There are some things about American sport that are way better like umpiring and commentating. What you want to avoid are all the commercial elements of American sport. The constant ads, the ads built into the telecast, the way they'll cut to a long break when there's like 2 mins left in the period. The way they'll turn 60 minutes of sport into a 3 hour ordeal. It's awful.

Umpiring? Maybe replays are better but the umpiring still sucks in a lot of American professional sport.

Look up “Umpire Auditor” to see how bad the choices of umpires for the World Series was - and how bad some of them are at their job.

I should have mentioned that comment was mostly about hockey. I don't watch a lot of baseball. I've spent more time watching docos and movies about baseball than actually watching the real thing.

As for being worried that we're becoming too "Americanised", the reality is we're in a much more globalised world than when we were kids. The internet is largely to blame for that, kids are just exposed to more things than whatever Australian media was around when we were young. As far as I'm concerned, that's a good thing. And it's not just one way traffic - I assure you, plenty of US kids are adopting various Australian sayings, practices and traditions courtesy of Bluey taking over the world

All I ever hear is how bad it is to be Americanised but never why it's bad?

Halloween is a great example of something that is a LOT of fun and something I wish I had the opportunity to do as a kid. I look forward to it with my kids now. This year was the first time I'd ever carved a Jack O Lantern. We haven't trick or treated in public at all, we don't like in a big built up area, we just set up a pretend one inside with lollies in each room. I did see a few local businesses on Facebook did something this year. But to be honest my kids just love dressing up and getting a few lollies and having fun with the skeleton/ghost/etc themes.

What's the harm in Halloween? It's not replacing anything. We're not losing any Australiana. My kids still play outside. We still have our other holiday seasons. We still have Anzac Day and Remembrance Day. My kids play footy and cricket. We fish in the river. They still go to school without fear of being shot. They're not losing anything Australian by participating in Halloween. Multiculturalism is a good thing. Christmas trees are German, giving Christmas gifts is Roman, Easter Eggs are from the middle east... Let the kids have fun.
