The Blues met Haynes recently as they canvass options to shore up their tall defensive stocks, according to two well-placed sources speaking on condition of anonymity.
Haynes, one of just five foundation Giants left at GWS, has managed only seve
While it is too early to determine whether the Blues will go ahead and sign Haynes, their apparent interest in the 32-year-old – who jointly won the GWS best and fairest in 2020 (with Lachie Whitfield) and made All-Australian that year – is a measure of their view that they need to explore finding a tall back to support the outstanding Jacob WeiteringPLAYERCARDSTART6Lachie Whitfield

The appeal of Haynes to clubs lies in the fact he would come cheaply – zero draft cost and on relatively modest remuneration – and has a history as an elite intercepting defender with aerial prowess and football smarts. As a 32-year-old, he is better suited to a team in the premiership window, or one that has a desperate need to plug a hole in defence.
Amid a season where its defensive credentials have continually been questioned, Carlton “will land” an established veteran defender.
GWS defender Nick Haynes, at 32 years of age and in his 13th season, is considered a highly likely chance to play for the Blues next season.PLAYERCARDSTART19Nick Haynes

This is ridiculous
Why?
Do you think he will play AFL or just there for some depth and play VFL?
A gun in his prime, but the times I have seen him this year he has looked absolutely cooked. Extremely odd decision by Carlton unless it is for some kind of coaching hybrid role in the VFL. If it is with a view to have in him in the seniors team then it is pure desperation.
haynes would have absolutely 0 bearing on any decision re houstonthey may have realized they cannot get Houston due to not having enough to trade and not having any other options. So they've just taken what they can.
but you never know what could happen. New team, New coach, could envigorate him and get some more out of him than GWS could.
