Ha ha ha! This is the biggest load of crap I've read for ages! You're an idiot!

Inferiority Complex

It's common knowledge all over Australia that South Australian's have an inferiority complex when it comes to Victoria, much the same as New Zealanders when compared with Aussies.
No point even debating it though really, because the SA folk will obviously deny this and throw us the Barry Robran line as per. Sure you've had some good footballers over the years, no one is disputing that, but when your competition is as weak as it was, of course some will stand out. Some made the transition to the big league, but most chose to stay in the comfort of a very weak league. I can't recall too many Victorians salivating at the idea of being traded to the mighty SANFL competition, as opposed to all the try hard South Aussies clamoring to get into our clearly superior league. Argue all you like, but no-one (except South Aussies of course) in their right mind can tell me that SA football was stronger than Victorian football.
You may argue that being 2nd and 3rd last year somehow qualifies you as the power state of football, but I can't assure you this - If we had a whole state to pick 2 teams from, you guys would struggle to beat our little leaguers.

Cheers

awwwwwwww!!! lets all join the Eddie and Sam orchestra and play the Victorian violin.................. TWANG!!!!! oh ****.

PS

Faulkner and Burley footys are better than Sherrins too.

Lets have a look at last years Brownlow for Victorian dominance:

Black (WA)
Francou (SA)
Voss (QLD)
Crawford (NSW)
Yze (Vic)
McCleod (NT)
Headland (WA)
Johnstone (Vic)
Williams (Tas)
Cousins (WA)
Darcy (SA)
Buckley (NT)
Bell (WA)
Riccuito (SA)
Brown (Vic)
Ling (Vic)
James (SA)
Richardson (Vic)
Bode (SA)
Burns (SA)

Theres the top 20. Damn you can't even dominate your own sport anymore ;)

Since 93 only Harvey and Williams have held up Victorias dominance.

Port01,

You may or may not notice that I said "was stronger" in my post. I concede that since being allowed into our league you guys have improved markedly. :)

Cheers

Wouldn't have thought a Victorian would dare to bring up cricket. WA, Qld and NSW have way outperformed Victoria at cricket for the last 20 years, and SA and Tassie are reasonably comparable.

Even in the footy Vic teams have only won 5 of the last 10 premierships despite having 62.5% of the teams. The basketball teams keep folding, the soccer teams are underperforming ethnic enclaves and Grand Prix isn't really much of a sport IMO - if you're going to talk motor sports I much prefer Rally Australia.

Victorias inferiority complex to NSW or Melbournes to Sydney ?

No point even debating it though really, because the SA folk will obviously deny this and throw us the Barry Robran line as per.

Robran was one of Dozens and Dozens of players that were Brilliant amongst hundreds that were simply outstanding..and thousands that were serviceable/ mediocre/ average/ ordinary.

Sure you've had some good footballers over the years, no one is disputing that, but when your competition is as weak as it was, of course some will stand out.

The competition is certainly not as weak as it was, that is saying the current SANFL was of the same standard of the SANFL of the pre 1990 era.... a baseless , uniformed and ignorant perception.

Some made the transition to the big league, but most chose to stay in the comfort of a very weak league.

Were was this mythical "Big League " ? the AFL was years away from formation during the Halycon days of the SANFL. To say the SANFL was a very weak league shows an enormous amount of misconception and ignorance...the statement is foolish.

I can't recall too many Victorians salivating at the idea of being traded to the mighty SANFL competition, as opposed to all the try hard South Aussies clamoring to get into our clearly superior league.

name one SANFL players that "Clamored" to join a clearly superior league ? Not one, during the mid to late 80's many SANFL players were enticed to the VFL with huge financial incentives. Many VFL players played and coached in the SANFL from the late 1870's prior to the advent of the VFL from the VFA right thru until the 1980's...

Argue all you like, but no-one (except South Aussies of course) in their right mind can tell me that SA football was stronger than Victorian football.

The SANFL was not on average a stronger league over the duration of the 20 th century, However its top clubs were as powerful as those top VFL clubs for much of that period and the leagues were comparable, ..

There is no comparison between the current SANFL and the National league, or the current SANFL and pre 1990 SANFL or VFL or dare say pre 1980's VFA.

You may argue that being 2nd and 3rd last year somehow qualifies you as the power state of football, but I can't assure you this - If we had a whole state to pick 2 teams from, you guys would struggle to beat our little leaguers.

