Nick Vlastuin has already gone past Dyson Heppell

Haha you can throw in Watts' stats too and they will prove my point further. Watch some footy for once and stop being a sheep as well as a chicken.

Watts has high contested possession numbers, despite never winning a genuine contest. Receiving a handball from a player in a contested situation counts as a contested possession. I watch plenty of football, Heppell relies on the likes of Watson to win the ball for him, and refuses to go when it's his turn, he did it multiple times last year, and he's done it this year too.

Heppell didn't attack that contest with Staker three weeks ago with anywhere near the required intensity, which resulted in him needing to give away the tactical free kick.

Heppell has never attacked a contest in his life. Cotchin last night showed time and again why he is universally admired by taking hits and attacking the footy. Martin Ditto. Lids, conca, Ellis and Vlastuin all do the same.

Heppell is a houli clone with worse disposal skills

Actuallys thats a hand ball receive, but keep making shit up. I saw Heppell play with plenty of intensity against your mob and went in pretty hard against Sydney in tough conditions. Not to mention he went back with the flight a couple times this season in a courageous manner, but that doesnt suit the BS about him being soft so it gets "overlooked" or dismissed.

Yeah... no.

Not surprising that you don't know what constitutes a contested possession; as a Richmond supporter, you don't get to see too many of them. Richmond bottom 4 for contested possessions (below Poort lolz) and dead last for tackles (below GWS lolz), and you've won a whopping 1 more clearance than the star studded Giants. Your team is comparable to Melbourne in terms of softness at the moment.

Good on you mate, nice little pep talk to get the Tiges back up and running.

My memory of the article I read it was hazy, but after finding it, despite my error remembering what it said, it backs up Heppell's softness:

But the most common myth, perpetuated further by the media, revolves around contested possessions. The general understanding is that a contested possession is given to a player who is “in and under” and “getting the hard ball”. But when you realise that (as per the Official AFL statistics) contested possessions consist of Hard Ball Gets, Contested Marks, Free Kicks, AND Loose Ball Gets, that theory is immediately dispelled. Dane Swan was credited with 19 contested possessions against Melbourne in Rounds 12 - nine of those were actually loose ball gets. Although it was still a solid contribution to his team, it was due more to Swan’s knack of finding the football, rather than his ability to extract it from underneath the packs.

If you surveyed a dozen members of the media it would be surprising if more than half of them were aware of that definition. Perhaps it is just the wording that has led most people astray. A contested possession is really a “disputed” possession, won when the ball is well and truly up for grabs. Simply picking up the ball as it is rolling towards the boundary line can result in a contested possession.

As for Heppell going back with the flight, it gets dismissed because there are more examples of him not going back with the flight (Lindsay Thomas says hi). Heppell doesn't win hard ball, only an Essendon supporter would be so delusional as to argue otherwise.

Thanks for proving my point about the perception of him.

So on the premise of this thread do you believe that Nick Vlaustin is currently a better player than Heppell?

Personally, I don't, but I see him going past him sooner rather than later.

It's not that I think Heppell is shit either, he's just very soft, and whilst not a crippling trait for a footballer to have, it also means they don't belong in the top bracket. Hence why I rate the likes of Watson (no shit) and Zaharakis as far superior players at Essendon.

I have seen enough and will call it now.

According to supercoach both Vlastuin and Heppell are HBF/Midfielders. This is where the similarities end. Vlastuin represents everything that is good about football. Hard, tough and skillfull meanwhile the golden boy from Windy Hill Tullamarine has plateued from his seagulling season 1.

Gutless Squibb up and about I see.

Didn't notice you much last week after we humiliated you....again.
Richmond lost that game more than Essendon won it.

It was painful to watch, our worst game of the year.
Good to see the Tigers bounce back.

Can the Bombers can do the same?
Friday night is looming as a massive game.
