As well as his athletic highlights, I very much enjoyed the physicalness he brough. Recent highlights were the time he smashed Karl Amon in a great tackle (even though he got suspended for not calculating the weight differential) and when Zach Merrett pulled his hair on the boundary so Nic choke slammed him.
Watching old highlights packages just reminded me what a magnificently violent footballer Nic was at his peak. He's a lovely guy off the field and in no way a thug or sniper on it, but damn he loved to crunch any fool who underestimated him. It was beautiful to watch.

Fmd can the year get any worse? Bunga, Boots and now Nic Nat on the back of a hundred point loss to the purples. On a positive - thanks for the memories, I'll forever remember these three champions.

Not gonna lie. I shed a tear or two. I’ve had time to accept I’d never see him play footy again but my heart broke in two when it dawned on me Nic never got the chance to play with his mates one last time.

He gave footy everything he had, loved his teammates and the club so much and sadly his body couldn’t get over the last hurdle after clearing so many before it.

I’ll forever miss the big guy and wish I could tell him how much watching him play meant to me, all the kids in WA and the Eagles faithful.

Thanks for everything Nic. 💙💛#9

Shuey, Hurn and Nic Nat 100% straight into the Hall of Fame for the club.

Nic Nat might not have the premiership that most in that class have but his impact on the club on and off the field has been incredible.
Heard him described a few times today as a 2m Cyril that could just do whatever he wanted on the ground and it's not far from the truth.
Loved his attack on the ball and on the opposition and you could just see when he was loading up for a hanger.

Will never be another like him (unless his kids come through in about 17 years time).

Heartbroken.

He’s been my favourite eagle for such a long time. I know it’s time, but it’s still hard to know we won’t see him again.

Up there with Buddy I think for athleticism’s crossed with the pure x factor. You just never knew what he’d do next. Pure excitement factor.

His second game in the pouring rain vs the hawks where he kicked those goals.. I have been to many matches since and I don’t think I’ve ever heard a loud a roar from such a small crowd.

Carried our midfield for so long, it’s such a shame he got those injuries right in his prime.

Regardless of it- he’s such a great guy off field, especially given his stature it would be so easy to strut around like he owns the place, or only take on engagements for large sums of money (cough cough Fyfe). But he’s given as much back and more to the club and footy here in WA and has been a great role model for so many kids over the journey.

Well done on an amazing career, Nic. You’ve done us all proud.

Sam Mitchell on AFL 360 today-

"Nic was such a unique player, I don't think there's anyone that the game has seen that played like him. I think he was so dominant for such a long period of time, and he was easily the hardest player to scout for my whole career, of any position, because he could do anything. I remember David Hale, who's one of our coaches now, and I remember the amount of debates and fights we had about how to nullify their centre bounce dominance year after year after year.

After going there I think I have an even greater appreciation, I don't think I've ever met anyone who's said a bad word about him. And his life is not very easy- he's a huge man with eye-catching great big hair. You get recognised in the street as a 5 foot 10 bloke, it's different to getting recognised as a 6 foot 7. Just the amount of people who recognise him and how big he is over there, to be able to do that as a genuine gentleman you have to tip your lid and be so impressed what he's been able to do on and off the field."

AFL 360 put naitanui's retirement with Paddy Mccartin on equal footing last night. Disgraceful

Suggest you avoid Whately atm or afl360 because there is a Whately mourning going on over media darling jack reiwoldt retiring… Nic hasn’t even gotten a mention

Love the guy. He seems like one of the genuinely good guys in life and they are rare. Absolute freak of a player when fit and brutal in the best of ways. Feel privileged to have watched him all these years. It's sad injuries plagued his career as we missed so much of his best but that made what we got all the sweeter. Kind of feel he will go on to bigger and better things and he is too marketable not to be gracing our screens in some way for years to come.

I remember in the early days my Docker mate running with the "over rated" line. A few years ago he said he was wrong and has never seen a more influential player play the game.
