Player Watch Nick Daicos

its not here, just opposition supporters, i dont want to post on the main board because all the opposition trolls will jump on and say sour grapes blah blah blah.
Tom Rockliffe posted a tweet with 4 Hawks players (all much bigger than him) pushing him around and choking him, then when he fell Rockliffe asked the question did Daicos dive lol. Pretty horrendous tweet from someone who should know better.

Daicos is going to be the most hated player in the game pretty soon for no reason other than the media has built him up. I am sure he will cope but its pretty s**t
Hope you will forgive the intrusion but I’m not sure any serious fan really dislikes Daicos. I think everyone at bottom realises how good he is. And they’ll all grudgingly admit it - once he retires!! It’s the same with every great player. Hope he recovers in time for the finals and you guys give it a good shot. I think it’s really you or the Dees now.

We're gonna look bloody slow without Nick Daicos getting it on the outside 30 times per game.

The midfield battle vs Geelong is a big concern. Dangerfield is gonna dance around Mitchell and Pendlebury like they're witches hats.

Gonna need Mcreery getting to the contest quickly to put some defensive pressure on

Very disappointing obviously, just need to make sure he's 100% before bringing him back.

While he might be our best player he doesn't really play a specific role yet and in that sense is not irreplaceable.

That also means we can work on getting the rest of our structure right and then add Nick back in because he's so good he can play anywhere.

If we can make a prelim and have him come back into the team, what a boost that would be.

I have a couple of thoughts on this.

Firstly, one thing I do hope is that we don’t take any risks with Nick to rush him back, even for the preliminary or grand finals if we make it. Also being a Storm fan in the NRL I’ve been following Ryan Papanhauzen’s return from a shattered knee cap and if there is any doubts that Nick’s kneecap is 100% I’d rather he miss the rest of the season than wind up with a similar injury to Papi.

Secondly, it’s worth noting that there are 7 weeks until Preliminary Final weekend and 8 weeks until Grand Final. If the 6 week time frame is in anyway realistic then we should see him again this season should we make it that far. The injury report this week should be more informative in this space.

Finally, if we are so reliant on Nick Daicos, that him being out could completely derail our season as the media and some fans are suggesting (I believe David King is suggesting that we may not win another game this season thanks to this injury) then we have bigger problems that Fly needs to address between now and next season. Because it is not a good situation for any team to be that reliant on one player.

They just said on fox that 6 weeks is an optimistic timeframe. Who knows tbh. Can’t run for a month apparently then increase loading
I think we need to wait for Jarrod Wade‘s injury report before getting to caught up in diagnosis. He’s good at being informative without being either too optimistic or to histrionic. He just gives the facts and explains it for a non medical person to understand. I feel we will know more regarding expectations on Nick’s recovery time frame.

Especially considering his age and work ethic which is second to none, I wouldn’t be surprised if he got back earlier.
Is it realistic, even it repaired quicker. Eg. I would have thought that he'd be on no weight bearing for a set number of weeks and then they'd he'd start gradually building up its loading for a couple of weeks.

It's Buckley 2.0 regularly voted most hated in the league. It's all because he is wearing black and white and one of the best players in the league (imo Bucks was the best in generation).

Settle down.

The Hawk bloke did exactly what you would want our defenders to do.
No you wouldn't. Significant bump after he marked by a bloke who wasn't making any attempt to compete for the footy. Don't know how it wasn't 50 and a certain goal. It wasn't outrageously dirty though - so I agree with that aspect.

I personally don't think we'll win another game either. But not because of Nick

Even if Nick wasn't injured I'd have thought the same.

We're just not playing very well and haven't been for some time

We are into this up to our eyeballs. You don't finish top of the ladder and suddenly lose your ability to compete for the remainder of the season. Fly needs to reset the boys and make some adjustments. We have the depth to cover Nick and IMO losing Nick makes us less predictable.

Yeah I have thought this for a while and I’m not trying to be negative either. I just hope we haven’t peaked too early and now we are starting to fatigue and struggle. Our older players looked cooked on the weekend. Moore making uncharacteristic mistakes all over the joint, mids we’re slow and one dimensional etc

Now that NAICOS is out I hope we don’t go into our shells and atleast put up a decent fight to win games. One player doesn’t make a team but by gosh he is still a big loss at the absolute worst time of the year too.

Apparently injured his knee against Port, hence his relatively poor form of late.
So who’s held to account for this? Is it the coaching staff? Is it Peter for wanting him to get the Brownlow? Did Nick not tell anyone? Someone needs to be held accountable for this. We have not managed this well at all and the writing has been on the wall for weeks that the kid needed a week or two for a rest. Great own goal!

It’s a collision/force injury, often from a hyperextension, someone falling across the leg etc, causing the tibia and femur to jack knife

Mccreery could do a job in there, we have lots to rub through there keep it fresh. Even Josh.

It’s “ only “ a hairline fracture so no risk of long term damage or reoccurrence. That’s a blessing in disguise to be able to shake some other niggles off while the club learns to adjust without him. Reckon he’ll be back for the QF. We just need to get there in strong form and with a home final because we desperately need that week off.

This injury is going to lift us. I can feel it.

Geezus. I don’t feel any lift.☹️

But it would be very Collingwood like to bounce back now. Especially under Fly. And especially if the media have turned against us.

Hell hath no fury like a Pies team scorned.

I think it's a blessing in disguise. We were getting over reliant on Nick to the point that if he doesn't fire or heavily tagged we can't win. If we can't cover a loss of one player, whoever he is - we are not worthy of a premiership. So let the other players lift and show they are genuine premiership contenders.
