Todd Murphy is a strange one! 21 wickets in the last season and a half of shield cricket, doesn't turn the ball and doesn't take wickets. He's really shown nothing to suggest he'd be a good state cricketer.

I guess we almost have to overlook pure stats for domestic spinners at the moment given the much more seam friendly direction our pitches have gone. Not to mention that during the hottest, driest part of the year they are playing BBL

Good points which make Rocchicioli's 47 wicket season last year stand out even more. Baffling.

It was an amazing series by Jono. Ferociously quick with pace & swing as well.
Bowling like that as a left hanger just intimidated the English to where it looked like some just wanted to get out.
The ironic thing is that in previous series they had smashed him all over the park.
In that series he was unstoppable and yet in previous series he has admitted he was intimidated by the barmy army and put off his game.
He must of had a real change of mind and wanted proper revenge.
He had shown glimpses of it before in the odd test matches but not over a whole test series like this one. One of the great bowling series of all time. He was also no mug with the bat when he put his mind to it but probably underachieved with ball & bat over his whole career from what he was capable off. Obviously a player who played on confidence.
Spot on roo blitz, was unplayable, pace was explosive and reminded me on a par with the legendary Jeff Thompson, most batters didn't want to face him.

If it's Murphy v Rocchiccioli as the second right hand offie I can only assume they've gone with the bloke who has actually done it in the subcontinent before

Also Rocchiccioli hasn't taken a FC 5 wicket haul - not sure how many batters you'd take on tour who had never made a ton

He took 30+ more wickets than him last season. 7 in the final, more than half the wickets Murphy took in eight matches, in one game.
Given that their overall first class records are very similar, do you think there's any residual benefit to be had in Murphy having actually bowled in test cricket on the subcontinent before? That they may have invested in him? Do you think they should start from scratch with Rocchiccioli simply because he took more wickets last season?

Yeah, he spins the ball and has the potential to take multiple wickets. Todd's shown absolutely nothing. Roland was winning games for W.A last season, Todd's never done that. He won't play, barring injury to Lyon but it still makes no sense.

Todd has taken a 7 fa in Test cricket

which batter are you picking for australia that hasn't made a hundred?
When was the last time a spinner was picked off the back of a 13 wicket shield season? How's the Vic bias amongst you mob! He's no good, I'm assuming you don't watch much or any shield? He doesn't turn the ball, doesn't have any variations and outside of one test hasn't done anything of note, ever. He should be batting behind Hazelwood if picked, he's an absolute spud with the bat.

Except Murphy has the same number of wickets at a much better average this season, has proven himself capable on the sub-continent before, and is 3 or 4 years younger than your WA boy. He has over the course of his career taken plenty of wickets.

The WA bias coming from you pretty clear. I watch and follow plenty of Shield cricket. Murphy in better form this season.

Averages less than 3 wickets a game. I'd rather they took swepson. Not much point arguing with you if you can't accept that one young spinner took 30+ more wickets last season and actually spins a ball. Time will tell, I'm really hoping he's not needed. Would be embarrassing rolling out a bloke that can't take domestic wickets.

Five matches for fourteen wickets. It's a terrible record for both so far this season but for todd it's consistent, it's average for what he's produced across his career. I'd be surprised if he plays another test after those numbers. Over the last two seasons he's taken 27 wickets from 13 matches, that's pathetic.

They both average 1.7 wickets per innings in FC cricket. That's even with your guy's strong season last year. You just keep spouting shit. Nothing new for you though.

I know this is intended as a rhetorical question but Nathan Lyon made his test debut having taken 14 F-C wickets at 45.5 and he went OK.
