Nine v Seven coverage of AFL

I think the time away from Bruce has simply revealed how grating he is.

Aside from Cometti, Ox is the only one I would keep- surround him with competent callers and he seems competetive enough to at least try and keep up. A'la Dermie whose pseudo analysis was of roughly the same quality, but at least the smirk in his voice added a degree of charm. Derm's on air chemistry with Cometti was genuine and one of the better aspects of their Sunday coverage.

Did you see him during the finals series? Leigh Matthews made him look shocking.

I have no problem with 7's coverage apart from Tim Watson.

Why does he feel the need to talk at EVERY single opportunity. To the point where he'll often cut Bruce or Dennis off in mid sentence.

It's just white noise! If you actually push through the migraine to listen to what he's actually saying, you realize IT IS actually white noise.

He's now officailly overtaken SOS as the worst 'special(!)' comments presenter. At least SOS was amusing.

Anyone who thinks Eddie did a better job than bruce has lost their marbles. The nine team with idiots like Brereton and Lyon were a laughing stock, nines footy telecasts were comedy shows. Who can say the most limericks in a game of football. Leave that crap to the idiots on thursday night with Sam newman.
Dennis this year went back to calling the game and was much better, Bruce is a super commentater but I agree on the rest that they should go. Why not get Clinton grybas he does it ok. In fact i believe thats who seven are looking to get to replace Bruce when he goes to the Olympics.

AFL on nine was a comedy show. Footy is back where it belongs with professional callers.

because of eddie and collingwood there are a lot of people with an irrational view of 9 vs 7

the reality is 9 was streets, lanes and alleyways ahead, in fact, an entire city, a first world city comapred to a third world city, a mile, a long way.

I would say that's an exaggeration but it's the opposite.
Sure Eddie was annoying (Taaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrraaaaaant anyone:eek:)but he is a first class caller and gelled perfectly with Dennis (the opposite with Bwuce)Dermie,Gary etc. The Nine telecasts especially FNF were all class and even if it were Richmond v Melbourne it would FEEL like an event. Seven have literally killed off FNF and any excitement Nine had built up.

Seven are a joke with Briz31 level quality of coverage and either past it or plain crap commentators. I mean how grating is Bwuce with his "cleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeever"

If they bought back Sandy and combined him with Dennis they might be heading in the right direction.

Nein miles ahead of Se7en.

Se7en's calling of the game and special comments were utterly appalling. Commetti the only positive for them, but the chemistry with the rest of the team was so bad it didn't make much difference.

Ox should never call a game of footy again. By far the worst special comments caller I have ever heard. His constipated bovine moaning during calls combined with a complete lack of tactical insight was unbearable.

When he did actually speak he used gross generalizations, many of which were plain wrong. On a number of occasions when asked for a "special comment" he said... "That is a good question, what do you think?".

The first time I saw it Commetti just stared back at him with a stunned look... eventually answering his own question. Wish I had it taped, would make a great YouTube clip.

Seven's problems go far beyond their commentators. It's not that its extremely poor but its just plain and boring. I know 9's first season wasn't brilliant, but it was streets ahead of what 7 is now and they had 45 years to get it right. I remember when 9 started off, I thought it was a little over-the-top, but now having seen the other side, it's apparent 7 are stuck in an 80s/90s time warp in terms of the quality of their coverage. And beyond their two games a week, you would hardly know they had the footy rights, given their lack of footy-related shows etc.

If there wasn't such an anti Eddie/Collingwood bias here, 99% of footy fans would agree 9 was better. If anything, the coverage dropped a little when Eddie left for the last season. Bring on 2012.

Spot on.The lack of chemistry between Cometti & McAveney was a huge drawback and IMO probably led to Dennis having to try too hard.

I know a lot didn't like Dermie, but I thought he offered something a bit left field and made observations that Lyon and, this year, Watson simply weren't up to.

I actually thought towards the end of year, when in the commentary box, that Schwarz improved and that he was the only one to have some genuine rapport with DC.

The problem of having Clinton Grybas call footy for 7 while Bruce McAvaney, Dennis Cometti and Sandy Roberts are away for Seven's coverage of the 2008 Beijing Olympics is that Grybas is also part of 3AW's coverage of the Olympics as well, along with possibly Peter Donegan. Which means that Seven would have no other choice but to ask some radio callers like Drew Morphett and Brian Taylor (even though Taylor's a Nine employee) to call some AFL games for Seven during the Olympic period.

After a poor start, Seven's coverage improved immensely by the end of the year. Seven's coverage was always unfavourably compared to Nine's and they can only get better and better.

One piece of good news is that Seven will be showing a lot more live footy on Friday and Sunday next year according to the 2008 season TV guide in yesterday's Sunday Herald-Sun.

It's great having the true home of televised football, Channel Seven, back as the primary broadcaster.

I never saw the apparent problems of the broadcast..probably because I was more worried about what was happening in the actual games - not what was going on with the cameras or the commentary box.

Because that was what Seven was always about. The game was important than the egos covering it.

In the ACT, channel 9 by far. At least they telecast all games late so Fox could have it on main event.

Ch7 has been delaying games for only an hour, therefore Fox cannot show them. It is bloody annoying to have games late, for no apparent reason. Especially when games have been broadcast live against the gate in Melbourne, i.e. Geelong v Pies Prelim was telecast 1 hour late, why??

Secondly, how much of a tosser is the Ox. How many times can you make a 'Derrr' noise like a ******* before every comment. He can't spit out his meaningless comments most of the time without getting it totally wrong.

I do like Commentti though, his little quip and witty comments are pearlers.

Looks like this dream is over. Very sad.

Seven are an absolute disgrace, looks like they spent so much money on the rights they didn'y have enough left to spend on production quality and staff. I cannot see it getting any better this year, with a lot of their resources going towards the Olympics.

Say what you will about Nine, they made Friday night Footy into a marquee event, and at least broadcast live footy on a Sunday.
