The emails from 2013 are corroboration.

I feel heart sorry for those involved now being put through the wringer again so publicly knowing that they will be fighting Clarkson and Fagans lawyers at every step. Must be so draining.
They show at the least that these weren’t long held recollections. They were documented at the time. Big difference and at the least it highlights that this is how one of the people involved felt and said that they felt.

If: Brad Scott is the best that Essendon can do.

Then: Its a cautionary tale for anybody looking to move Beveridge on.

Like Norf did under his watch. Essendon can look forward to bumping around the middle of the table for the next 9 years.

Im ok with that.

It pays to be well connected in a game where a select few get to fail upwards.

Couldn't disagree more - this is a masterstroke by Essendon.

I love Bevo by the way. Wouldn't swap him for anyone.

Immediate thoughts on Scott.

No experienced candidates available, so as soon as Scott threw up his hand said 'you'll do' to save face.

Record at North was average at best.

Indeed it is a masterstroke. They're getting an edge on where the game is headed before everybody else and into every teams player management IP.

This happened after he was gifted the entirely made up role of 'AFL competition evolution manager' inside of the AFL Football Operations Department.

When they pull off a miraculous trade in the next week or so. It wont be because players are going to have a come to Clarko super coach type epiphany. Or that The Dodo has done it again. It'll be because they had insider access to other teams Player IP.

Shows how dumb the league is then.

Happened with Hocking (straight to Geelong) now with Scott.

Maybe the AFL might put in place a clause in the next contact that states anyone in a senior executive role can't be employed at a club for at least 12 months after they leave.

Clarkson knocked them back.
Lyon knocked them back.
Cameron knocked them back.
Allegedly they contacted management of Beveridge and Hardwick.
Probably knocked on Jock McHale's headstone too - no answer.
Essendon had to do something, but probably realised Hird would be a bridge too far even for many of their own.
Scott wasn't first choice, probably not even on the original list of 20-odd.
But desperate times call for - anyone who is desperate to coach, even if it's Essendon.

How and why havent these player's managers been brought up in this?!?!?!

If how I read it is correct they did jack s**t to retaliate.
If player managers were aware, and turned a blind eye so as not to ruffle their comfy nest, then hope they get dragged as well, particularly as they are supposed to be the player's advocate.

Was Rutten even that bad? Got Essendon into the finals in 2021 against all expectations and was working with a young team the whole time. He deserved another year.

I'm sure Essendons thorough interviewing process went something like this...

Adam Dodo sitting in a room with Kevin Shady (names changed to avoid litigation :p )
Knock on the door...

"Come in"
"Hi I"m Bwad"
"Hi Chris how are you?"
"I'm not Chris, I'm Bwad"
"So Chris, thanks for coming in. We know this must be hard for you sneaking around like this when you should still be celebrating a flag"
"That's not me, that's my twin brother"
"So Chris, we want to make a big splash get the announcement out to Caromello and Slobbo and blanket the Herald Scum with the news and that you have defected from Joeltown before trade week starts. You'd be aware how important it is to us to win trade week right?"
"I think you've mistaken me for my brother"
"Excellent. Just wait til the media hears about this. Essington have secured premiership coach Chris Scott on a 10 year deal. That will stop them laughing about us not winning a final."
"But i'm Bwad"
"Bad is good, we need a tough edge to the Bummers, we are a Big 4 club and we've signed a coach that will prove it"
"But i haven't signed anything"
"We've got your signature on file on a 2011 Scanlens Premiership Footy Card, we found it in Paul Chapman's old locker"
"Welcome aboard Chris - we see this as a masterstroke, now let's go take some pictures - do you think you could do that thing you do in the coaches box where you throw your arms up and look bewildered?"
"How much is this gig paying again, i'll need to let Gil know"
"It's paid as a lifetime supply of Amart furniture, anything you want, its yours - oh and you get to have a rest on the cushioned floor in the hangar whenever you like. Oh but don't tell Gil, this is our little secret until Slobbo gets it in the paper.
"Thanks for coming in Chris, this is gonna blow their minds"

Yep and of course will be hailed today by the Bombers media devotees 😂 despite all but two years at North outside the 8 and a fair few in the bottom 4.

Blake Caracella come over the Maribyrnong.

I'm loving the Essendon fan boys in the media who keep lauding his win % being over 50%, It's literally 103 wins 102 losses if 1 of their close wins didn't go their way or he coached another 2 games it'd be under 50% and they'd be calling him a dud

I actually thought his record at north was very good. His teams on paper were extremely average but he was able to wring every drop out of a pretty ordinary older list.
What he wasn't able to do was re-generate, partially because he knew if they were to do that then the ar5e would fall completely out of the place.
Which it has.
If he had a good young, vibrant list I believe he would be very handy as a coach.

TBH I thought Scott did ok at Norf with a sh.t list.

A 50/50 record, 4 final series and 2 Prelims over 9 years was about par or even a slight overachieve.
Was their list that shit? Waite, Petrie Brown were all good Key Forwards, Tarrant and Thompson were good Key Defenders, Goldy was in his prime Higgins Dal Santo Cunnington Harvey Swallow in the guts. It wasn't a fantastic team hence they were never competitive in their prelims but it wasn't shit at all

Bombers putting all the assistants through the actual process and then throwing that out the door once Scott told them he was interested. Never change.
Yeah I agree with this. They made a massive hullaballoo about the correct process. But when it came to the crunch, all that went out the window and Scott was appointed.
Have to feel for blokes like Yze who did all the BS.
I would be happy to pick up Hird and Yze as assistants, stick it right up the campaigners.

Yze used to play at West Footscray surely we can "bring him home"

The Hun had a headline 'Brad's Scott What It Takes' - wonder if they realise the connection to 'whatever it takes' - that would be against party lines?

Let's face it, coaching North is a hell of a lot different from the Druggies.

The pressure to perform is already on just as he's walked into the joint. By Round 1 it'll be volcanic and if they miss finals again....

Especially when they already think their incredibly shite list is ready to "bounce back"
