I love smiffy too and how good has Marshy been. The maligned man, was the most hated Aussie cricketer. Just *in love the way he’s gone about it
We love punter because he’s a kanga.. the goat
Hey, some of us still have the trauma/PTSD of S Marsh.... Making me trust in a Marsh is a long and difficult road :p

So long as Brayshaw, Flemming, Langer, Hayden and a few of the others get the chop then I think it might work. How do we go about making it happen? Does anyone have David Hill's number? He might like the idea.
I don’t know, channel 7 seems to think test match fans can be tempted to watch home and away, so who knows what goes on in their meetings.

I wonder if we were better off with commentary teams of two. Stopped the jumping in just to be part of the conversation.
CH 9 had three back in the day, its just you had Benaud (who I don't think will ever be replaced), Grieg (for the Opposition POV & smartarsery) and Lawry (for the blatant barracking and silly comments)
Just all three knew when to shut their mouths and let the play dictate... the quality of the modern ones makes you wonder if they never passed on that lesson

He knows he’s maligned and hated. He’s the Will Phillips type whipping boy. He embraces it and he is doing a ripping job in the middle order
TBF though, white ball I'm a fan... not sure WiPhi has a similar mold but I still think he will come good

Yep, they usually worked in pairs with the odd third commentator for ‘special comments’.
They also had better conversations about the actual match and less about themselves.
May have helped they had to share a mic.
Most of these blokes are just looking for sound bites like it’s footy.

Will anybody be surprised if Smith retires with Warner?
Think Smith will see out this season, He will be >35 by next year against India? Would be fitting to end it there...

Not sure Starc will survive past there, Lyon too (despite my wanting him to stay on)..

Khawaja I dunno... In my mind he calls it after Syd test, Aust wont want two openers retiring though

I'd be amazed. Warner has a few years cashing it at whatever T20 franchises will take him. He's retiring from Test cricket so he can rake in some easy money. Can't blame him.

Smith is younger, hasn't got that game and comes across like a bloke who has a shallow variety of interests to fall back on. He'll get to "Why don't you retire?" instead of "Why did you retire?"

It was only in the later years they went with three. And the later years of Channel 9 commentary - after Richie & Bill retired and Tony died - was worse than what Channel 7 do now.

Geoff Lemon's take on it in 2015 was brilliantly written.

Khawaja may well retire. He has an abundance of protesting to do. Will become some kind of figurehead at protests. I can see it

Home series against Pakistan, among the highest scorers for the series as an established member of the side, writes well as an ending...

Him taking a (somewhat) middle stand on some things isn't a bad thing... the real payoff will be him being a role model to the young indian/pakistani/south asian (general region) kids he is a role model for... we will see that pay off well in a few years

The career resurgence of Mitch Marsh is something I could have never have predicted when he get dropped from test cricket last time he was mentally cooked and his technique was all over the shop. Seriously impressive that he has come back and been playing some amazing cricket.

Didn't he have the record for the worst batting average for a Number 6 in the history of the game? Or at least by an Australian. A bit's being made about how unpopular he was with the public but, fair enough. His record was terrible and he just kept getting picked.

So for him to go from that, to getting back into the Test team and doing what he's done in all formats in the last six-months is extraordinary.

I'm thinking similar. They haven't really prepared the next generation though which might mean a few stay on beyond their use by date.
