I think we’ve got more than enough developing inside mids with Macrae, Carmichael and Allen. I’m happy for Nick Daicos to develop his contested game, but he doesn’t need to hit the coal face. His outside run is more important.
Not sure where this concept that being an inside mid takes away from your outside game. So far from the truth it's not funny. Chris Judd at his absolute peak was arguably the most damaging player both inside and outside. Playing inside doesn't take away from your outside game, it makes you less predictable and able to influence the game in a complete fashion. You can also actually be inside and still be incredibly damaging with your disposal. See players like Simon Black and Sam Mitchell. Bottom line is, if you are good in traffic, winning your own footy and still being able to be damaging with your disposal because you are good under pressure and in crowded spaces is arguably the most elite skill a midfielder can have. It also means if your contested ball winning teammates are getting smashed it has no effect on your ability to influence the game, because you are never reliant on anyone to win the footy.

Still feels like people are giving him the excuse to play outside for his career, which he doesn't need. Keep pushing him to add strings to his bow, he shouldn't be boxed into being a certain type of player. He didn't win much contested ball, but there were a few situations where he was in the thick of the action today, and wasn't hesitating to put his body over the ball in heavily contested situations, so I'm seeing signs his contested game is developing (whether its a concerted effort since Nick has probably heard the noise about it who knows, but either way progression there is easily what I expect his primary focus to be over the next few years)

Doesn't kick torps outside 50 like his Dad. Dont know why I am being salty I love the Daicos family more than my own.

The comparisons to Judd are interesting.

Obviously different players, Judd's immense power and pack breaking were exactly what WC needed to complement the skill and run of Kerr and Cousins.

Daicos superb kicking and instant brain (superior to Judds already, although I doubt he'll be half the pack bull Judd was) are exactly what we needed, hence the similar instant impact.

Like Judd he seems to have pace and stamina and wonderful vision, and both cone into side surging up the ladder.

He had a couple of midfield rotations today, and several highly contested battles for possession. That doesn’t make him an inside mid though, just a player that does what’s needed when needed. Doubt he’ll ever replicate the grunt work of Tom Mitchell or Taylor Adams at the coalface though which is what my comment was based on. That we have other developing genuine inside mids ensures that’ll be sustained longer term. Happy for you to think otherwise.

We need a gold cast of Peter Daicos’s important parts outside the G to worship upon entry.

Josh is still my favourite player though.

Let's go one better. Let's ask him to donate a tub of sperm every month to inseminate the most athletic women out there and make some more Daici'

Not taking anything away from Nick but if it hadn't been for McCreery absolutely BULLING his way clear it might not have happened.

Now one of the most under rated forwards in the game.
Beau is progressively adding more strings to his bow.
His last quarter was a thing of beauty.

The burst is interesting. I don't think he would necessarily test out amazing in any sprint test results, but has some nice short space explosiveness happening that was not as evident last year. I don't think it was that evident in juniors either. It does make some of the GAJ comps a little more relevant if he makes that a more prominent part of his arsenal and could make him even more difficult to tag when they eventually move him to full time mid.

Except the problem with the dinky kicks you see from Pendles and Nick is they can and do get picked off with a bit of high level anticipation by a defender. You don't pick off Buckley's passes unless you are literally perfectly positioned as he kicks it. Calling his bullet passes an issue because professional footballers couldn't handle the speed at which the ball hit their chest made me laugh. I remember very well watching some very average Collingwood players inability to handle some of his kicks. And AFAIC none of the blame for that is on Buckley whatsoever. Give me his style of kicking all day every day. I think most players if asked would always prefer a bullet pass on the chest over a floater, even if perfectly timed and weighted. I certainly did when I played albeit at junior level.
We aren't going to a agree on that so let's move on.

Judd much better at grimacing.

He'll kill it in the centre square. We saw a taste of it in the second half against Brisbane. He won't be a battering ram like Adams, but he'll win contested footy at stoppages and use it better than anyone since Greg Williams. He's awesome in confined spaces.

Just a fun little tidbit...

Nick has been the #1 or #2 ranked Collingwood player in kilometres run in every game this year.

Sidey pipped him in a couple of matches. JDG equalled him in one. He's run the furthest in all the rest.

He ran the furthest of any player on the ground today. And he was still sprinting to the goalsquare when the siren sounded. And he looked like he could have run another 15km without breaking a sweat.

It's no fluke he's a jet. He's one of the absolute hardest workers in the business.
