North Melbourne have parted ways with coach David Noble after less than two seasons in the job, a club source confirmed.

His departure comes after the club commissioned experienced football administrator Geoff Walsh to undertake an external review of the football department.

The review is not yet complete, and the decision was not based on a recommendation from Walsh, who was acting as a conduit to the board as he gathered information.

However, a source said the feedback provided during the review process made it clear it was best for the club to act immediately, with several players understood to be considering their futures at the Kangaroos if changes weren’t made.

Leigh Adams will be interim coach for the rest of the season.

North have just one win this season and are on the bottom of the ladder despite a more competitive performance against Collingwood at the weekend.

Following that seven-point loss, Noble said he had faith in the players and in his own ability to succeed, but the result did not buy him more time.

North have won just five of the 38 games Noble has coached and lost their past 14 matches.

The Kangaroos set some unwanted records this season including the most consecutive losses by 47 points in VFL/AFL history.

The club’s No.1 selection, Jason Horne-Francis, had put off contract talks and Noble chose to apologise to the playing group for the way he spoke to them after their loss to the Brisbane Lions in round three.

Respected list manager Glenn Luff departed, along with two other recruiters, on the same day in May.

Club stalwart Todd Goldstein had refused to guarantee his future, former players were concerned the club’s identity was under threat and the club was continually linked to a move to Tasmania.

Noble was appointed after the departure of Rhyce Shaw, who was in the job for just one season following Brad Scott’s exit after 10 years. He was chosen after he detoured into a career in football administration following stints as an under-age and assistant coach.

I wonder who these players are and I would hope some of them pull their fingers out before their career passes them by

Choking on his pina colada.
Outsider opinion obviously but the axe needs to keep swinging and this needs to be the next head .. likely good dollars paying Roosy to live on an island offshore location with little to no accountability for the problems at the club. What another indictment this arrangement still exists. NEXT !!!

So just last week Noble approached Cameron to join us as a consultant. Which is interesting in itself.
The poor bugger must have been struggling.
Mate, it was probably to get some personal advice for when the inevitable happened.

Ok, so the media and the fans got what they wanted and the coach fell on his sword.
16 games this year
1 win
2 ok losses
11 forty point+ losses
2 rogerings

Something had to give with a form line like that. There were games where we had patches of maybe 10 minutes where we looked ok and the rest of the time looked like we had no idea what we were doing. It was always going to come to a head.

So where to now? Hopefully Walsh doesn’t wipe his hands clean, tell Sonya his work is done, and head off back to Collingwood. There are many more with responsibility for where we find ourselves.
HE wasn't at Collingwood when we got him in. My main critique of what we have going on is that it doesn't seem extensive enough.
I have no faith or confidence in anyone in the current admin or footy departments. And here we are going into yet another off season, trying to rebuild, yet with no senior coach (and in all likelihood a set of assistants who are also packing their bags), no recruiting department, half the list in limbo, and a good man in Patch being thrown to the wolves. Most likely a heap of careers end in 6 weeks time, and the rebuild starts again.
We have around 10 weeks to find a coach. there is more than enough time to do that. The timing of it is significantly better than the timing of Shaw walking away. THe rebuild cannot start again. We are not devoid of everything. there is still some way to go but we are not about to move back to square one.
So, we look for a new coach…..

A shiny, untried one with heaps of kudos through being an assistant in a successful team - just like Rhyce was when he stepped in. If it doesn’t work, nothing lost nothing gained.

Or, someone that has been around for a decade or two. Rebuild with experience heads, strong leadership and patience because rebuilds take time and the club is fully supportive - pretty much like Noble was meant to be with old mate Roosy riding shot gun to help with game day experience.

Shaw had to operate in circumstances that stretched a lot of coaches. We clearly did not provide adequate support and it created a mess.

I would hope an outcome of the review is to stop paying Roos company any money whatsoever. Seems like a consultancy sales tactic, sell with your A team, service with your B/C team.

Massive respect for still trying. the pressure must have been enormous.

It is a pity that we didn't get Noble as footy boss. He clearly is a quality operator.

Wow, I'm shocked to be sitting here. Who would have guessed this was the case?

possibly Sleevo, TT, even JHF.. I couldn't care how big a name or talent they are, that wreaks of passangers whom i question if we want at the club at all.. trade/delist... I know one thing for sure that LDU wasn't one of them and he actually plays for the jumper.

When Laidley got sacked in 2009 did Crocker coach the next game against Richmond for a draw?
Played the dogs in round 13 for Crocks first game.

the draw was round 16

Yes would have been horrid for him, and I'm hating the, "we'd have lost players had he continued". No good comes of saying that for anyone.

Regardless of whether he was right or wrong, you need to be professional and carry out orders. These things have a habit of working themselves out.

He wouldn't have come over as footy boss though, but I agree. No way he could stay at the club now.
Maybe that was the final straw.

Well I think it's more that he was still invested right up to the bitter end. But yes having a senior coach requiring a consultant isn't filling anyone with confidence.

now we know why the dinner was cancelled!

Ha nah the head chief was unavailable apparently. Was to be at a private residence. It will happen possibly next week.

But I hope this latest change brings about the return of all those quality North folk that have been cast asunder. Not that Noble has had anything to do with that.

I believe it's an ex North person who I know wasn't overly popular internally with a fair few. But she it seems is well liked around these parts.

Oh well.

Horrid but it also takes a bunch of humility to be able to put your hand up and ask for help in areas that are clearly deficient. Brad Scott had clear limitations as a game day coach. He was good at structure and having a plan but when they went **** up so did any chance of victory. I can't imagine him ever putting his hand up saying i need more expertise so lets get someone in.

I feel like Roos has done the club and Noble a bit dirty here.

No he wouldn't have, but if he's asking for help coaching then that's not going to be his go in a very unforgiving industry. He can't stay but I have little doubt he will roll to another club and be successful in a more footy ops style role. Hope he gets the CEO type gig he was looking for.
