Damian Barrett has called for a Clarkson sanction.

He's read on it is Clarkson tried to make it go away with the apology but apparently that didn't cut it with the AFL. Clarkson has been given a please explain.
If what he said is considered a homophobic slur, which is debatable, he should get the same treatment as Tex.

I suppose the difference is saying what Tex did to an indigenous person is clearly a racist remark (ie racial slur directed at a black person).

Clarko using a phrase like that to someone not known to be gay isn’t really a homophobic slur in the same way, just an inappropriate comment (which has homophobic origins). If the players were known to be gay it’d be far worse and on par with Tex

You saying “known” as in publicly come out?
It seems like it’s not exactly a secret.

That's probably fair enough, though I'm not sure it should matter whether someone is known to be gay.

I imagine it's pretty hard to come out when people are still throwing around homophobic slurs.

Is ********er a homophobic slur? I think so, but it's probably not on the same level as Tex by any means.

Is the AFL going to out the first ever publicly gay AFL player on a crusade to sanction Clarkson for a targeted homophobic attack?

Probably not

Of course it's homophobic and arguably, more egregious offending. Tex didn't direct his comments at the person.

If the AFL set the precedent that heat of the moment is no excuse, or reason not to brand someone a full blown racist, which it did, its difficult to see what basis they could have for not throwing the book here.

No they're not.

They're not going to take the position that whether or not its ok to use slurs depends upon the identity of the recipient.
I feel like if he was openly gay, the afl would have taken a far harsher stance by now.
Don’t underestimate the AFL’s ability to mishandle something either.

Yup, I'm convinced the AFL will go a full absolute monster suspension on Webster given he is a middling player at a middling club. Nothing to lose and they can say they are 'getting tough" on head knocks/concussion etc...

8 weeks not out of the question.

Yep be interesting to see what happens when it's a big Vic club.

Who was that directed at ?

edit - read further on Howard I see

Makes sense with the speculation/rumours as to why he left Port
Maybe someone should tweet some head jouros asking if they are aware of these rumours and the context this places on the comments. See if any of them bite or uo their pressure levels on the afl

Nobody's going to run with 'there is added controversy to the comments because Howard is rumoured to be gay' or anything of the like (nor should they).

Do they treat it differently for "open" and "open secret"?
