there is no way bumrahs arm isn't helping him gain momentum in his bowling. Absolutely pathetic batting though. Also what sort of leader is khawaja making mcsweeny face the first ball each innings. The guy has only ever opened once prior to this match ffs

I'm betting the Australian team are feeling pretty shit house at the moment. Deservedly so. Hard to get out of this match with any positives. There's probably many factors that have contributed to the form shown by the team (not for a second am I disregarding the brilliant performances of the Indian bowlers and the batting in the second innings).

The ACB have to face up to the facts though. The schedule of matches, the prioritising of T20, lack of development opportunities and the general attitude towards selection have been significant contributors. There probably isn't a batter in the side who's recent form would have predicted a half decent innings but worse still, who's putting pressure on any of them for a spot?

It's just one game. Ask India how they felt losing 3-0 at home to NZ. Things can turn around quickly.

Most of our batsmen are out of form. The bowlers had a rough day today too.

Many of the top order haven't made runs in ages. India played their best these last 2 days. They're not going to be doing that constantly for the next 4 tests. At least it will be a better series in prospect than it looked at the outset.

We have no choice as Australians to support Australia. It doesn't hurt as much when we lose. In fact hardly at all. For me anyway.

I cope far less when the Renegades get smashed. Same if course for the North men's team.

The second test will be interesting. At selection, if nothing else.

Our batting is a real worry. The cupboard is pretty bare as well.

We have produced only 3 elite batsman (Clarke Smith Warner) in the last 20 years and Clarke could be argued is more at the back end of that 90’s era. Compare this to any other era. It’s shocking.

Pucovski we were unlucky with, but who else? Head is a good player, but will he ever average high 40’s/50?

We have prioritised fitness and power hitting etc over actually teaching guys how to bat. This ridiculous phenomenon of guys batting on or triggering to off stump or 4th stump with their front leg is utterly flawed.

This is a damning indictment on the states and the Centre of Excellence.

I would have picked Whiteman over McSweeney. This selection has to be one of the most ridiculous ever. The poor kid isn’t an opener and we expose him to Bumrah?!

Marnus isn’t a test 3 against quality (or any) bowling currently, Smith is nearly done as is Usman.

That leaves Head (who I mentioned) , Marsh and I guess Green. Marsh is 33 and I think we have seen his ceiling. Green is a great all round prospect, but I can’t see him being Kallis. Probably more Watto.

This sort of test performances could become more the norm than exception once a lot of these guys retire over the next 12 - 36 months.

This is now NMFC v Hawthorn in Round 24 this year.

One team is up and about, choc full of confidence and having the times of their lives.
The other is hopeless, knows they're going to lose, they don't really give a shit at this stage, no one's going to do much about it and the sooner it ends the better.

Top four batsemen scored 53 runs combined for the entire test. Honestly, don't really care if no one is knocking the door down in the shield, that's insta-drop level. That's the opportunity is provided to someone else levels. They may not do much better, but they sure as shit cant do much worse. Hell, they may actually grab the opportunity, who knows, but I do know that now is the time.

Only two players have averaged over 50 in domestic cricket in the period since 2022, but the guy who isn’t Usman is only seen as an all rounder back up…..

No play as yet on day four of the Perth test. Australia was struggling yesterday and I don't know what the selectors can possibly do to turn it around with NSW themselves on the back foot...

Obviously, the full account of these games is on cricinfo.
lobby for a third innings and we would still lose

good recovery by VIC there though

Relying on your fast bowling attack to get the job done is not a viable strategy.

Need to score just as well. It's been an issue for years not just this test series.

Don't get me wrong, the batting was shit house and these blokes need to be under pressure.

But our bowling attack are very, very momentum based. We're whatever the bowling version of a flat track bully is.

We rolled India for less than 200, and were still well and truly in the match before we let them put on a 170+ run opening stand.
