SM get the easy win

Lowers latest recruit is an ammo 2’s player

The club is still trying to suck the life out of research.

FYI plunkett decided to no reapply as the club is a basket case.

Tags a club legend thought he was coaching twos in 2024 but got replaced a couple of weeks ago by a guy who couldnt get a job there in 23…
Research are their feeder team so why wouldn’t they do that??

Not sure all that is correct but it's fun getting all angry at a Club on the internet.

I reckon Lower will surprise a few, won't make finals but will be 6, 7 or 8 IMO. From what I have read they have recruited OK and brought a few back and at the pub last week I heard a few more to come.

Plunkett I am sure thought he was going to be reappointed. If he was in such demand, where is he this year?

Tags is a Lower legend. Has to be close to 300 games and always given heaps to the Club. I am sure they will have a role for him. Maybe thinking is not his go?

And as was said, Research is their junior club so they should be sucking the life out of them, what do you want them to do, say no?

Who’s your relegation tip? Laurimar is comfortably better than Lower id say.

Who do they jump? Watsonia? NP?

Honestly dunno and don't have a dog in this fight at all just an observer but I am thinking 2023 was a blemish on a side club that was comfortably top 3 or Div1 for years. Totally new coaching team and with from what I have been told (and saw at one game in 23) very decent Knights players that all I have heard are playing full time and a few new signings and some coming back (and maybe 1 or 2 more) I think they will win enough to stay up.

You say Laurimer is comfortably better than Lower, well we are 3 months from finding out.

It was a blemish, but a blemish because of all the quality the left the club.

I’d expect improvement as you said their knights players available regularly. Lucky to survive relegation so wouldn’t want to do that again

I wouldn’t be basing anything on last year. There has been change across the board from the top down, some of the wheels were put in motion last season and will bare fruit from now.

I’d expect a R1 senior team that may share personal, with decent change from 23 but far fitter, skilled, structured and with a hell of a lot more enthusiasm and belief. Not my department but I’d expect more names to be added at some stage. Ciaran Porter alone will be like a new recruit after missing a fair chunk and Patty Flynn’s is looking the fittest and sharpest since 2018.

So let’s enjoy Xmas and see what Santa brings🤙

Heidelberg West coach Dale Mayne discusses recruiting and replacing Lachie Evans

With NFNL Division 3 league best-and-fairest winner Lachie Evans departing, Heidelberg West has some big boots to fill. New coach Dale Mayne discusses his strategy.

Heidelberg West has some big shoes to fill in 2024.

Filling the hole left by NFNL Division 3 league best-and-fairest-winning ruckman Lachie Evans was one of new coach Dale Mayne’s top priority.

New arrival Jacob Smith looms as the first-choice replacement, while the Hawks are confident of signing another big man before the new season.

Smith crosses from Division 1 club Macleod, where he was limited to just four reserve grade games this season after three senior matches in 2022.

Mayne said the change would give the Hawks a new dynamic.

“We’ve got young Jacob Smith from Macleod, who’s a promising tall with Division 1 experience. We feel like he’s a good recruit for us,” Mayne said.

“Lachie has been a terrific player for West but we feel like we can spread the load to balance out his loss.

“The team will have a different dimension without the one dominant ruckman.”

Rumours of three-time league best-and-fairest Jarryd Coulson’s return at this stage appear wide of the mark.

It has been a strong off-season for West, which has put together one of the strongest recruiting classes in a fierce Division 3 arms race.

Banyule premiership player and 2023 club reserve grade best-and-fairest winner Michael Italia has jumped on board and experienced Division 1 midfielder James Condello has arrived from Macleod, along with fellow Kangas Liam Wanders and Dalton Doherty.

Jordan Vellios returns to Heidelberg Park after a year off, while youngster Mitch Thompson was an Division 1 Under-19s premiership winner at Banyule in 2022.

Mayne said the new recruits were driving higher standards and would give the club critical depth.

“We targeted good leaders as well as good players, to drive the standards, we want a culture of earning your spot,” he said.

“We’ve had around 70 different players train, so we feel we’re in a good position.

“They’ve thrown themselves in the program really well and with our existing players we feel like we’re going to have a lot of depth.

“It’s an exciting time for us because the Division 3 competition looks like it’s going to be strong and show we can be competitive in every game we play.

“We have a lot of guys that have been mates for a long time, it’s a special place like that, and I feel we should tap into that mateship and it should drive success on the ground.

“Everyone is hungry for success, they realise with the team we’re putting together we have an opportunity to push into finals.”

Mayne takes the senior coaching reins for the first time, replacing Michael Missen.

The experienced junior and senior assistant coach said he’d long kept tabs on Heidelberg West and when the opportunity came he jumped.

