Is it inevitable that at some stage Konstas has a rough trot, gets lambasted in the media, goes back to the shield for a year or two and come back a more boring player?
Hoping he's switched on enough to see it himself. Can still be exciting without being silly.

Konstas clear lack of experience hurt him and let the moment get to him with that shot, still the highest actual batters score though...

He hasn't played this way at all at Shield level by the way. Played pretty normal innings every time. Clearly there's a bit of a directive to be aggressive.

Wouldn't mind seeing more of Konstas defending though because it looks like he has a good technique in the rare glimpses we've seen of it so far. He clipped a couple of good run scoring shots square of the wicket on the onside and Usman came down to have a word (I would guess of encouragement) and then he played that risky shot. Just looks too keen to score the runs to the boundary off the good balls.

I heard Stuart Clark on the ABC coverage in the last test match say that he caught up with the NSW batting coach Greg Shipperd after the day's play where Konstas scored those two tons in the Shield competition and he said Shipperd (who was a very stodgy defensive batsman) described Konstas as another Ponting.

I was thinking overnight that it would be Starc who might end up slogging one to get us home. 91 more runs is a long way off if we lose two quick wickets. Got most of the failed run chases of lowish under 150 runs by Australia imprinted in my memory. I think the first one I remember is the time Kapil Dev skittled us at the MCG in the early 80's and it carried on to the next Ashes series in England with two more last innings batting collapse losses.

Without Bumrah, India are going to run out of bowling options pretty quick. Not surprising that the freshest bowlers are taking the wickets.
Scottie Boland only played 3 tests and has been our freshest bowler looks the best.

You look back at that Gabba test we lost to India - Our dimwitted selection policy went for the same attack but history shows our big 3 tire as the series goes on. While the Indians had nobodies and tore us to shreds without Bumrah that test match.

Ashes 2023 is another example our bowling got worse as the series wore on while Wood for England came in late and created havoc.

Yes, exactly, hence the criticism of playing Starc who showed signs of wear in the fourth test. Can't keep the same attack all through a given test series. Bumrah now has a hot spot in his back from over use that was obvious all series long.

Missed an opportunity to give Richardson a test here.

Again, Webster, Konstas and McSweeney proving its never as bad as it seems for Aus. The change in pitches the last decade is undersold. If you can average 45+ for a few years you are good enough for international level (Averages against Bumrah doesn't count since no one in the world can face him confidently on these pitches).

To follow on, its really just the openers spot I think we have a bit of an issue. More than enough good middle order options
