Russell Gibbs on ABC Sports Talk this morning:

We don’t have a lot of good players under 21 but there’s a group of players in that 21 to 25 bracket that we’re still yet to see the best of. We haven’t seen the best of Oscar Allen, Willie Rioli, Liam Ryan, Tom Barrass, Liam Duggan

checks notes

Allen - turned 23 in March
Rioli - turns 27 in June
Ryan - turns 26 in October
Barrass - turns 27 in October
Duggan - turns 26 in December

One out of five ain’t bad I suppose…

Fair dinkum no wonder we’re a basketcase when even the Chairman is in denial about the age profile of our list.

Edit - then he goes on to say “I’d love to see what CAMERON Chesser has to offer…”!!!

Fock, Simmo may well be the glue holding WCE together.

Seems we took a wrong turn a little while ago and haven’t worked out the new road map. Got a shed load of work to do.

Oooof

4. It seems even the club’s fans cannot avoid the horrors of the 2022 season with the lowest attendance for an Eagles game since moving to Optus Stadium in 2018. Only 27,448 fans made it to the game and while some of those vacant seats were a choice to stay home, others were the result of WA’s COVID-19 spike and a train disruption about an hour before the game. An incident on the Armadale line saw trains stopped and many fans, frustrated at the slow transfer by bus, opted to return home. Many persisted and could not get there until close to quarter-time.

Stocksy for once says "Come at me campaigners" and addresses the elephant in the room.

Did anyone really miss the game because of the train, or were they only delayed? I haven't spoken to anyone that missed the game because of it, not saying that it didn't happen, but it is convenient for the club to have that as an excuse for the poor crowd.

From what i've been told, people coming down from North on the Joondalup line (which is normally how i get to/from every game) got told to get off the train as there was a power outage, and would need to find their own way to Floptus in a Taxi/uber. Not sure if that was cover for what happened on the track, or if it was related to it at all, but still...

VERY very very harsh on those fans. Is's normally always chock a block full of fans (oldies) as well.

I'd probably have just said stuff it if it and gone home if it was me. Taxi to Optus from Whitfords traino would be another $60 on top of the already expensive evening of going to the footy. And that's to watch me team get pantsed by the undefeated ladder leaders no less.

Can confirm that Transperth was going with “power outage” when they made an announcement over the PA whilst we were sitting on an idle train at City West. Checked their Twitter feed and it said Perth Station was closed due to an “incident”.

Would have walked back to the car and watched it at home under normal circumstances but I had my son with me to watch his very first game and he was too excited to not go.

Ended up walking up to Murray Street to get the Red CAT to Matagarup Bridge. Got in there at the 4 minute mark of the second quarter.

I reckon quite a few punters would have gone “bugger this” and headed home.

Probably still would have been lucky to crack 30k based on the team’s recent form though.

What a trooper ^ I'd be absolutely fuming.

One of my favourite things is the build up to a game. I'd be there 3 hours early each week if i could. Rocking up to a game that's already started, let alone a whole quarter missed would send me wild. Good to see you did the righty.

Still... you missed probably the worst part of the game at least, first 5 mins were good then a Witherden turnover wrecked everything

Juicy! More details please. Was her ranting at the players? At the coaches?
So Crazy Vozzo took time away from the club to transition?

So the "incident" with the trains was that a person was on the roof and threatening to jump onto the transformer at the station. The power was cut to stop a certain death. Police managed to talk him down.

The station was heaving - there were a number of people who did turn around and go home. We managed to get the yellow Cat and were there just before end of Q1. That said, we walked westward to get the bus just outside Yagin square and when we went past the train station, it looked crazy busy. This was all about 2.25.

What worries me is that the train incident will keep Chairman Russ and Big Trev thinking that the train incident was the reason for the small crowd. Next will be the excuse that the Doggies do not have a big following in WA so the crowd was small and then there is the bye. I think the statement that we will continue the outdated boring and batsh1t chip and zone out of defence will keep people away. The game set of the 18th July against the Cats will be the Retirement Village Cup as we back in the champions. Hell, even Yeo and Shuey might be ready then. Hurn and JK nicely rested and ready to set the standards on the field.

A little like blaming covid for a crap start to 2022 but we all now realise (2 months later) that the list is crap.

Only the true nuffies pushed forward and watched the game. I walked for about 20 minutes to get out of the congestion and then got an Uber the rest of the way. Couldn’t blame anybody for turning around and not pressing on.

Crowd would have been 30k at best even with an uninterrupted train service, surely.

I was thinking the Eagles organized it to provide an excuse for such a low crowd :p

REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE-STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL

I am Dr. Trevor Nisbett, the cousin of Nigerian Astronaut, Air Force Major Ryan Burrows. He was the first African in space when he made a secret flight to the Salyut 6 space station in 1979. He was on a later Soviet spaceflight, Soyuz T-16Z to the secret Soviet military space station Salyut 8T in 1989. He was stranded there in 1990 when the Soviet Union was dissolved. His other Soviet crew members returned to earth on the Soyuz T-16Z, but his place was taken up by return cargo. There have been occasional Progrez supply flights to keep him going since that time. He is in good humor, but wants to come home.

In the 14-years since he has been on the station, he has accumulated flight pay and interest amounting to almost $ 15,000,000 American Dollars. This is held in a trust at the Lagos National Savings and Trust Association. If we can obtain access to this money, we can place a down payment with the Russian Space Authorities for a Soyuz return flight to bring him back to Earth. I am told this will cost $ 3,000,000 American Dollars. In order to access the his trust fund we need your assistance.

Consequently, my colleagues and I are willing to transfer the total amount to your account or subsequent disbursement, since we as civil servants are prohibited by the Code of Conduct Bureau (Civil Service Laws) from opening and/ or operating foreign accounts in our names.

Needless to say, the trust reposed on you at this juncture is enormous. In return, we have agreed to offer you 20 percent of the transferred sum, while 10 percent shall be set aside for incidental expenses (internal and external) between the parties in the course of the transaction. You will be mandated to remit the balance 70 percent to other accounts in due course.

Thank you

Trevor Nisbett
