Buckley pushing the re-signing Hinkley now stuff on In The Couch. Said waiting until August would be just ego from Koch, that teams would be speaking to players/managers now about trades and would want clarity.
Ken will want a 3-4 year deal easily. He isnt going re sign for a 2 year deal.

It will be interesting if this has a destabilizing effect on the players and coach heading into September if he is still hasnt been given an extension.

I considered this over the weekend and wondered if it would turn out like the Malthouse/Buckley/Collingwood issue, slightly different as a scenario but possibly equally destabilising

It does feel like this could potentially get a bit too cute at Port Adelaide over this.

It's a tricky situation for them. Obviously they are flying atm, but there's always the risk of re-signing him too early. Whilst I don't see a collapse like in 2018 when they missed finals after being 11-4 (this Port side has much tougher mental edge evident by their close wins), GF is an absolute non-negotiable if they finish top 2. If they re-sign him and then choke another home PF... oh boy.

And if they go early now they'll be bowing down to public pressure

Just need a whisper of the Tigers speaking to Ken's management team and we're off to the races

First domino hopefully

And their prospective new coach talking to someone else and Kochie with nothing much to do now will be spinning his greasy wheels

Can’t believe mansell got 3 games for contesting the footy.

McAdam?

Good to see that tackle on lizard thrown out, that was not a dangerous tackle. The person being tackled hit their own head on the ground.

On the other side, I can’t believe anyone can argue that Sicily didn’t slam McC’s head into the ground at great force!! Dog tackle, 4 weeks.

Nah it’s worse than that, Mcadam chose to bump.
This bloke was running and got the the footy the same time as aish.

I can see a scenario where Sicily gets off though. Tackle was initially fair and there was was secondary contact from another player outside his control.

Should go, but won't be surprised if he is cleared.

Kens year has come at the worst possible time for the club. The squad as a whole at Port is terrible. There is no depth which means they are wholly reliant on the midfield stars and a handful of others. The lack of injuries to the midfield has seen them claw their way through games they had no right to win at times really as the rest of the side has been a patchwork quilt. Port have no choice but to sign Ken, but they will be in no mans land. The midfield will most likely land them in that zone of 2nd to 8th for the next few years. This is either good or bad. Good if you have assembled a really good squad full of depth that can push the best teams to a premiership. Or in Ports case, an all Australian quartet with enough to help them win most games but not enough depth to win the big games. The will also be reliant on finding gems in the teens as draft picks to improve their squad to the next level and player trades. They have also no draft picks this year to trade either.

Can they win the GF...no. Preliminary final for me.

Clearly you disagree.

Cross Ports best 22 into ours.

Our points for and against are almost equal. Ports midfield is competition best. Thats why they are where they are while their forward line is average joe city and their backline is doing enough to stop opposition sides. We have a clearly worse midfield in every which way yet we have a better defensive record and we tend to maximise our scoring from our inside 50s. There is no doubt Ports midfield has got them across the line in most games.

And yet somehow they're in second place, only percentage off top, and the only side this year to look better than them just had a loss.

They're as big a chance as anyone to win a flag this year. They feel like Crows circa 2017.

Its hard not to disagree.

They are bloody 11-2 and the highest scoring football team in the AFL. They have won 8 in a row.

Their forward line isn't full of average joes - Dixon is still a beast, Finlayson and Marshall are very good 2/3 key forwards.

Another massive advantage for them is that their 2 main midfielders are also goalscorers - Rozee and Butters have combined for 18 goals. Compare that to our two main midfielders - Laird and Dawson who have combined for 7.
