Re: NIck stevens retires

I think quite a few people on the site dont give a flying f##k what you think.
He was a great player for our club. Stayed with us when we were shite when he could have gone to another club. To miss your brothers wedding to play football speaks volume's about his commitment to the club. Thanks Nick, hope everything goes well in the future.:)

boooo:thumbsdown:, Apparently you can't have an opinion on this here thread. When We were shite, he was part of the problem. Very smart bro, i know your playing but i'm still going to have a wedding on a day you can't make it. Anyway i'm over it, bag me all you like.

I Wasn't bagging you, I was bagging your thread. Sure you can have an opinion, but when you slag off a Carlton player surely you would have to expect some sort of negative reaction.

Youre missing the point mate.

Cant you at least wait for his body to get cold before you start laying the boot in?

I think I've found the problem

When Stevens played in that game instead of going to the wedding surely that showed his loyalty to the Blues. He was a great player before he hurt his neck. There was a time when he was our only good player.

Yes he wasn't the same when he came back, would you be the same after a life threatening injury? I think you might have a few more limitations too.

If you don't want to get bagged then don't post uninformed, way off the mark rubbish and show a bit of respect to a bloke who busted his arse and risked his life for the club.

I call bullshit . I have probably missed 3 games in the last 7 years. I can tell you for a fact , that my opinion is not uninformed but probably the opposite. I say this with a heavy heart , I honestly think he could have been top ten in league material, but footy was a pay packet to him, not a religion. If anything you are uninformed.

Congratulations on a great career Nick. You just have to wonder how much of an impact that neck injury had in his playing days, given that he just couldn't give us the same output as he once did.

All the best in the future - a good time to grow the landscaping business.

If it was jsut a pay packet the why the f##k would he come back knowing full well he could end up in a wheel chair. If it was just a pay packet he could have retired a whild ago and still got his "pay packet", but he decided to play on. If that doesn't show commitment then I dont know what does.

Who exactly would he have bumped out of the top 10? Funny how most of the guys in these top 10s have successful teams to help them out anyway isn't it.

If footy was just a pay packet why didn't he stay at Port? If footy was not a religion why did he come back from a life threatening neck injury to risk his life every week for two years?

You don't believe he risked his life despite however many hundreds of times it's been reported and I'm uniformed?

He was our best player and gave his all for the team before his neck injury, some people have very short memories.

Re: NIck stevens retires

He'll die the death of a thousand cuts each time he watches us in the future. As Ratts said he deserved a better finale after all his efforts across 2 clubs. Hats off, Stevo. :thumbsu:

Speak for yourselves. I wont comment on his Cartlon career but he probably got all the success he deserved from our perspective.

When we were shite, he was a lone hand in the midfield doing all the work...

I has only been since his neck injury that he hasnt been elite and one of our top midfielders.

Getting back on topic, Best of luck for the future mate... I hope that the neck sorts itself out and you have a decent quality of life for the rest of yours.

Sad to see him go, as it is for all those who persevered through the darkest days only to not be a part of the bright future.

Still would have provided something with his silky skills and danger forward of centre, particularly with the focus shifting to others. Gotta feel for him.

Best of luck in the future, Nick - sad to see that you never got a proper farewell. :thumbsu:

I have never been a fan of Nick and he just didnt do anything for me when i saw him play and seemed to light it up against the weaker teams and lacked to much accountability for mine.

He had good skills dont get me wrong and was good service for us when we were down and i do wish him all the best and hope he has a successfull after footy career.

It is just my opinion of his footballing abilities take it how you like and i do honestly think he could of been a lot better footballer with the amount of talent he had.

Thanks for the years of service Nick. :thumbsu:

Fair call, Corey. Weak prick had the temerity to leave for Melbourne when we all know your light industrial home town of West Geelong had it all. Crazy stuff.

Wrong! Do not pass Go! The closest thing he got to elite is with P.A., Yeah showed some glimpses of what he was capable of and no doubt played some blinders but I would never term him Elite. He won't be remembered as a Carlton Great nor should he. What years was he doing all the work by the way?

Last year, Stevens acknowledged his decidedly trimmer shape had been a result of cutting back on his drinking.

:eek:Wow the dedication of the man:cool:

I think you might be on you own there champ.

And finally, there is a reason he never made captaincy!and was put back to the seconds this year.In the past he knew he would get a game just by turning up and thank god we no longer put up with that crap.
I rest my case. Goodbye to Old Carlton ( ala Fev , Stevens) and Welcome to the new Carlton.

it's just that this isn't the time or the thread for it.

To Stevo, firstly thanks very much for all your efforts during a rough period for the CFC. Being the only A grade midfielder in a bottom team is a thankless task.

There is a time and a place for everything and ratten7's comments where out of line, however let's not pull a Michael Jackson tribute here, and completely ignore the fact that Stevo didn't present himself in a professional manner at times and along with Whitnall, Scotland and Fevola really instituted a drinking culture at our club.

The reason he didn't get the captaincy was because we got this player...whats his name.....um....oh thats right CHRIS JUDD.