The spectre of the club’s long finals drought would have no impact on his expectations for 2024.

“I’ve coached some of the players in the past, so I’ve always had a keen interest in Heidelberg West has gone,” he said.

“Looking at senior opportunities, I wasn’t throwing my name around everywhere, I just through it would be a good fit.

“I sat down with the committee and we had some good conversations and we thought we’d be a good fit for each other and so far it’s looking good

“When I spoke to the committee, I said I’m not worried about the past.

“It’s a new season, it’s a new comp, we’re just looking forward.

“All our planning and our messaging is about looking forward, not backwards.”

Heidelberg West has been drawn to play newcomers Old Paradians at Garvey Oval in Round 1 on April 6.

New Kinglake coach David Florance discusses Lakers’ list, recruiting

After an impressive return to the NFNL in 2023, new Kinglake coach David Florance is confident the club will remain strong in a red-hot Division 3 in 2024.

Kinglake believes a blend of experience and youth will keep it in NFNL Division 3 premiership contention in 2024.
In their return to the league this year, the Lakers stunned the competition by winning nine of their first 10 games and finishing third before bowing out in an elimination final.

The Lakers will be under new management next season with David Florance taking the reins at Memorial Oval from Andrew Fairchild.

The North Heidelberg premiership player and Diamond Creek grand final assistant coach was under no illusion as to the challenge with a Division 3 arms race this off-season.

However, Florance was confident with the talent at his disposal and some soon-to-be announced recruits, Kinglake would remain a force.

“The list is very exciting, it’s a good mixture of older, more experienced players who have played a high standard of football and some younger kids coming through,” he said.

“We’ve got a couple of irons in the fire and we’ve picked up a couple already.

“There’s a few that we’re giving a chance to talk to the people they need to and a couple that have signed already that we’ll announce in the next week or so.

“It’s a good mix of experience and talent as well as some younger players coming through that will bolster the club moving forward.

“Hopefully that will create some excitement and buzz around the club which will get some others that were umming and ahhing to bite the bullet and drag a few others through the door.

“There’s a lot of clubs that have recruited well.

“Last year was pretty tight at the top so it’s going to be an exciting year with some big names coming into the competition.”

Kinglake has retained the bulk of its list.

Matt Coen and Matt Langford have returned to Division 2 club Whittlesea.

Elliot Kynaston is the only confirmed recruit at this stage, arriving from Kyabram District club Avenal.

Florance said there was a strong group of young players coming up to help an establish core of veterans.

“One of the first questions I asked Clint (president Clint Robinson) was what’s it like with player retention,” he said.

“If you take the top-end out in terms of age, a half a dozen there, the average age would be 21-22, which is exciting for the club given there’s no under-19s there at the moment.

“It gives me a lot to work with and as you know coming in as a new coach there’s no preconceptions about anyone.

“While I’ve got a good handle and understanding, it gives people a fresh chance to show their wares at other positions and get opportunities.”

Kinglake’s impressive return to the Northern league saw skipper Bailey Robinson, Damian Pywell and Leigh Gilbert recognised with Team of the Year honours.

Robinson and Gilbert finished fourth and sixth respectively in the league best-and-fairest, while Robinson also placed seventh in the Coaches’ MVP.

Kinglake will kick off 2023 at home against Fitzroy Stars on Saturday, April 6.

Laurimar haven’t done much this off season, can they fight lower plenty off to stay up?

Another returning lower player on board.

Maybe they are comfortable in what they are doing that they don’t feel it necessary to tell the world.

Clearly NP will be fighting off all other teams for the bottom.

In my comp, very few teams promote their new recruits. Old Carey are the exception (3rd Divi) who have been heavily promoting.

It depends on what is important to a Club. All are different.

I know I would prefer promoting activity to ensure players, members and sponsors see positive movement and change and are ready for Rd1 with a bit of excitement and willing to spend or invest $$.

Or wait until Thursday night before Rd1 and announce changes.

Each can work.

Really Think NP could go down?

There are other big men out there they may be trying to sign than Coulson?

Laurimar to go back down

I’d be shocked if that was to occur.

Matt Ryan is a good pick up and seemed to have signed all their key players. They are a young side and will only improve. Not to mention have ok depth.

Besides the top 2-3 sides D2 is bloody ordinary atm. I’d take Laurimars list over NP, Watsonia, LP atm.

Division 2 is easily the one I'm least interested in at the moment. Division 1 and Division 3 have definitely had the more interesting player movements and recruiting. OP and Ivanhoe additions to D3 on top of that as well.

I’ve heard that Laurimar aren’t overly confident and some guys may not play!
