Lol, you put a 30 game player in the same category as a cricketer who pretty much has an average double that of everyone else, and a 24 time gland slam champion .
Daicos had achieved more at 20 than those two at the same age. Only a matter of time. They said no one would catch Federer.

He would need to win 6 brownlows and 10 premierships to be in the same echelon of Novak or Bradman
Really?

Novak is only 2 or 3 Grand Slams ahead of the next best, and we need to remember Aussie Rules is a team game with 22 players taking to the field at any one time, and 40 players on a list...

Focussing on the 21st century initially:

His first thing to tick off in one upping all modern age midfielders would be 9 AAs and more than 10 cumulative Brownlow/League MVP/Coaches Association awards.

After that, leading the Brownlow and Coaches leaderboards would be handy pluses and 7 B&Fs wouldn't hurt. Maybe a splash of Norm Smith and Ayres award action to keep the Martin worshippers happy.

The good news is he is off to a spectacular start and probably has 12-16 seasons left.

Right, so we shouldn’t be worrying about the premierships then, yes?

nah. he's too weak in the contest. he's already squibbed some embarassing contests last season. His disposal numbers are irrelevant because the whole game plan centres around giving it to Daicos at all costs even if he isn't in a great position. Not to mention the kickouts.

Great foot skills though but not close to goat. Sheezel had a better debut season.

They're certainly a consideration, but not the full story.

The fact he returned from injury to be an influential player in two close finals, after being his team's best player throughout the home and away season until he got injured, must be a positive.

Remembering he's done this as a 20 year old.

In the same way that if Daicos had have been a non-factor in the finals series, and Collingwood lost a close final and were eliminated with him being a non-factor, it would have been a negative (even though some may have excused him as a result of his return from injury).

But I don't downgrade Lockett in my rankings because he didn't play in a flag, simply because the teams he played in were rarely in contention.

Shut it down. We don't want to go all "Soccer Mum" like the Richmond lemmings with Dusty. Nick's achieved nothing. Yet
We're not saying he's there already, we're tracking his career whilst he's a fighting chance to do so.

If he regresses for whatever reason, the thread will inevitably die off, but I'm hoping this will be a live discussion point for many years to come...

Correct, right now he's tracking towards GOAT, and as long as he's adding to those trophy cabinets every year it's a live discussion

Will need to see his % of goals relative to his team's total score while factoring in the opposition's total allowed score and then weigh that against the average % of goals relative to a player's teams total score of the era. And then carry the one.
You've signed up for this flawless criteria too? Welcome aboard!

If Collingwood run into a grand final opponent that is bad enough to score a single goal, and Daicos scores 3 of 5 Collingwood goals he would automatically become the greatest player of all time?

This sounds like a perfect way to measure greatness.

Let's just hope that the only Grand Finals he plays in are winning ones.

Because if he plays in any losing Grand Finals, that would be DISASTROUS for his legacy, regardless of how well he plays...

You get PLUS points for disappearing acts when your side is in the process of losing.

In fact Daicos two strong finals in wins by less than a goal won't cut it. These weren't "difference makers" in clutch conditions.

Move him forward to get 4 goals and 2 assists in a grand final Collingwood win by 100 points? THAT is what you need.

Just know that every finals series that Collingwood make for the rest of Nick's career will be counted as a blemish on his record if they don't go on to win the flag. Strike rates are everything when it comes to AFL GOAT discussion, or so I've been told. It's all downhill from here.

Nah, it's only losing Grand Finals.

He can lose as many Elimination Finals, Semi Finals, and Preliminary Finals as he likes - those in GOAT discussion get a free pass for them, particularly if there are 'extenuating circumstances'....

But it is even better if his team doesn't qualify for finals at all....

Also need to account for the combined weight of teammates carried. Divided by his own weight compared to other players in contention for the title of GOAT
