Surely Renshaw is in line to come back in soon. Good cricket from the Proteas though, after what they offered up last test. Get Smith cheaply here and they should be chasing under 150 in fourth innings.

I also don't understand the uproar on Rabada's 'send-off' to Warner. Nothing physical and simply just showing intensity imo.

Yeah this one should be over before lunchtime tomorrow at this rate.

Just when you think the series has had it all... Bancroft is the fall guy no doubt but geez, Aussies must be desperate if they are stooping to the depths of having to do what is alleged. Smith and Lehmann firmly in the firing line I would think also.

The team seems to have lost the collective plot on this tour.

On the whole, the Aussie cricket team cop a lot of undeserved shit. They deserve to get absolutely hammered for this one.

My interest in the test has completely dissolved.
South Africa are not completely innocent either. Faf was charged last year for the exact same thing, so I don't know why they're jumping up and down

I might not be a massive cricket fan, but I enjoy it enough to watch or attend every now & then. This saga has still made me feel embarrassed about the team, what an absolute **** up.

Smith has dragged half the team and coaching staff into it - why he stated that the ‘leadership group’ made a group decision at lunch he has taken out about 4-5 players, and the coach probably. He seriously lost his mind both on and off the field yesterday.

I like the fact he put his own hand up for it, but not the other half dozen.

It came out of Smith’s mouth but it would have been a collective statement from Lehmann, Smith, the players and the PR team.

Easiest option would have been to blame it all on Bancroft. No one would believe it but Bancroft would have copped all the punishment and the rest would have got away unscathed. Would’ve been unfair on Bancroft who I doubt was the lead instigator.

The plan is just to go into damage control so no one loses their job. Lehmann would lose his job if he had anything to do with it, so they say he wasn’t involved (even though he would have been), there is already calls for Smith to lose the captaincy so they say the whole leadership group was responsible so there is no one to replace Smith and he keeps his gig.

Ugly and embarrassing incident. Been a pretty embarrassing series for cricket, don’t think either side comes out of it very well (Australia certainly come out looking worse). Shame because their has been a lot of good cricket played but once again the cricket is taking the back seat

I’m just not sure if sharing the collective blame will save any of them.

Maybe this is Brad Hodge’s chance?

Likely the international cricket board wouldn't have found out about the team planned tampering, so the fact that Smith admitted the whole thing and self reported shocked me. Could have easily taken the fall himself along with the Bancroft. Yet it has turned from an isolated incident to a team wide scheme in the matter of one press conference. Not sure what he was thinking

Aus Sports Commission has demanded any party who was in the know be sacked.

Shit is going to hit the fan. Can see 5+ players needing to be flown over for the next text, Smith losing the captaincy, and some longish bans

It shouldn't be just for this test, hopefully both will get at least a years suspension from it, and hopefully Bancroft sues both of them as his career is virtually over because of what they directed him to do.
A year is well over precedence. He can't sue, he's a big boy, made his on decision.

For the rest of this game. Paine captaining.
What next?
Will be permanent, surely? Announced as thus test but public and cricket board pressure will see it longer

But the Australians are the good guys...

This team has been full of w***ers for years. Throw the book at them.

Yep. This. So much this.

Have hated the Australian cricket team for years.

This bunch of knobends getting caught today, along with our fantastic women's team winning the GF, have kept me relatively sane today.

Smith suspended for the 4th test and docked 100% of his match fee, Bancroft one penalty point less than Smith, so avoids suspension, but loses 75% of his match fee. No mention of the so called others in the leadership group who were apparently involved. They have denied it and are said to be pretty pissed off to be thrown under the bus

Won't be the end of it, Smith likely to face further action by the CA board once home, will be a tough call on our best batsman by miles

I imagine Smith and Warner will get CA suspensions at the very least, I'd be surprised if Bancroft didn't as well.

What a disastrous tour this has become. Started with such high hopes and it's gone to complete shit. Getting worse after every test too.

Lehmann's job is becoming untenable. There is no doubt in my mind that he would have been involved in the decision making with the ball tampering farce. I think a lot of the problems we are facing are because of this culture we've set up where we try and 'headbutt' the line and this win at all costs attitude. Unfortunately we seem to keep pushing the line further and further back.

He's done a good job over his tenure (our away form is still too poor to say it's a great tenure) but I think it's time for a fresh outlook and a new voice. It's seems that every tour we play now that the cricket gets over shadowed by non cricket related incidents

Third test all over. Australia rooted routed for 107.

Smith deserves to have his career ended for the long term and broad-based damage he has done to Australian cricket and the reputation of Australia as a sporting nation (not just cricket). Pretty sure CA will go soft on him though.

He has certainly shown himself to be too inept to be made captain ever again.

He has admitted to pre-meditated cheating. It happened under his watch even if others were part of that decision.

Same applies to Lehmann if he was involved.

The rest of the so-called leadership group should be flown home straight away if they admit or can be shown to have been part of the plan. They should all cop a 12-month suspension. Bancroft too (although I'd only give him 6 months). I feel a bit sorry for him but he wasn't strong enough to stand up to them and say "no, this is wrong" so he must cop his whack too.

You can be sure we will be taunted about this for at least the next 10 years. We need to lance the boil and start again with a new leadership group and a new code of ethics. I don't care if we sit at the bottom of the test, ODI and T20 rankings for the next 3 years. It'll be worth it.

I never want to see Smith playing for Australia again and I will struggle to support the national team if he does.

ICC has some difficult decisions on its hands too, since probably every test playing nation has done a bit of ball tampering at times.

Never as blatantly and stupidly as Australia though. In no way should CA be pointing the finger at any other country and say "they did it too!" That's schoolboy stuff and I hope we're mature enough and humble enough to abstain from it. Let ICC sort that out.

I agree that a punishment needs to be strong, but don't think ball tampering should be put at the same level as match fixing.
Dump him captain and suspend him for 6 tests. That's effectively 2 series.

I understand that the gravity of the situation that he had just put himself in would've been immense, but his inability to articulate a single coherent sentence as he fronted the media was far more shocking. It would appear that he is a very good example of why its not always a good idea to make your best player the team captain.
