His Dad was an excellent set shot goal kicker and proficient on both legs in general play also (but not to Tex level on his left)

Are we seeing Welsh as a third tall option eg a Gollant type? That was his Dads physique and forwards have only got (much) bigger overall in recent years. If so, Tex leaving in 2-3 years still means we may need to find a replacement type so not totally dependent on The Fog, TT and a third tall

I cant see why Tex doesnt play for at least 2 more years at this stage as his skills and kicking are as great as ever. He provides ongoing leadership in the forward line and if he is the '6th string' forward in a big final he is capable of still kicking a bag. So hopefully Tex goes on until end of 2025 and finishes with the ultimate prize as we should be right in the zone that year.
Jack Darling would be a decent outcome talent wise for young Tyler.

Interesting there's no mother-son access.
are there defined rules as yet though? or too early in the games infancy? ie Even Erin Phillips with young twins as possibly the oldest player in the league would only have kids aged around 4-5 years of age. She fitted them in the first premiership cup photo at Metricon back in 2017 in that ripping game - were you there Mostyn as was a truly exciting game and Erin kicked an absolute cracking goal in the first couple of mins and said to my brother at the time 'she is as close to any female athlete that could ever compete in the mens comp IMO'

Chelsea would go alright on a HBF....

So long as he grows an extra 3cm or so he will be tall enough to play key forward. That's the type of player he is, lead up and contested marking is his strength.

He's not as a good as a kick as his dad, at least not yet.
His field kicking is very good however, not unlike Tex. So it could be mental and routine that can improve drastically in an AFL environment.
Given we have him in our academy I hope Tex is already giving him some pointers.
thanks man, thats a very exciting statement

Scott Welsh’s goal kicking was a bit hit and miss early in his AFL career with NM and the Crows but became very reliable with time. A bit like Jay Schulz who was an erratic goal kicker at Richmond but accurate at Port.

Note Welsh has been selected for the state U18s in their practice match as an under ager.

That’s what we call a very good sign
On the interchange bench made up of mostly underagers.

Be a good test if he lines up on Zack Becker or Shaun Bennier at CHF. Both strong bodied defenders. Shaun Bennier a bit stiff not to get drafted last year IMO.

When's the game and is it televised anywhere

South Australia’s finest talent under the age of 20 will be on display at Thebarton Oval tomorrow night when the Torrens University SA U18 team confronts the SA U20 line-up.

Kicking off at 7pm, the clash will be another vital contest for the SA U18s ahead of the AFL National Championships while the U20 combination have an opportunity to shine in front of AFL scouts.

Newly-appointed Torrens University SA U18 captain Will Patton, having returned from AFL Academy duty, will lead his team for the first time, starting in defence.

Fellow Academy members Jack Delean, Ashton Moir and Kane McAuliffe also return for the Croweaters, who will again be coached by SANFL’s Tony Bamford.

To be coached by Sturt reserves premiership coach Chris Trapp, the SA U20 combination will be captained by Eagles midfielder Adam D’Aloia with West Adelaide ball magnet Kobe Ryan as his deputy.

Several players boasting Hostplus SANFL League experience will be pushing their claims, including Glenelg’s Archie Lovelock and Lewis Rayson, West’s Cade Kennedy and Eagles pair D’Aloia and Will Pearce.

An MVP medal will be awarded to the best player for each team while the match will be exclusively live streamed with commentary on The Advertiser’s KommunityTV.

They're easily 2 of the highest rated Croweaters at this point, fair indication when both are in the State U18 squad as underagers.
I was just commenting on the report, which raved about Ashcroft - but did little more than name drop Welsh & Burgoyne in the last paragraph.
