Davies had a great season last season but has regressed pretty significantly this season. Hopefully can bounce back, but his technique combined with his temperament or lack of worries me. Think he has been figured out a bit.

Prior to his test debut McSweeney had averaged 46.8 in his previous 50 FC innings across shield, Aus A etc. Perhaps not dominating but still going quite well over a decent period of time.
Davies has an ability to score big. Every good player is dropped or has a form slump at some point or another

(connoly has played 2/4 FC games this season)
Albeit because he busted his hand representing the country, otherwise he'd be 4/4.

Not sure where Connolly fits into things but the kid has had a knack of rising to the level. He'll get a chance in the next 18-24 months if he doesn't fall off a cliff somehow.

The test side needs rejuvenation and there could be a 10 year player in Connolly.

The three mentioned above

Konstas
Davies
Connolly

from a technique point of view all have some challenges

Konstas and Connolly both have split grips which is not norm. To compensate they need to have a real good eye as they tend to be bottom hand dominant players and a but susceptible to the ball leaving them. Conversely the split grip enables you to ramp the ball and play reverse sweeps.

Konstas also has a pretty big gap between his bat and pad, only Davies has a bigger one.

Normally you would say you wouldn’t want these blokes batting high in the order and Davies certainly doesn’t and in years gone by you would rarely get a Test batting gig batting at 6 for your state.

I had an interesting chat with a current commentator and former Test batting gig at the Cricket on Sunday. He rolled his eyes when he asked what I thought of Konstas’ technique.

Interesting times ahead.

I mis represented but Steve Hogan who is from Queensland as a prodigious talent alongside Ollie Peake from Victoria as the two from that next generation.

Ollie Peake is generational imho, im talking Ricky Ponting, Michael Clarke, Phillip Hughes generational talent. Maybe not at that billing (yet) but that top, top tier talent levels

I didn't realise this, apologies

Tbh i was never convinced by Phil Hughes and I have a similar view on Konstas…purely from a technical view.

I am all chips in on Peake

Hughes scored hundreds for fun. I had full faith that he would have ended up in the 10,000 test runs club

Peake (and Hogan) appear generational talents

Keep an eye out for Hugh Weigben from QLD. Captained the under nineteens Australia side. Averaging seventy five in grade cricket this season after having a few setbacks. I’d be expecting him to debut for the Bulls after the Big Bash.

Hope so. Keen to see how he goes.
I wasn't as convinced by him as Konstas, Dixon and Peake but clearly a talent.

Vidler is the one I can't wait to see come through.

Yeah I think there’s a decent crop of young quicks coming through. They’ll be ready to play soon but we’ve gotta keep them fit.

Wylie and Peake are the 3 I look at and think that they just have a stack of time. Weigben looks to have killer temperament from what I have seen from him, he’s unflappable.

Konstas has time and an eye like a dead fish, remains to be seen how he goes when he just bats normally.

Redbacks recruiters will be going HARD!

The running joke is that at the U19 national championships the SA coaching staff are there to watch the other teams

Yeah the QLD set up don’t seem to have a club. They let McSweeney, Doggett go to SA. Just horrendous management

Id be going hard at recruiting Dixon from Vic for next season if he cant break into the team after the BBL finishes up.

There’s a clear role for him as we need another opening bat and he wouldn’t have much competition for spots, so he’d be given plenty of opportunities.

Hunt
Dixon
McSweeney
Sangha

Looks a more dangerous top order.
