 for a number of years and we will get some absolutely crackers in there twice a year.

Is there a rivalry between Port and North?
Or is there only heat between the fans because of Horne-Francis?

I don’t think anyone can build a rivalry with a club that’s in Norths position the past few years.

Maybe when we start getting some close games but not when it’s an easy win.

Brisbane v Collingwood could very well be reignited over the next few years, starting this finals campaign. Lions certainly friendly with Melbourne either at the moment.

Carlton v Collingwood will be massive though if both sustain finals success over the next 3-5 years at the same time.

Nah. When Gawnie went down at the GABBA a couple of Lions went to the Dees changeroom to see him during the blackout. Don’t think there’s much heat there at all.

Two teams in a similar position though who’d expect to be up for a while.