No, no need to argue, Two teams will never allow SA to be viewed as the Power state of Football, nor is the comparison ever likely to be made again.
The AFL is a national league based on its antecedant the VFL, it is no longer a Victorian league, but a national one, comparing it to anything else is pointless, as it does not represent what the VFL once did..Victorian Football, so any comparisons to pre 1990 VFL and current national league AFL is simply for the benefit of the former VFL clubs that are part of the National league.

Your comparison of Victorian Football Versus WA or SA football should be directed to the current VFL/SANFL/WAFL for any direct comparison of the state of Victorian Football compared to SA football.

an Email ? what does that mean ?

If you have a problem with historical perspective, put your facts forward. I am happy to debate rationally..the problem with many Victorians is they have very little factual information on Australian football outside of Victoria..When the world of Aussie rules is presented to them, they go into a spin and become abusive, patronizing and rudely personal, trying to belittle .

All I try and do is present Historical resaearch and fact in a way that will enlighten those that arent aware of Aussie Rules outside of the Victorian perspective they have been propogandered with all their lives...when it it put forward..all hell breaks loose.

the problem with many Victorians is they will never listen to the rantings of a SA history zealot such as yourself who contributes very little to any topic on the main board other than when the supposed inferior SA history comes out.
They go into a spin and become abusive, patronizing and rudely personal, trying to belittle because it is such an easy troll, guaranteed of a bite.
The comment on emails was in regard to you only appearing when this particular topic is brought out, it seems you get an automatic email saying those bagging SA need an urgent brainwashing, and Voila, there you are with post 700 on the same topic.
FWIW I'm of the opinion that the champions of SA were at least equally as good as those from Vic, I'm also of the opinion that the Vic league had greater depth.

If I'm after an opinion on a used car, you know the last person I'd ask for an opinion?

The guy selling it.

Oh Ok..didnt know about the Email bit..

Its OK for others to keep putting an incorrect perception of SANFL history, however its wrong for the misconceptions to be corrected.? Simply not brainwashing, just correction where it is due.

As for the Victorians not listening to SA History zealots.I beg to differ, I am constantly amazed at the amount of interest shown , not only by Victorians, but from around the world, the History of Australian Rules, from an Australian perspective of the game...Not simply a Victorian perspective.

and I contribute to a number of forums on a widely diverse range of subjects, and Australian Football as well, not simply SANFL history..Yes Australian Football History particularly SA is my passion, but I have an enormous interest in Historical Football accuracy from the other major Football states as well.

I dont think I go into a spin, I simply reply with Historical information that corrects the misinformation put forward..at this Point it is perceived as SPIN. Sorry if it affects you that way.

over 700 threads or posts on this subject? I havent kept count !,but Im darn sure the majority of my posts or threads are quite diverse. The problem is you only look for the things that give you the sh1ts, where PA1870 is concerned.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

The South Australian's gloat about how great their SANFL is compared to the other state leagues. For a start they get a massive salary cap difference compared to the WAFL and VFL, and secondly that has caused it to resemble a nursing home for AFL rejects. I don't mind that to tell you the truth. I'd prefer to see the hacks go to SA and leave our state football competition in the hands of young and exciting players.

In 1986 The big V took on a WA side with only 8 players seconded from the VFL and won.

The same year we had the play-off between the VFL Premiers (Hawthorn) and the WAFL premiers (Subiaco) and Hawthorn won narrowly by 12pts.

This discounts your theory that the "VFL" was far superior to the SANFL & WAFL competions at the time.

Correct me if im wrong cause my memory is a bit jittery but didnt the VFL gove the SANFL a flogging last year im not sure and i could be wrong butid like a South Australian historian to correct me on this oh and the score would be nice to thanks

regards with the utmost respect to all South aussies

That 86 Subiaco flag side was bloody awesome, plenty of soon to be Eagles and players like the Taylors, Phil Lamb, Greg Carpenter and Clinton Brown that were no mugs either, plus North Adelaide got to the Escort cup semis that year, a handy team with the Jarmans,Sanders,Bennett,Wildy,Arnold plus many others. No argument about the VFL always having the depth, that just weight of numbers at work, the SA and WA champs of that era were champs in their own comp, state games and when they crossed to the VFL, not just in the VFL and thats the football history everyone deserves to hear.

And to consider that they were probably the second best side that year. (Behind the mighty Sharks)

The 86 Sharks, Darren Bennett and Colin Waterson up the front, Budgy in the Pocket, Peake in the guts,Stephen Green,David Rankin , Paul Harding, agreed, a pretty good team. Subi must have bben on fire to do them by as much as they did.

This is stupid.
Why are you all fighting.??
AUSTRALIANS should ALL be pound to have such a successful sport all around the country. All the states have produced legends of the game.
How bout we just leave it at that!
