Imagine if everyone who ever disagreed with somebody because of their opinion sued everyone.

Winmar may be pursuing Newman's act for publically defaming him, through a media outlet/internet/publication, with comments that have damaged his reputation. Whether or not he'll go all the way to court is another thing, however bonehead Newman is a few cans short of a six pack. To argue Winmar wasnt responding to racial taunts at the time isnt supported by any half baked ideas of Newman that it was a publicity stunt. I'd been to plenty of games where Les Bamblett was vilified by opposition supporters during the mid 80's and this wasnt stuff made up at the time to suit a narrative 30 years later.

No, you'd probably say "that guy publicly stated that I'd lied about something for 30 years for my own personal gain, which is pretty clearly a smear on my character."

fair enough, but imo Sam didnt argue that it was a publicity stunt, if anything he just accused others of hijacking it,
